It more just a code of honor that players abid by like no kicking eye gouging biting etc. If someone does something cheap the ref/league can suspend them, or fine them or what have you. pretty much just punching, jerseying, and face washes are all you really see in hockey fights.

And it's a sport that you must start at a young age to be relatively decent at when you hit your physical prime (i.e. late teens/mid-twenties - in other words, a sport that takes 20 years to master well enough to be considered for the top leagues, and even then most don't make it).

The only thing I'd add to bassochadic's items in the "code" is no hitting when your opponent falls.
