  • Boooooooo haha that shit was booty

  • you convinced me not to go to this school... and I went here. Shit!

  • ah dude im applying to UR this fall i hope its not that wack haha!

  • parody* spelled that wrong in the info... like multiple times... awk

  • this is the best thing ever

  • Just whatever you do, don't drink Beer in Redlands. The Police Hhhhhhaaaaaate Beer Drinkers. No Beer Baby. Wine, Whiskey, Rum, Vodka, Champaigne, Coolers, and Margaritas till you puke... but don't even THINK of sipping a Beer, or Chief Bueermann (Beer man Take "U" (you, punk) out, might hear about it. That is Beer man, take you out! :-0

  • Thank god, beer olympics and Laughlin are still tradition

  • thats legit

  • John calls this what it is--an homage. This is because that in the satire there is also a true appreciation of some of the good qualities of the U of R--it never is snarky. This is what makes this such a good "unveiling" of the public relations mask (as many of you point out). It works because there is always more information students want that is officially available. You fill that niche.

  • What might have improved this video would have been to find a way to highlight its connection to the original that would have been more available to those outside our community.

  • Thanks for cutting off my head Jaimie!

  • Great video! Smart idea and great way to incorporate the school with popular culture. The group did a good job rounding up lots of people and putting together the song and the video itself. Editing was done well.

  • This is a great satire of something every student of Redlands should know. People will like this because it not only displays a trope of college life, but also involving people not in the class, the view count will be signifigantly larger.

  • Smart Rubin and Melnick reference with the word "jipped." Also I think it is worthwhile to point out that Youtube thinks one of your key demographics is Males 45-54...

  • You all did an amazing job! I think this should be replaced by the original my tour video because as all Redlands students know this is the authentic version of Redlands college life. By creating a collective effervescence among the students through symbols everyone can relate to made this video so popular. I also like how you used an existing piece of work to create your own vision upon it.

  • I think this video was really inivative. The wink and the nod was well displayed. I found myself laughing a lot of the references made to the party houses, individual people (a shout out to Curtis himself haha, Steven Williams, and Dan) and can't forget the reference made to "getting Jipped by Joyce". I am happy this video was created and hopefully will give "my tour" a run for its money, to show them what Redlands is really like

  • I love how it shows "the other side" of redlands where as the "my tour" vid is strictly the campus life in a way that appeals to parents and potential students.this vid is more open to what really goes on during week nights, weekends while still bringing up the postive stats "same size as USC but more one on one attention"- public safety etc. your unvieling the mask. I think potential students should watch both "my tour" and "my party" it shows the balance of academic and social! AWESOME JOB!!!

  • This was really great. You really involve the Redlands community when you put your own [hilarious] spin on the "My Tour" video. You really seem to grasp peoples' overall opinions on the original video and play those as your strengths- like when you say" If you need a laugh you can YouTube My Tour." That made me laugh.Very clever video.

  • l think that the wink and nod was used very well in this film. Anyone who has seen the My Tour original would tend to agree, i think, that this is much more entertaining for college students. Like ArielforPresident said by using outside students you were able to get a lot of views, I wonder if you had only used people from the class if the popularity would be the same?

  • It is pretty great that you were able to turn a promotional video for the school into another about the party scene at Redlands that I'm sure Res Life and the Administration won't be too happy about, especially considering how many views you have. I bet that getting people to act in it who aren't in the class attracted their friends and networks to also watch the video. I would definitely recommend it as one of those videos that all Redlands students should see.

  • First, hiiiiilarious. it's interesting the detail in which you use the "My Tour" video, I watched it just prior so as to compare them directly, and this is clearly a direct homage to the original. While it pokes fun at the video, it has surprisingly similar objectives as an object of self-promotion. The polarity between messages (where Emily's is one of positivity about generally everything, and yours points out the negative aspects) make this a very successful satire.

  • I like the idea of creating a sort of homage to the original My Tour video by using the same music but drastically changing the message of the song. It provides, in my opinion, an inside joke that the students of Redlands can share in, and perhaps by making the song focused on the party life it opens interest up to a wider audience. Most of the students at the school as well as prospective students like to party, so this video offers little risk because most students can support its message.

  • Winphree video an identity has been created one that for some is reality for some is a clear depiction of the world of leisure.

  • Like @nadia9027 I believe that this video takes a functionalist approach, in which specific symbols must be understood to fully grasp what is going on. For example Casa Azul Karla mentioned would have no significance to an outsider of our community. While I do not believe it is a better depiction of what the UoR means to the student body as a whole, it does serve as an additive to the collage we have started of the UoR's real identity, like the Kayla

  • Well thought out and wonderful work! This video definitely draws upon an understanding of symbols that are relevant to the UoR, thus eliciting the functionalist perspective. Yet at the same time, it does provide beneficial information to prospective students, such as class sizes and location of the campus, as well as an insider view to the social and party culture at the university .

  • Like the my tour video you also need to have insider knowledge on the places that the video talks about and you would only get this if you are a student here and participate in the party scene.

  • This video successfully portrays the world of leisure that is available at the UoR which is not shown in the original My Tour video. This video distributes knowledge of when parties start and the places they take place in i.e Casa Azul and Gamma Nu. It also provides the opportunity for sociability since this is Redlands, a place where there is a 3-1 female to male ration and you get the access to the identity of those who can ruin your party experience like P-safe.

  • this is a great video, i felt like it more accurately represented most of the students at the university. I love that you made fun of my tour, it definitely creates a community feeling along with the social self. redlands students will definitely find this video more appealing than "my tour" because is has a more authentic feel to it, it is not so forced and awkward as its predecessor. Maybe the advertising team on campus could learn a thing or two about collective identity

  • This video is a fantastic representation of bricolage-ing-ness. I definitely feel like this video represents U of R much better than the other lame video up on the Redlands website. Totally about social interactions and how popular culture is created, diffused, and consumed as a result of these social connections. These characters are definitely opinion leaders, showing freshman what Redlands is really about. This should honestly go on the Redlands website.

  • This is a really funny video that highlights the actual aspects of this campus many students enjoy. It gives non-UofR students another perspective of campus life so they at least know there are two sides to the story. By parodying the 'my tour' video it falls into a common category that is popular on youtube. There are many video parodies of songs, especially Ke$ha songs, that are hilarious and point out the absurdity of the song lyrics.

  • I liked the way they mashed up the two worlds; the total Redlands image of all the latest in college buss words, class size, facilites, and etc. and the party seen mirror (the other world). As some one said best below, the parody to the image. The rapper looked like he was showing some mobility and cultural capital as he lead us through his sphere. There was no participation gap with this guy, he knew the rules and how to use them.

  • This video is amazing! I can see how much effort and thought your group put into both the content and filming of the video. Any student at the university can relate to almost every single thing mentioned in the video. It is the perfect parody to the original Redlands My Tour video. The video does a good job of embodying lots of different aspects around campus.

  • alexnielsen22: Oh wow didn't even see that whole description added in below the video. You're totally right, according to that it seems that this video is meant to more realistically represent Redlands. And it definitely is just one aspect of the University, and even further, just one aspect of the party culture. You're totally right.

  • @MsSNRivera Ya definitely not trying to represent every aspect of the univeristy and the University's party culture in this video. We were just trying to show one aspect and trying to get people to relate to that in order to understand it.

  • Seriously, they should think about using this instead of the stupid My Tour video.I love that the weather is unintentionally displayed through this video being created in December in Southern California and there are people tanning. For me, that was one of the reasons I came to Redlands. There is lots of referential material that students from Redlands will pick up on, with my favorite example of the bookstore and Commons. By playing up all students perception, the video becomes instantly loveable

  • This video speaks to the whole reality of college as a whole, possibly more so because it's redlands which is such a small and contained area. I often joke that we go to the second or third Redlands high. The video is well made and references lots of different cultural elements, not just party videos but also the actual Redlands tour video. I personally like this one way better, the shout out to Joyce was too funny. Good writing credit goes to someone too.

    -Erroll

  • A great aspect of this video is that it reinforces the idea that everyone can be a cultural producer and reflect their particular perspective, and add to the existing knowledge of Redlands, in this case. I think it's definitely crucial to point out that that doesn't mean that they are representative of the entirety of the Redlands experience, which has often been used to derail or discredit particular perspectives. I liked the easy-going inclusion of common knowledge -ridiculous book expenses

  • Well it is a song about partying. Not about the other aspects of college life. So it's going to portray the 'party student' at college versus the other kinds of college students.

  • @MsSNRivera I totally got that, and I'm not saying that I think you did a bad job on that aspect or anything, I really like the video. I'm just saying that by including in the little info thing that this is a more relatable representation of campus life, and then making it a song about partying, it becomes a comment on not only the original "my tour" but also on what it means to be a part of the "party" culture at Redlands, and what that lifestyle entails. I'm saying it's interesting/good.

  • Who is the beautiful girl @ :37?

  • Using the same popular culture medium to parody the original is pretty creative and interesting. I view this also as a parody of the lifestyle portrayed in this video. The creation of the social-self and conspicuous consumption are on display heavily here, as it portrays a particular kind of college student and way of life in college while leaving out others, indicating a kind of performance of the social self to fit in with the cultural norms of some groups. Not sure if that was intentional...

  • Great job, Jaimie. I would have cast Israel Carr as the "hero," but the guy looked close enough to be a stand in double. The whole Joseph Campbell myth of the hero resonates throughout. I think i actually entered the "belly of the beast" when that "belly flop" happened. I think I'll send it to three of my seniors who are looking at Redlands. This could seal the deal for them... College admissions counselor may be you new title...

  • Awesome!!!

  • good stuff

  • LOVE IT! Best thing ever, and party like a bulldog!!!

  • this is the real redlands tour!
