  • fyi, there have been DCI drummers who HAVE NOT made OSU's marching band.....thank you. And that is coming from someone who appreciates both equally.

  • Comment removed

  • i just dont understand why after thousands of performances on all types of fields, courts and rinks....that people still go insane over this..whats the big deal about it? its got to be the most boring drill in the history of man kind...you want precision drill? check out the Tennessee circle drill...probably the best drill ive ever seen...and sound? the ohio marching 110 has got this band beat times 10 if you ask me...

  • tradition, my friend, is something that only grows stronger over time. so maybe it seems boring to you as someone who's not part of the tradition, but you also must respect it for what it is and what it has been.

  • A few things wrong with your statement, Bella. First, "exciting" does'nt translate to "precision" drill. I assure you, this is not the most complicated thing the OSUMB does(and, not to put down any A band member, but this isn't a real Script Ohio), but it isn't anywhere near as simple as people seem to think it is. Just to humor you, I checked out the Tennesse drill. It's actually not hard. Most is simple 8 to 5, and some spinning circles. On the 110 statement...you must have never heard play.

  • @Iololz

i wasnt looking for someone to state whether i am wrong or not...i am saying the fact that this has been done so many times over....it gets a little stale after a while...ou band has a better mix of instruments, INCLUDING woodwinds (clarinets,saxophones)....hence, osu tends to sound a little too "tinny" for my liking...ou always does something fresh, something new, something different..they dance, they get the crowd rowdy...

  • @bellapop79 OSU sounds tinny because they don't have woodwinds? Lol.

  • Put 30 clarinets next to five trumpets and let me know how many woodwinds you hear. Useless instrument for a marching band, they just do it to be PC for the non-brass/percussion instrument players.

  • That's because you know nothing. Quality versus Quantity. Even though the 110 has less people, they still over play everything. Ohio State could play 10x as loud as the 110 if they wanted to.

  • Agreed shwn. In fact, we do play significantly louder than any other band I've met, but we make it sound better. It's not just blasting. And, bella, your "better mix" only involves woodwinds, as that's the only difference between the OSUMB and the 110, and, if everyone is playing correctly, they're literally impossible to hear. And if you really don't think the crowd/team/everyone in the stadium enjoys/ gets pumped up by the OSUMB, you are sadly mistaken.

  • Because OSU doesn't have flutes or colorguard. 'nuff said

  • There is no doubt that this is STILL the best college band tradition ever. No matter if its on the field, court or ice, Script Ohio is always INCOMPRABLE! And no It's definately more than follow the leader. Its precision spacing, movements and execution. As a proud alumni in TBDBITL Class '05 there is and will never be any other single thing that fills me with OSU pride than seeing the finest 225 in the land! Go Bucks! OH-IO

  • I think I can end this whole debate. Although the OSUMB is called TBDBITL, they aren't. There are plenty of high school bands, certainly college bands and virtually every DCI corps, that blow OSUMB out of the water and i've read some arrogance that is unfounded. Is OSUMB good, yes, but their appeal lies mostly in the traditions they continue. Script is not an impressive marching move- it's a follow the leader. Let's just all have fun with celebrating what Script is all about- buckeye spirit!

  • FYI, script Ohio is not merely follow the leader. Oh, I will give you that DCI's are good. But they could not execute the moves OSUMB does, and certainly could not produce enough sound to fill Ohio Stadium. Plus, DCI's rehearse the same show for months. One one hope they they can perform it well. OSU does a different show every Home game. You need to get your facts right

  • have you seen a good DCI corps? check out the cavaliers, phantom reg, glassmen,..i can't think of one off the top of my head that had an easier move than script ohio. Check out the cavaliers, machine show opening set. amazing. As for sound, DCI definitely blows out OSUMB in that department. Like I said OSUMB is great, but it gets annoying reading them put down the athletic band at every turn. I don't understand the point. Especially when, although I love them to death, OSUMB isn't THAT great.

  • You have to understand that The DCI is more competition where THE OHIO STATE marching band is tradition!! The DCI cores have great shows and killer music and what not, but they aren't really known. the only people that know then are people that are into that kinda stuff, where the OSU marching band is more known to college fans and what not. DCI and college marching bands are two different groups. So you can't compare two different things!! It jus don't work.

  • i dont care what anybody says...its sweet.

  • i can't stand this! im was in athletic band am and now in OSUMB. I hated it when I did it and hate it even more now. It does not look good, as it is just a scatter drill, and it doesn't look like script ohio.. the A-band needs to separate themself and gain their own image because they are a great A-band. If they are always in the shadow of the Marching band, then they will never shine in their own light.. but props because the fans love it

  • stfu already geeze lol... you bitch n whine way to much. i dont care if your a frickin waterboy or the frickin head coach of the football team...its OSU BABY!!!!!

  • how about you go to hell and tell the athletic band to stop riding on the success of the marching band? anyone who hears them, knows they are not "good" but everyone assumes they are cuz they are osu, just like your ignorance is showing now

  • my ignorance hahaha thats funny. ok lets talk u dumbshit. your waaaay blowin this out of proportion! lighten up nutjob noones ridin anyones coattails. theres plenty of room for both. my god man pick on meatchicken or sumfin hahahaha. as for me goin to hell... no thanks mate i'll stick wif heaven :)~

  • Nobody is riding on coattails? Since when does the A-Band do Script Ohio? They are banking on the fact that the marching band does it and everyone loves it. There is no proportion that this is being blown out of. This is simply a crappy band doing something that is unorignial in order to gain recognition and the audience is too dense to realize it. YET I REITERATE, THE FANS LOVE IT SO IT IS GOOD IN THAT ASPECT ALONE

  • whoa!!...hehe... your guna pop a blood vessel :)~

my best red foreman imitation... ''dumbass''

    go bucks! boo blue!

  • did you seriously just quote red foreman? now i know why you think the a-band is good. it's because you believe that show is good. moron

  • yet you knew of red foreman tooooo....lol.... hmmmm very interesting.

guess you watched it a few times even tho u thought it sucked lol. wink wink.... i hear ya

the a-band is nooo threat to thee marching band so quit makin it one. i believe ppl are intelligent nuff to realize the huge diff between them. but for sum strange reason you have sour grapes up ur bum for them lol. god i crack myself up. now whos moronic?? liten up dumbass ^^

    go bucks! boo blue!

  • i also know presidsnt obama, and i dont like him either so thats irrelevant.

nobody said it was a threat. ever. and people are much dumber than u think. they still say the marchinnggg band was at the game and it gets old because they dont represent well enough for no clarafication to be made

  • hmmm now theres sumfin we have in common... obama to me is the frickin antichrist.

wow what a way to cut down buckeyes! lol.... ''dumber than i think?'' wtf?? lmfao!

you got steel gonads my friend...

    go bucks boo blue!

  • I

    O

    !!

  • O

    H

  • NICE. Different, but nice.

  • I was at the OSU-Washington women's volleyball sweet 16 matchup last year in Seattle, and the band came. I sat behind them and asked if they could do Script, and they told me that's strictly a marching band activity (i.e. not allowed). Is that true, did they change the policy, or did the marching band make a special appearance? Go Bucks!

  • That is true and untrue at the same time. Only the OSU Marching Band is allowed to actually script out Script Ohio...notice how we scattered letter by letter....The marching band only does football and other very special events..the athletic band does every other sport, including basketball and hockey where you will see the athletic band do script on ice twice a year, and now hopefully script on court once a year..maybe more with the fan response I have been getting...almost 6000 views already

  • i saw this thing it was TBDABITL, haha

  • @skiman645

Just curious, but why is the marching band only allowed to do the actual script of Script Ohio? Is it like a law or something?

  • I think I remember you! lol I was one of the trumpet players in the Volleyball Band. That was a fun tourney trip...even if I wanted to mute the crowd in that absurdly purple arena.

If you would like to read more about either the Marching or Athletic Bands go to

    w w w. tbdbitl. osu. edu

basically, if you don't see the uniforms with the crossbelts in the fall the band you are seeing/hearing is more than likely the Athletic Band.

  • I moved to Wisconsin from Ohio and I drive people crazy by routing for Ohio all the time! Hey! You can take the girl out of Ohio but you can't take the Ohio out of the girl!

  • Everyone watching this, keep in mind it was the VERY FIRST EVER Script Ohio at a basketball game. A piece of history!

  • A fact I shall never forget! I was able to be a part of the First ever Script Ohio on ICE and the first Script on the Court!! I love the Athletic Band :)

  • aurev32...We beat your Vols twice this past winter. You can talk smack when you have a real team. Hope Tennessee keeps that coach a few more years. He's a real loser...GO BUCKS.
