  • one step beyond&twilight zone ROCKS!

  • Too bad she ascribed her rescue as a "psychic miracle"...why are people so unwilling to acknowledge God? Very tragic...to be saved by Him, to then deny Him.

  • "There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, Than are dreamt of in your philosophy." Hamlet, scene v I do believe old Shakespeare had a point. Yep. :-}

  • I was so happy and relieved that poor lady was saved. I would have cried if she didn't make it, particularily because of the disabling condition she was in, that made it even more grim to escape the tidal wave. But two lives were saved and thats good. The older man saved seems so nice of guy to bless their hearts

  • The narrator would make a lot of the ultra modern talk shows, political mainstream, and prime time tv. look like jugling clowns. The narration and these programs are serious as a heart attack and right on the mark with his presentations.

  • I agree with Mrs North in that there are influences that determine our destiny. I only wish I knew how to use them

  • How presecient after what's happened in Japan AND Hawaii!!!!!

  • F.B.AYE OR C.I.A BULL SHIT!

  • @trautsrevilo Thank you for your intelligent assessment, Mr. Tea Party. Now go back outside and play with the rest of your balloonhead buddies.

  • Mrs North, at the end, is not really so much older than the actress playing her - it's just that she was a real person, not an actor, so she's not all dolled-up like the lady playing her. So it could have been a year earlier that the actual event happened - although most of these stories are apocryphal, not actual proven events, otherwise they would have made the news headlines. Another great episode!

  • @Kevin107ish NOT EVERYTHING MAKES THE NEWS HEADLINES HUN. PREPARATION AND FAIR KNOWLEDGE CAN DAMAGE THE NEWS' RATINGS CAUSING FEAR AND IN DUE TIME DISBELIEFS. THAT IS HOW BELIEVING IN GOD WORKS ALSO....SOME PERSONS CAN'T SEE VERY FAR, SO THEY CALL OTHERS CRAZY, UNTIL THE EVENTS OCCUR.

  • this episode could have been made just last week, amazing with earthquakes in chili and zunamis. i had never heard of this show until a couple weeks ago now ive watched most of them. im not going to say its better than twilight zone but it is just as good. john newland rocks.

  • I was in Thailand in 2004 for tsunami relief in Takua Pa....Hard to imagine the devastation if you've never seen it up close.

  • wonderful episode, thank you so much for uploading :)))))))))))

  • I just watched this story. It was really well done. But I can't confirm if it's true or if there was independent documentation of it besides on this show.

    It was originally aired Aug 30, 1960 according to IMDB. That's pretty fast between the time the event actually happened and the airing of a story.

    I couldn't find any indication that Honolulu was even in danger. Only the destruction of Hilo Bay is mentioned in the Chile earthquake and tsunami.

  • @phillydisco I have heard this story mentioned on radio, on a special about physic events but I have yet to find any real sources and her name. But the producers of One Step Beyond claimed all the events they depicted were true life stories. So I really dont know.

  • @mattfrye1

    I saw the entire episde years ago. At the end of the show, John Newland introduced the lady who this happened to. She was quite elderly at the time, which means that this must have happened decades before the show aired.

  • @xxxxyyyyzzzz4444 Yes I know but this episode aired in 1961 and the events they are showing in the acutal footage and so forth occured in 1960. That always struck me as very odd becuause he introduces an elderly lady and the episode itself shows her as young.

  • Hey, my friend Dave married on deafmatching. He is very excellent. Meet deaf singles pls check

    ~~~deafmatching dot c om~~~
  • classic
  • "Damage estimated at $50 million." HA, HA. I know it's 1960 dollars, but imagine what it would be today. 10 - 20X ?
  • Another genius episode!
    I wonder if the deaf man driving the car was the inspiration for the half-blind cartoon character Mr. Magoo?
  • May 21st 1960. Great point, Kraftpr. Methinks someone has been messing with time - maybe TZ actually did come first after all? TZ started in '59.
  • God I love this show! I heard a lot of these shows were based on real events. I was half waiting for Ted Baxter to go into his Ted Knight voice for a second there! lol Gotta go, gonna check out another one. Peace baby!
  • good one
  • When I was a kid this show really scared me especially the music.
  • Isn't the tech in the first scene 3:04 that gets on the phone "Ted Baxter" from the Mary Tyler Moore Show? I don't know the actor's name, but the voice and the facial expressions sure seem like "Ted".
  • Yes, it's Ted Knight. He was known at the time for looking like Barry Goldwater.
  • Another good episode of One Step Beyond!!!
  • How could this episode have aired Feb. 14, 1959 when Mr. Newland refers to the event as having happened in 1960? Strange.
  • I loved this show when I was a kid...
