I see a lot of comments about the fantasy of the gundam interventions, and frankly the idea of having one common enemy which unites us all only works if the entire human race was in danger. Take the example of Dr. Manhattan in watchmen when Ozymandias frames him for the mass murder of millions. His intentions was to unify the entire world by giving them a common foe. But that measure he was a success, but since the true culprit was never realized the world gained a "false" peace.

A world living under a false sense of peace gained from a lie, makes attaining it meaningless. It denies the human race a chance to truly learn and become something greater than what we currently are at this point and time. In the case of the Gundam the problem is the opposite, since Celestial Being holds the Ace in terms of state of the art weapons the only thing that they will promote is an escalation to out war.

Fear is what holds humanity back, we lie to ourselves and accept those lies because it comforts us but it also denies us so much more.

Fear, pain, joy, pleasure...they're all "alerts" to identify specific conditions quickly and easily. But they're not infallible, and they're not meant to make the choices for us. Combined with the frustration of such a powerful force apparently taking away humanity's "right" to choose whether or not they fight over things could possibly do it. That said, I do think it would take more than that.
