I was there. Enjoyed the Naked swim, pick fire wood along Kallang River Bank.
Yes Life was tough, no money & family with many mouths to feed. Family planning was never heard of. Now it is just bitter-sweet memory now in my 60's.
Although life is hard last time, they look so happy. Singapore currently are prosperous, but you look at the layman on the street, everyone got a stressful and unhappy face. Look like only the people wearing white are the only group of people who are happy cos they basically in recession proof occupation.
If only time can turn back, and we will be happy again !
Its those times where money cannot buy happiness. Remember we catch fish and tapoes in the ponds? now where got ponds! We're damn lucky we enjoyed those precious moments. Cos today newer generations have money but live like slaves! No thanks to the government of today, younger generations work hard like shit as if no tomorrow! But back in those days we really enjoyed ourselves! 3 cheers to 1960 - 1990's!
Yeah! I'm 13 years old and I'm also very unhappy and stressed. Must worry about sudies andthis and that. Look at them! Can go longkau catch longkau hee. Nowdays children scared this scared that. Lucky my parents from kampong so they expose me to insects and spiders, longkau fishing... My friends ah, even small flying ants also they scared! Alamak! YOu understand me?
I understand u. Infact u're the lucky one. there are others who don't even know how to catch a spider. and it doesn't stop here. the whole stress thing started later for us, kids nowadays faces stress as soon as they start schooling, and partially the parents kiasu but ultimately the government is to be blamed, for bring such lame education standards into Singapore. Blind studies, not creative, not enriching. Poor kids! Good old days are gone forever.
I tell my parents say next time I going Malaysia to stay. Singapore too boring, all the bustling city make me very sian. I like to stay kampong, peaceful and quiet, not much pollution. Kampong can catch longkau hee (my favourite), can rear poultry... So fun!!!
And then hor, no stay kampong nevermind. HDB can be equally fun. Well it used to be fun when I was small (1996-2001). Nowdays govt build those upgrade HDB make until like private house like that, the neighbour all never come out and talk, the children never come out and play. Last time I got a lot of friends one leh, now all move to those "private hdb" ah. I still staying in those old HBD flat (built in 70's) so still at least got 1 or 2 friends.
Hello. This one 2005 National Day give free one you want sell to me. Last time I got okay! I lost it that why. Alamak. I also Singaporean, cannot cheat me...
Wish my friend can play with me like how thse children played. I feel so sad for myself after seeing how these children playing happily with a group of friends. I feel so lonely and bored now. Why must govt cover drains?! Now, I cannot go smnall drain catch fish with nets and jam jars.
What kids nowdays really need are friends. Im 13 this year, seldom play computer games. I hate computer gams! I caused me to lose all my friends! Now, they just stay at home and play computer, no more going out to play with me. I like outdoor, swimming, fishing, soccer, fun and games! Not boring computer!
Thanks for the video.reminds me of my younger days.Exactly what I used to see and do back then.Hope to see more of it if you have them in your collection.
Thanks psvision for your posting. This is a great video which I am sure alot of Singaporeans will be proud of. You have done Singapore proud. Happy New Year to you and your love ones!
