  • Great song..This band has a definate Velvet Underground..Bowie..Roxy Music sound to it which can't be all that bad..

  • oh man the voice...one of the best voices of the 80's

Thank god, ...they could only go so far POP with a voice like that. In the end they saved a legacy rather than totally selling out.

..though midnight to midnight was a sell out compared to their earlier stuff.

  • I notice the video in 240p, and I thought "why?" Then I noticed it was uploaded in 2008 and everything was better. RIP the old youtube once again, and RIP the childhood I could have had if I'd have been an 80's kid...

  • I'm a die hard metalhead and I like lots of other stuff ...this is a good song and it disna matter how old ye are ..... lots of good music from the 70's and 80's ...the only difference is noo that most music is absolute shite ..... made to make money no other reason. Look at the likes of Metallica, Megadeth etc ...still touring after 30 years ... the X Factor or American Idols of this world only hae a years shelf life and there in the bucket ....

  • One of the best voices in Rock. Mr. Richard Butler!!!!!! and top 5 Band of all time!

  • Iouiioiiikgiuiy

  • 1980s was good didnt realise it then but so much good stuff ,when you got high unimployment ressesion etc always brings out the best in music

  • this music matters in 80;s not what they been show at MTV

  • This is better than the later one they re-recorded.

  • why did they make them re record it. i think this one is just as good

  • was this song really from 1981?? I remember it as a teen in the late 80s, unless it gained attention just for the movie???

  • born in 81 and grrew up in the 80s... why is it that when you grow up and you look back at those days you feel a feeling that you just cant explain????

  • saw them do this at Reasing in the vert early '80's.. love it !

  • in the eighties i was in me twenties,a grebo who hated the music and the fashions.now i love the tunes.weird.

  • I'm born in 97 but have good parents

  • @8Dicecoldbaby funny your profile says your 19

  • @lookie1992 I know I was to young when I first made an account so I lied

I'm impressed at the effort of your trolling- well done

  • I like musice from pretty much any decade or genre but to me the 80's was the best. During the 90's, music became a bit depressing and dark. Not that it wasn't good music I just preferred the carefree feel of the 80's music.

  • i'm 15 this year and i listen to music from all decades. i listen to music from the 70's, 80's, 90's, current hits and classical pieces. i personally think that they're all good in their own way. there's good music no matter which decade you're from. if you really listen to the music with an open mind, good music will sound good. so i think we all should stop comparing the decades and actually take some time to properly listen to music as music and not judge it based on which year it was from.

  • @alisonhss ...you are so lucky to be in the youtube age...it used to take, literally, years to track down obscure brilliant older music...now it's all at your fingertips...keep going!...and don't forget the 20,s, 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s :)

  • @alisonhss if you check your profile it says your age is 19...

  • @alisonhss I'm 15 too and I totally agree!

  • @alisonhss I'm 3 months old and like the beatles, stones, elvis hendrix

  • @alisonhss So what , you want a Medal or something?

  • @alisonhss How about the 60's? They had the best psychedelic rock.

  • @digitalgenre 60's was one of the great eras, but all of them should be thankful because what i read back then was because of the disillusionment of pop songs at that time, there was no alternative to them so punk, new wave etc was born. I still love the 80's era.

  • @alisonhss well said!

  • i was a young adult in the eighties & i have to say the music & fashion ot the time was absolutely dreadful. mostly i must add due to the americanisation of almost everything we were gettin thrown at us on the tv at the time. feckin hated the 80's with a passion!

  • Born in 81 btw, so I feel I got a good eperience of both decades

  • I like 80s music more personally...

  • I was born in 1984....look at me showing off!

  • I saw their concert the other night...still sounded just as good:]

  • The 90's had better music than the 80's in my opinion. Probably the wrong video to post it on, but seriously. Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, Tool, Nine Inch Nails, Third Eye Blind, Red Hot Chili Peppers, In Flames, Muse, etc.

  • @1wertyuiop1wertyuiop In my opinion the 90's music was all about people being happy about feeling sad. The 90's was a mistake from God.

  • @1wertyuiop1wertyuiop In what way was the 90's better in terms of music? In some ways, 90's decade was an extension of the 80's.

  • @Supersweetguy That's true, and I like 80's music as well. But with artists like the ones I posted above, I'd pick 90's grunge and metal and alternative over 80's rock and punk and alternative.

  • @neurosis2012

That's a compliment, because we all know that the 80's sucked musically compared to the 60's and 70's.

  • If John Hughes made a soundtrack for my life, this song would surely be on it.

  • I loved this video when it was released. MTV played it a lot when I was about 22.

  • This holds up nicely. Butler had the knack of seeming to say more than he did, and to sound bloody ominous into the bargain. Not an Ian Curtis, but ahead of lots of pretenders.

  • Top tune

  • what does this have to do with the music...if people want to argue go to each others e mails..it to me..is sad..this is my story..my daughter was born during this song..on my way to the hospital on the radio it was..as much as i love you tube..im ready to vomit im new on the computer and well....nothing nice to say do not say it at all...and what i have also found out is that most of you hide in this world ...i love walking in the rain..does that stop u from the dollar menu

  • born in 88, and no i don't remember when this was brand new, but where i'm from, the radio only plays songs years old, and shows or movies in the early 90s always played 80s songs, and yes i've seen 80s movies and like them, so i guess i have no right to like this couse i wasent a teenager when this came out, ok yeah, i guess i'll never listen to it again, or any other music i like thats not from living memory, you guys are so right.

  • i'm a '89 baby

  • @neurosis2012 you got DEBBIE!

  • I'm just grateful to be cognizant of awesome music, no matter what decade I may have been born in. (1974, if anyone really cares)

  • I'm a 90s kid, but I should have been a 80s kid.

  • @TheAncientMariner09 Nothing wrong with the 90's mate.

  • i wouldn't care if i was born in 8080 i will always appreciate this fucking kind of music! true music!

  • :D Can't wait to see them in concert this Saturday!!

  • RESPECT TO YOU CORKEY MY VIEWS EXACTLY !!! WHAT A BAND !!I IWAS BORN IN THE 60S BUT THE FURS WERE A SPECIAL BAND !! I HAD ALL THE GREATS!! BUT THEY WERE UP THERE !! GLAD TO BE A MUSIC LOVER IN MY TIME !! SEEN THEM MANY TIMES BEST TIME IN GLASTO WHEN GLASTO WAS GLASTO NOT THE CORPERATE SHIT NOW !!! NEVER PAID TO GET IN I WOULD NEVER GO NOW IF YOU PAID ME !! LEAVE IT TO THE TEENY BOOPERS !! ONE REGRET NOT SEEING THE BOSS AT GLASTO !!

  • I was born in 1985 and I consider myself a 90's child. The movies, television, and music my generation enjoyed and continue to enjoy are much more raw, real, and edgy than that of the 80's The 80's were meh... Anyway, I love this song !! It's much better than the one used for the film's soundtrack.

  • I was born in 80 but enjoy the 90. in 2000 80 and enjoy what comes now

  • 15 people pretty in black.

  • The music is gone, but the love for it is the same (;

  • these lesser know bands deserve a lot of credit for being true to themselves and not selling out to become popular

  • i dont know y dis song always reminds me of that 70s show

  • the sound quality is bad

  • Why don't they have music like this nowadays???

  • @NewJerseyCarMassacre Blame Disney for capturing all of the kids idea of what music is. and how everyone has the shittiest taste in music . You will now hear boy bands and terrible ones the have no talent and don't even write their own music.. the world is going to hell cuz of shitty music now a days.. 80's and 90's music for life

  • @MyPantsAreSomewhere That's a damn shame.

  • Thanks to Saints Row 2 that bring me here and i listen to this song every day uhuuuuuu and i'm so glad to say it !!!

  • I think of Molly Ringwald when I hear this, I had a hard on for her in the 80's

  • Saints Row 2

  • @cramojjedc yeah

  • pretty in pink means naked, i think

  • I was 1 yr old when this came out, but I still feel a twinge of nostalgia when I watch it. Weird.

  • Well, I was born in the 60's and came of age in the 80's. I discovered this song when it was new, and it brings back a lot of memories. The 80's were a great decade to grow up in. Thanks for posting.

  • I was born in '91, so I missed the 80s. Luckily, my parents didn't, and I still got to hear all the good music! (When you get past the bubblegum, the 80s had some of the best music to offer in the 20th century.)

  • @sugarandspice4815 yeah, if you can get past the bubblegum, most music after that was pretty good. this song being a good example.

  • i love this song.

  • this song is my jam... it's my baby making song... bye bye...

  • @Granty2k8 not even close to an 80's child. Perfect example of what I said!!

  • Forgot the video - remember The Albany Empire - like yesterday

  • Comment removed

  • @RadarGuidedVermin almost pissed myself laughing

  • I remember hearing an even slower darker version than this ?

  • i like the Dresden Dolls version better

  • i was 8 when this came out, was wicked rad

  • wow even though i wasnt alive when this song came out i still love this shit

  • Saints Row 2 brought me here

  • @clashrogers yeah me too lol

  • Aah, Molly Ringwald.

  • I was lucky to be born in 1958 and was in my early 20s then, exciting times musically. :-)

  • @JohnnyBeQuickOrDead

You're somehow missing a decade here, mate.

  • Also born in 72 and lived this stuff, reminds me of high school in the 80s.

  • Still great. Born 1972 and I think it doesnt matter when you discovered it, just that you did :)

  • haha, you guys saying you're '80s children reminds me of how I used to say I was glad to be a sixties child because I was born in '68. The truth is, however, WE are the eighties children, turned 12 in 1980, graduated from college in 1990.

Generation X, man, you'll never match it! Every other generation is generation LAME!

  • @greg5566: ROFLOL....whatever man, I was 22 when this track came out....you were 13.....you think you knew anyting other than letting the hormones wash over you, you were still learning to form an opinion.....but no hate on...better late then never brah

  • this was always my fav version of this song, furs are coming to knoxville next month, cant fing wait

  • such great memories...Thanks!

  • miss u jff :(

  • good one shar1179 but was not talking to you cunt

  • well done beesyeah you f*****g SMUCK i was born in 86 and i prob know more 80`s songs then you f*****g barney silly mug

  • @MrMitchell97 While I'm sure you think you know all there is to know about music...It's apparent you don't know much about spelling or etiquette. Shut up and listen.

  • @MrMitchell97 Thank you so much. It gladdens my heart to hear such sentiments!

  • Wait, hold up, it was only like last month that I was hanging out with my friends after work listening to this in our cars, what happened? I was like 23 when this song came out, now I'm frickin 50, where did all the years go? Holy crap, life IS short.

  • not heard this in years! still sounds f***in great!!!

  • being ten at the start of 80 I got to get into all of this stuff at just the right time, if you were born in the 80's you had already missed it. What 7 yr old was listening to the Furs? Come on people!

  • @deathdealer60546 I was born in 77' and got to enjoy plenty of this stuff, highschool would have been cooler in the eighties though.

  • sweet

  • Definitely shouldn't have been born in 1990...

  • Wow I watch this and think about how long ago this came out and how great it still is

  • If you are born in the 80's you probably were watching Barney and not listening to the 'Furs.... If you were born in the 60's....this music was the anthem of your youth!!!!!!!!!

    Puhlease....

  • @Beesyeah I was born in the 80's and I love 80's music. Another person I love to listen to is Frank Zappa. Now tell me, howmany 26 yr olds...or older for that matter listen to or even know who he is.

  • @Shar1179 wow. It's not about how old you are, or what year you were born when whatever video came out. (1981 by the way) But it's about the music. W'either you were born in the 80's or not it was and still is good music. "Claire, you wanna see a picture of a guy with Elepantitis of the nuts?

  • @countlordshaun1331 Didn't mean to sound condescending but I hear alot about how much people my age know nothing abt "REAL" or "GOOD" music. Everyone has their own opinions. I like musuc that isn't horrendously overplayed. Or shit that no one else listens to.

  • @Shar1179 I agree. Even when the music is good, if it's over played it begins to lose meaning. And it is true, a lot of people think that because of your age or if you prefer a certain type of music over another that you don't know what good music is.

  • @Shar1179 I you love stuff no one else listens to, then you would love indie in specific I am pointing towards Modest mouse.

  • @Shar1179 Well, I'm 33, and thanks to watching The Monkees on tv as a kid, I know who Frank Zappa is and I think he was a weirdo and a genius! I so love people that are completely unique. And I like Moon Unit's Valley Girl song

  • If you are born in the 80's you probably were watching Barney and not listening to the 'Furs....

    Puhlease....

  • 11 people are ugly in pink..

  • Damn, I wish I was born in the 80's

  • Born in the 90's, wishing I were born before.

  • @Omes8are8cute yeah you missed out on a lot of cool shit

  • Another one of these post-punk sorta new wave bands that make 80s movies golden.

  • Pretty in Pink!!! No not Pretty in Purple!! Pink!!

  • do note the masonic floors and columns

  • My god... its been thirty years...

  • beautiful album, beautiful song

  • was teenager when this was big--the original is quite poignant and evocative--the remake is toothless and silly

  • so am i mazingerzful a 80-90's fan and a little 2000 but in the 80's never had a boyfriend or a first kiss and when these songs come up i get sad

  • born in late 89'...... glad to be a fuckin' 80s child ;)

  • @corkey29

That's good, just don't fuck too hard.

  • @corkey29 you're not an 80's 'child' if you were born at the very end of the decade :P but sure...

  • @Insaneagram exactly...

  • @corkey29 88 here and proud to be an 80s kid too :)

  • whys it gotta be a fuckin 80's child lol

  • @corkey29 I can see you have an 80's vocabulary to go with your fondest of the decade.

  • @corkey29 you aren't . only if you were born before the 80's

  • Comment removed

  • @weirdscience85 what are you talking about?can't we just listen to the song?

  • Comment removed

  • @weirdscience85 Fuckin Hell-! so the highlite of 1988 was being constipated ? You couln't make it up--You still are mate----full of shit . JEEEEEEEEEZ

  • @MrDaiseymay excuse me who the fuck is talking to you.. get a life dude.. I don't see whats so unbelievable about someone being able to remember their early childhood.. its just rediculous... the constipation incident was just a day, it was an example I thought was a funny memory.. I never once said it was a highlight, I was brainstorming that year dumb kid... and stop saying "mate" it sounds so stupid... im my country it means to FUCK.. do you wanna fuck me??

  • @weirdscience85 Oh dear---I thought this was a public debating platform. If you want privacy get a room. Christ your boring--MATE! I'm afraid to break this to you-but, I don't give a shit what YOUR country or you think how the word Mate is used. After all the fuckin abuse of OUR LANGUAGE you TWATs have imposed on us in the last two centuries. AS for your 'offer' to fuck yeah--no point, someone has already fucked yeah in the head.

  • @MrDaiseymay All I saw was "oh dear".. didn't bother reading the rest of youf blabbing... so fuck off

  • @corkey29 80's child in the sense that you were born in the 80's. you were a 90's child because you grew up in the 90's.

  • @corkey29 uhh, dude, that makes you a 90s child, as you grew up in the 90s. its not when you were born, its when you grew up. if you were born in late '79, you would be an 80s child.

  • @JoeBannanas123 Thats true but if you wanna get technical about it, don't forget what age you are a child at... its 3-4 years old is when childhood starts... thats why we start school at 4... I was born in '85, we were the youngest of the 80s children.. I remember it, I have all the pictures to prove it.. I remember wearing acid wash overalls with red suspenders.. I was obsessed with MJ in 1988, I rented the movie Moonwalker every weekend until I was 6.. THEN came the 90s! Childhood is quick

  • @corkey29 --put a cork in it u should a lived in the original sex drugs and rock and roll era -just lucky i guess

  • @corkey29 Thats awesome!

  • @corkey29 was born in 81 I actually grew up in the 80s man the NES was the shit I remember playing the classic Mega Man series now that was great videogaming

  • Comment removed

  • @weirdscience85 i was born in late 91 and am still 19 and all of those movies etc were literally the ones i have grown up to as well-don't think there is really some clear cut divide between being a child of this decade and that esp when you're on the cusp like me and many others.. i got a mix of all three decades 80s 90s and 00s..cartoons were the BEST in the nighties and very early 00s- glad i had my tv screen on in those times..its now permanently off!-LITERALLY & fuck do i love it that way

  • @arealOpia1991 Oh ya I know so many people born in '91 who got stuck in the 80s too but not a lot of kids born in the years after...cuz 1991 was still quite 80s, so was 1992... you don't see the culture shock really until the 3rd year of the decade...and yeah I stopped watching tv around the same time as u... around 2001, now Im even more stuck in the 80s than I was in high school lol.. on purpose

  • @weirdscience85 cool thing x) ... and literally I'm living in a world of all the past decades from the 50s to about 2001 too xD .... its a great world to be in when we're physically in this shit bag of one alright ! it really fucking is X)... only wish i could physically and tangibly be in different times to match ....poooooooooo x'((((

  • @arealOpia1991 YES! thats because those were THE BEST times of music... the 20th century... the 50s thru the 90s.... the early part of the 2000s was similar to the 90s as the early part of a deacde is much like the late part of the last

  • @corkey29 Don't listen to them, if you like 80's music and were born in the 80's, you can be an eighties child all you want

Born in 83 here, growing up in the 90's I still listened to this music an dthey played plenty of it on the radio.

  • @corkey29 You weren't a child in the 80's! Childhood starts around 3-4 years old right, so if you made to those years while the 80s were still happening then you would have been an 80s child, but you were born '89 you were just a newborn on the last year so you're clearly a "90's child".. people born in the 70s were the 80s kids, the ones who lived the whole decade beginning to end.. I started school in 88-89 I was a late 80s kid but the youngest.. and im born May '85... Im truely a "90s kid"

  • Wish i was born in the 80's :<

    I'm kinda 80's and 90's in my heart :D

  • I miss those days 80's rock

  • Funny. I was dating a Chiropractor, and living in Pasadena at the time. She was deported, however. She was here on a student visa, and was not supposed to work. Well, she was doing massage at a health club, and tried to get away with it by working under the table. She got caught. Pity. She was cute, too.

  • Marie Antoinette: Everyone betrayed her, yet didn't want to own up to it.

  • @StarQualityWins whats new?.

  • @StarQualityWins

You know nothing of French history, Marie Antoinette was entirely detached from the terrible conditions of the country she was supposed to be ruling. Don't just watch the movie.

  • @mcclammer I studied French history in Norway, where they weren't afraid of Napoleon and understood their Swedish neighbors' involvement in the American Revolution. There is evidence that both Robespierre and Napoleon hid because French Monarchy actually were working on something better for humanity in the long run. They'd been inspired by Americans after 12 years of close relations. Napoleon was only selfish tyrant. Marie couldn't see because that was Robespierre's point, he didn't want her to.
