it was before the end of 2003 ted may left for channel 5. but i'm sure ted was not happy about the central tv annourers being axe for a new network team in london

IIRC, this wasn't quite the end of separate Central continuity - the incoming network team in London used to do 'Next' caption links that only went out in the Midlands.

Of course, Birmingham retained its own TX centre until 2004.

I guess technically Central ended in 1999, although this was more au revoir to Carlton. I think only LWT and the Granada North regions only mentioned what was going to happen the next day, imagine if you didn't know, waking up to find Carlton Central or any ITV regional branding gone.
