You have to work to earn a place in heaven, or the world-to-come. You don't automatically get there when you leave this world. Jews believe that "hell" is a place of cleansing and the soul must be purified before it can earn a place in the world to come. There is no eternal damnation the way christians understand it. Well I am Jewish and I am living a pretty full life practicing my own religion. Millions of righteous, G-d fearing Jews before me didn't believe in jesus. They devoted their whole lives to serving G-d and doing what He wanted so I'm more than certain they are not in hell. You do not need an intermediary with G-d. You have to work to get close to Him on your own. It takes hard work and sacrifice but it is attainable at least on some level.

I believe the immediate context of Isaiah 53 could be talking about Israel, but the interesting thing about biblical prophecies is their multi-dimensional layers to them. I think it's very possible the verse could be talking about both a contemporary issue, giving it an immediate context, and it could also be a future prophecy to be fulfilled in a later day. All true Christians should believe in the Torah and the Prophets, not just the Gospels of the New Covenant. Shalom

You have to work to earn a place in heaven, or the world-to-come. You don't automatically get there when you leave this world. Jews believe that "hell" is a place of cleansing and the soul must be purified before it can earn a place in the world to come. There is no eternal damnation the way christians understand it. There are vindictive angels which a person creates through his misdeeds. These are all Jewish concepts which would take many pages to ennumerate. Look into them if you want

Well I am Jewish and I am living a pretty full life practicing my own religion. Millions of righteous, G-d fearing Jews before me didn't believe in jesus. They devoted their whole lives to serving G-d and doing what He wanted so I'm more than certain they are not in hell. You do not need an intermediary with G-d. You have to work to get close to Him on your own. It takes hard work and sacrifice but it is attainable at least on some level.

You don't believe him simply because it doesn't agree with your predefined notions of what is "correct." I would also be extremly careful about making character judgements towards people you don't even know (or even ones you do know). "For with the judgement you pronounce, you will be judged" (Matthew 7:2). I do believe this story and may we all make a complete teshuva (repentance).

@salobeans, yes you're right. The "suffering servant" is DEFINED by Isaiah several times as the "nation of Israel" (sometimes in the Bible, it is personified as "daughter of Zion"). Christians have a tendency to hijack Old Testment scriptures (I speak as an ex-Christian). Isaiah 53 is a poetic description of the travails of Israel as it is led away captive to Assyria. But there is hope because through their suffering they have paid the price for their sin. The nation came to the brink of death.

There is no proving it or not proving it, that's what it says. I believe the immediate context of Isaiah 53 could be talking about Israel, but the interesting thing about biblical prophecies is their multi-dimensional layers to them. I think it's very possible the verse could be talking about both a contemporary issue, giving it an immediate context, and it could also be a future prophecy to be fulfilled in a later day. All true Christians should believe in the Torah and the Prophets, not just the Gospels of the New Covenant. Shalom

Sinai, and WHO has kept those meanings sacred and the texts sacred so that the Isaiah scroll differs from what we have today by only a couple of letters? no. because jew is a modern gentile word. just like G-d is a modern gentile word. the hebrew word for a diety is el. or in respect to the one true G-d, Elohim (G-d Most High). I believe that "Jew" in English comes from the German "Juden" which does mean "of Judah".

The Jewish belief of hell is that most people will experience it and it is a short-term necessary process whereby the soul is cleansed from the stains of transgressions, etc. in order to be pure enough to be able to "receive" or come closer to God (for many reasons). However, there are parts of the process after death before hell and the "next world" does not immediatey follow hell. To understand what he is really talking about requires a lot of studying certain areas of Torah...
