hell, gilbert can tell the difference between a block bolt-on joint and an all-access neck joint tone-wise on his guitars.. which is very slight, most guitarist (incl. me) can't even tell the difference..

I aint a guitarist, but I've been following rock music all my life, and as an avid rock fan, I absolutely love this. I can't obviously comment on technicality, but it's still an epic instrumental piece for any rock n roll fan. And besides, if U hear the whole track, he does do some pretty sick shreading in it, so this aint a gay-ass ballad at all.
