  • Mike Honda used to be a round eye caucasian till he moved to CA; Then smoked himself into the gelatinous tub of socialistic slant eyed tub of shit you see today.

  • Mike Honda only odes what Nancy Pelosi tells him to do. Mike is a good little dog.

  • power is knowledge and one word implies SO MUCH KNOWLEDGE U WOULD BE ignorant not to want to know the hypocracy behind it...

    HEMP!!!!

  • Honda is a typical government hack and statist. He wants "comprehensive" imigration reform-code for amnesty. Someone needs to give him some coffee- he says a lot of nothing and is half asleep.

  • Honda is Sarah Palin's DICKLESS and BALLESS BITCH and PUSSY! Palin is a SUPERIOR politician and statesman than Honda could ever be. She is also MORE MAN than he is for Honda wears the skirt in his family while his wife wears the pants!

  • That would be "wafer" not "waffle" in the comment about Applied Materials. I thought it was just a simple mistake, until I watched the rest of the video.

  • I'm ashamed that Honda is my Congressman.

  • I'm happy that CSPAN posts on youtube.... wish they could post everything new.

  • Mike Honda is right, public education cannot be responsible for the lack of engineers.

Public education, at least in large part, has to do with teaching social norms, not engineering techniques.

A decrease in engineers has to do with changes in technology. Competition in technology is tremendous, and companies "move out" when they really just went out of business.

Mattel incorporated was an American company i electronics, but they "moved away" on 2002 (in other words, weren't making $).

  • This is incorrect. American technology companies in Silicon Valley (Mike's district) can't hire enough good engineers and mathematicians. Our public education system is non-competitive globally and we end up hiring engineers from other countries on work visa to fill the spots. The decrease in engineers has to do with poor math and science skills in our primary schools.

  • With electronic companies selling their merchandise below cost, I don't think "non-competitive" is the right word. XD

Simply put, primary schools don't make engineers, universities do.

Primary schools are responsible for elementary math; however, elementary math can never create another engineer.

University comes into play on that one, they have the resources to do so. That is in part why they tend to be more expensive. Public education was not for serious students to begin with.

  • The interest in science and math comes long before college students are picking out their majors. Since they aren't prepared, they don't attempt technical majors. I'm on a board that hands out scholarships at a midwestern university. The kids coming out of high school look at the challenging coursework in the universities technical fields, realize they are under prepared and choose other majors.

You think public schools aren't for serious students? You're kidding, right?

  • You're also kidding about electronic companies selling their "merchandise below cost" right? Check Apple's margins or Intel's or HP's.

  • Well, as far as I understand it, Apple released their Iphone some years back and Sony released their Playstation 3 for prices that didn't make them hardly any profit.

Both products didn''t do well in sales in the first 2 years, and so they have had to reduce their prices down.

Why the price cuts? Just one word: Microsoft. Now, as much as I love their products, their tactics for selling are disgusting. They sell all of their products below cost, forcing their competitors to die.

  • Sony is based in Japan, not Silicon Valley.

Apple brings new products to market every few months and maintains its profits (its a public company, just take a look at last quarters financials). Apple released the iphone in June of 2007 and has sold over 17 million.

  • Right, Sony is American based. However, there is a Sony of America headquarters, so they are technically an American company.

It's just like Toyota, no? Toyota did come from Japan, but there is a Toyota of America headquarters.

They sold millions of iPhones within a couple months, but that was just with the cheap 3G versions. iPhones with more memory did not sell well at all. I would be surprised if they still have the higher memory devices.

  • You're not even making sense. Sony is a Japanese company. They have offices in the U.S. like every large company. The discussion was regarding technology development.

Apple shipped 6.9 million phones in Q3 2009.

You have no facts, you don't even have good guesses.

    That's my last response.

  • We should have expected that response to come from someone like you. :P

6.9 million sold, true. However, just a simple encyclopedia like Wikipedia (free, mind you) would also tell you that 6.9 million were sold AFTER a price reduction.

Another good example of this would be with the Playstation 3 by Sony. It has sold about 22 million units thus far, but ONLY after a price reduction.

I have no facts? Well, what I just gave you were facts. Take it or leave it. :P

  • On your Wikipedia search did you notice that Apple has 29 Billion dollars of cash in the bank?

  • Oh yeah! They make lots of mula! :)

In fact, I am predicting a Apple Inc. as a future threat to competitors.
