Well wether gun control works or not doesn't really matter to me. I own guns and 3 dogs. I doubt anyone is breaking into my house and will live to tell about it. I carry a .45 full size high cap pistol everywhere I go so I doubt you would want to mug me. My wife carry's a .357 mag so it would be unwise to attempt to rape or mug her. If you don't want to own a gun that's fine. You can even make it illegal to own them. I'll still carry and still be safe.

In my state, Carry Permits have a restriction that prevents carrying in Schools, Churches, and Bars. So if an Islamic Fundamentalist wants to shoot some Americans they can be sure to find them unarmed in Schools, Churches, and Bars. In NC where I live, the Concealed Handgun Permits have been being issued to law abiding citizens since 1995. Hundreds of thousands have been issued. To date, not one permit holder has been charged with a gun crime.
Criminal background checks, mental health background checks then a course approved by the justice dept must be passed before you can even apply for the permit. It is a good system in NC.

If a civillian is old enough to be a cop, has passed a strict background check, and has had as many hours of gun training as a cop, I believe that he or she should be permitted to carry a handgun. It will be just like having more cops on the street. But they will be safer than real cops because they know if they wrongly shoot someone, they will have to pay the consequences. No one will try to cover it up for them in the name of protecting their own.

I know I'll be flamed for this but when was the last time an innocent bystander was killed by a stray knive? One of the 100+ deaths in the city where I live was a 3 year old girl killed by a stray driveby bullet. And if everyone was packing yeah that guy in the mall would've been stopped, but how many bystanders would've been shot in the process with everyone shooting their guns in a crowded mall?

this is true, but guns are long range deadly weapons that can kill a massive amount of people quickly and accurately. you cant just have guns being sold all over the streets and in local supermarkets for anyone to buy.
if people have guns on the streets and a common conflict arises such as road rage or someone gets shoved instead of a shouting match people know they have a gun and the gun will be part of the conflict and that will cause loss of life. it's a psychological issue.

Well wether gun control works or not doesn't really matter to me. I own guns and 3 dogs. I doubt anyone is breaking into my house and will live to tell about it. I carry a .45 full size high cap pistol everywhere I go so I doubt you would want to mug me. My wife carry's a .357 mag so it would be unwise to attempt to rape or mug her. If you don't want to own a gun that's fine. You can even make it illegal to own them. I'll still carry and still be safe.

In my state, Carry Permits have a restriction that prevents carrying in Schools, Churches, and Bars. So if an Islamic Fundamentalist wants to shoot some Americans they can be sure to find them unarmed in Schools, Churches, and Bars. Or perhaps the people who made this law think that Islamics will not find out about this law?

In NC where I live, the Concealed Handgun Permits have been being issued to law abiding citizens since 1995. Hundreds of thousands have been issued. To date, not one permit holder has been charged with a gun crime.
Criminal background checks, mental health background checks then a course approved by the justice dept must be passed before you can even apply for the permit. It is a good system in NC.
Law enforcment officers have a higher crime rate than that.

First, you didn't answer as to the content and methodology of the study you sited before. Second, what you're talking about here is an immigration problem as that asshole should have been deported not jailed. When crimes are committed by individuals the individual is prosocuted. Think any of them were used to commit a crime? 85% of federal gun cases are brought against people who commit violent acts while less than 10% of dealers who break the law are aver charged. If a civillian is old enough to be a cop, has passed a strict background check, and has had as many hours of gun training as a cop, I believe that he or she should be permitted to carry a handgun. It will be just like having more cops on the street. But they will be safer than real cops because they know if they wrongly shoot someone, they will have to pay the consequences. No one will try to cover it up for them in the name of protecting their own.

One of the 100+ deaths in the city where I live was a 3 year old girl killed by a stray driveby bullet. And if everyone was packing yeah that guy in the mall would've been stopped, but how many bystanders would've been shot in the process with everyone shooting their guns in a crowded mall?

My point is that people will murder and steal no matter what the law says. I think we can all agree that murder and theft should be illegal because it forcefully imposes a person's will on another. The Second Amendment was proposed to Congress on 1789. The guns they had in those days couldn't hit a Jewish Comedian from the front row of comedy club. God forbid someone wanted to mow down Martin AND Lewis. He'd have to shoot one and then take a minute to reload or come back for the second show. But who does 2 shows a night nowadays? With the guns today he could knock off Monty Pythons Flying Circus in a heartbeat.

When you remove the right of protection from the lady you ensure she will always be enslaved to life as a victim, because the police can never stop a crime before it occurs.

Yes, you could get killed with a kitchen knife. What part of what I wrote made you think I thought the opposite, you dumbass? You could also get killed with a toaster oven or a telephone if you get hit hard enough. The difference is that guns are designed to kill, they serve no other purpose. Comparing them to anything that *might* kill someone is dumb because EVERYTHING might kill someone. Guns have a special status for a reason.

Guns are designed to fire a projectile through a tube, they aren't "designed to kill" more or less than anything else, they are tools, they only become weapons when the holder so desires. In no part did I say some knives are designed to kill, I did say that they were designed for assault purposes, they do the same basic thing as kitchen knives, cut and/or pierce, but are used for tactical purposes. All guns are designed to fire a projectile(same basic purpose) they just do it a different way and are used for different situations. Therefore the comparison stands, you just don't want to admit it or can't comprehend the logic. Keep trying.

No, the comparison does not stand. As you said: all knives cut but some are designed for assault. The comparison to guns doesn't stand because all guns are designed to kill, the capacity to kill is not a marginal side-effect to what they were designed for.
The "guns are designed to fire a projectile" line is a cop-out. Like saying that dynamite is meant to produce sudden increases in energy, not for demolition.

You obviously don't know shit about weapons. Assault, as I used it for particular styles of knives, means that, killing is up to the wielder, an assault is just the engagement of force. If you shoot a target with a range gun, what have you killed?

I was a US Marine for 9 yrs. Trust me when I say I have seen most of what there is to se. To have a gun to protect your family at anytime is the best thing possible. All of the gun laws are about controlling your freedom. Criminals have guns so making harder for regular citizens to get them is asinine. Should safty courses be required, Yes I think so. Background check..no it doesnt matter the the criminal who gets one from the street.

It used to be honest non-criminal citizens were expected to be armed as a matter of civic responsibility.
We should go back to those traditions.
We should have the police teach gun safety to HS graduates on the safe and proper method of handeling firearms. That wouldn't be for the wackos, illegals or thugs with records but the rest should have the right to defend themselves and training and be certified to carry weapons for their own safety and security.

that is how i feel as well. i definitely believe in the right of the average adult to bear arms, but i also think we need background checks to screen out violent criminals, the insane, and those with a very low IQ. while it is true that bad guys can get guns elsewhere, there is no need to make it any easier for them

this is true, but guns are long range deadly weapons that can kill a massive amount of people quickly and accurately. you cant just have guns being sold all over the streets and in local supermarkets for anyone to buy.
if people have guns on the streets and a common conflict arises such as road rage or someone gets shoved instead of a shouting match people know they have a gun and the gun will be part of the conflict and that will cause loss of life. it's a psychological issue.

rav yankiff i agree partially. although agree that gun control laws are too strict, they shouldnt be abolished completely. living in new york city knowing that every shvartza chalelya, drug addict, teenager has a gun would make me very nervous. there has to be some control over it.
