you covered 'one of my kind' by conor oberst a while back and ive had it on my ipod ever since and now I've heard this, youre truly talented in my opinion!
Great guitar playing but the vocals are too overwrought. The lyrics are nostalgic meloncholy and you're screaming it like a man on the edge of madness.
Just curious, did you use a tab for this? (do you use tabs for your other covers?) I only ask because I've recently started learning guitar and I really like this song. I've found a few tabs, but I'm just wondering what you do.
@royc8 Usually I get the lyrics with the chords above them to use as a reference. Actual tabs are too accurate for my liking - if you just have the general chord sequence it's easier to play it in a way that feels right to you.
Sometimes I think that your voice is so raw, and I forget to realize that that's a really good thing. I like when i can really hear emotion or meaning in your voice. I love listening to you, even though your style is a bit unorthodox. It's awesome though.
@catherineistoocool I agree with your comment. I made a comment earlier that he was not on pitch. If you sound out of pitch, you are out of pitch. You made a constructive suggestion as I did not because I did not know how to solve the pitch problem. My comment got voted down and he commented saying he disagreed with my assessment. If you listen to Jackson Brown, he is on pitch and does not sound like he is in pain as BlueSkies sounds. I hope BlueSkies takes your advice.
This literally changed the way I look at guitar haha. I've been trying to sing and play this but I'm not too adept at finger picking; how precise are you being with your right hand in terms of rhythm?
@megadeth773 I don't know how to convey that information in a better way than you watching and listening to it!
There is probably some ebb and flow, I'm not great at keeping timing constant. The stereotype says the guitarist always wants to go faster and the singer always wants to go slower. I'm a guitarist first!
I downloaded the mp3 and it started playing while I was listening to the video for the second time and I was like, whoa DOUBLE DAVE! It was kind of awesome.
I had never heard of this song before you covered this. now I can't stop listening to both your version and the original. It's such a beautiful song, thank you for introducing it to me:)
These Days is one of my favourite Tallest Man covers, I'm completely in love with the 'a takeaway show' recording of it in Greenwich Village. Have you had the chance to see him live yet? Also, great job with this recording - the rasp in your voice is just lovely.
@MusicFromBlueSkies im alehlove. Well my room doesnt really have anywhere comfy to sit apart from my bed, so if its messy its lumpy and un-comfy. So comfort is the main reason. UCD, though im 47% sure i dont have it, is the second.
@MusicFromBlueSkies well i have a swizzle chair in my room but i cant sit with my legs crossed, so i think what is the point. I do 80% of all tasks on my bed. I dont iron my clothes though if thats anything? unless there is a visible huge crease...
I really liked this. Maybe it's just me but your voice seems huskier, more Tallest man on earth like? So the inflience is sortof apparent I think.
I've been playing ages but I've never got a blister from fingerpicking, dunno why. My friend's a bassist, he's always got them and when he plays gigs they tend to fill with blood, not a pretty sight but his devotion's admireable.
@SeanieBlahBlah I get them if I've been using a plectrum for ages, skin on my thumb goes soft. Also playing too soon after a shower is asking for trouble!
I absolutely love the version Nico did, listen to it all the time. Didn't know Jackson Browne wrote it when he was sixteen though, that's incredibly impressive haha. Great cover man :)
@MusicFromBlueSkies agreed. I am about to become a music student in Brighton... The two poorest walks of life in one... Musician and Student. Lol. Are you a student at a Uni or something? Or do you work?
@ChuckDrinksMilk Oh I don't mean I sell the lyrics... I missed out the part where I record the songs... It actually goes; I write songs, record them, put them together in an album and then sell them to people.
@MusicFromBlueSkies wow, fantastic!! Is that all via youtube? Or do you have a real world presence if u know what i mean? Do you earn your whole income from Youtube and selling music?! If so i am very impressed and jealous.
@ChuckDrinksMilk pretty much all online, it's still less than I could l earn getting some minimum wage job, but at least I enjoy it! The good thing though is that old work can still be sold, so it gets easier as you release more albums... After the first EP I put out, getting a new fan might mean getting £2! Now I've just put out my fifth release, so if someone finds me and buys the back catalogue it's more like £25, but I've done nothing different, I just have more stuff available.
@MusicFromBlueSkies brilliant! Exactly, if you are earning enough here and there, what does it matter how much you have, as long as you are doing what you love. Good man. May i be as bold to ask for any advice to someone aspiring to be in your postition? Cheers :D
@ChuckDrinksMilk Sure, I think the hardest part is the first step (as always!) Making the decision to actually release something - I played music for ten years before writing my own songs, then a couple more years before releasing anything. If I'd thrown myself into it from the start I'd be so much further along by now. So I guess the advice is don't hesitate. Your first song doesn't have to be a masterpiece, just write something, put it out there, see what people think...
@Chuckdrinksmilk ... then learn from it, try to improve, write something better and release that. Once you get into that routine it's less daunting. I look back at some of my earlier stuff and think it's crap! I think everyone does, but it doesn't matter because without it I'd never have improved and wouldn't be writing what I am today - stuff that I think is good. (Of course I'll probably look back in 5 years and disagree!)
@MusicFromBlueSkies cheers man, Will do. I've got some songs on my channel already, I will up my game thought. I would love it if you would check out my channel. Cheers mate :D

You should lower the capo because it sounds like you have trouble getting the higher notes out, which makes them sound out of pitch.
Great song though, I enjoyed listening to it nonetheless =]
