How do you proceed if you have to land on a circling approach opposite arrival direction, like it appears on your video? What is "pattern altitude" at that airport? The terrain is very steep very close to the runway... :o
Amazing approach. It reminds me a little about a time I flew in to Gilgit, Pakistan from Islamabad. Also an interesting valley approach, maybe not as spectacular as this one.
i've flown with drukair to Bhutan twice and its awesome to look out of the window and see how close you are to the ground, especially at the last mountain\hill :D
Would you say this is probably the most stressful airfield you have had to land in? Or despite all the obstacles is it reasonable enough that it's no more nerve wracking than usual?
Also wanted to comment - Notice home people are building homes around the airport. In America, this always happens and 10 years down the road, they all complain about the jets!
As a private pilot, I truly appreciate the opportunity to see this most interesting approach. I can't imagine seeing this as a flight crew member for the first time. Coming around a mountain to find your approach! Largo, Fl USA (PIE)
druk in bhutanese means dragon, drukyul, the native name for bhutan mean land of the dragon, better known as land of the thunder dragon...its just makes sense because that is the primary symbol of the country its similar to saying air canada or whatever
FABULOUS - I always wondered what that landing must be like. I am so pleased you filmed and posted this famous approach and airport. Many thanks - just makes me want to go to Bhutan. I hope I get there one day!

Wow - I flew a pax jet a whole lot around Southeast Alaska - but

what the missed approach procedure is?

Awsome video. I'm amazed at the amount of videos this airport has. I can't wait to fly there in FS9. Scenery looks great!

Gotta love it! Visual approach only, I am sure. I bet that airport is closed to landing and departing traffic frequently.

The pilot on that plane are much more experince. So you don't have to worry although you are flying in mountain country.

great video, i like it

At 2:41 MINIMUM altitude warning voice. Ehm, how many feet from airplane to the ground at that hill?
Thought Kai Tak and St.Maarten were cool, but this one is also a risky one :-)
wodanowitz 3 years ago
I thought this was a tour until 2:10. You must be kidding me! This would make a great strip for Ultralights not commercial aircraft!

Nice! i love this video...That's why they called it "One of the most dangerous airports"...^^,

damn! night place to build an airport (sacastically) would have better in the valley then you would have hill to turn around.

Wow! That was amazing! Looks like some idiot like me said, "Hey, lets put a runway here." Not knowing any better.
tigerandbuddy 3 years ago
@tigerandbuddy we're a mountain country. Paro (where the runway is) is the widest and flattest valley we got.

Thats the most difficult approach,i thought he was gonna have to go past and make a left downwind..visual landing is a must here.

takeoff procedure = avoid the ground, don't crash

Thanks for the amazing video. So did you actually pilot the Bae 146? How much easier or harder would it be compared to the a319s?
