Actually if you also want an example of an epic mature game with no blood. Clock tower on the SNES is to me one of the most frightening games ever made. How many gallons of blood was in it?... only about 0,2. Yeah. It wasn't the gore that made the game scary it was the absence of music, sounds and light not to mention being stalked by someone that can just appear in the room if you're there for too long.

I own the censored version of No more heroes. I've finished the game and I really enjoyed it. While I do admit that I'd rather play the uncensored version, it really didn't fuck the game for me.Gameplay was still alot of fun even if the blood was replaced with ash. If you want to bitch about censorship, take Left for Dead 2 for example, they butchered that game for us aussies. The bodies dont pile up when you kill them, there's no decapitation, no blood. Now that's a game worth bitching about.
The European and Japanese versions of NMH's are in the 'original' format of the game which doesn have any blood. It's not censored at all, it's just it never had any blood to begin with. Suda 51 later on wanted North American version to have something extra so added the blood. I've got both versions by the way but I agree that at the start of the game there should have been an option to turn the blood on or off. This would have been a lot better.

both are mad up from the same creator yes, but both games are actually different, no more heores is actually normal compared to killer7's insane characters, scattered story that you have to put the puzzles togther for, and overall mature themes, i never played killer7 {too scared and too young} but i can say this, both are different.
I totally agree, I looked at lots of reviews "all had blood btw" I thought the combat looked abit repetive though and the only thing that saved it from not being that was the cool finishes you could do with spectacular effects!

So the blood isn't in the European version. It wasn't in the Japanese version either. You still get the humorous cutscenes and bad-ass nerd kicking peoples' asses with a lightsaber. In europe censorship is iligal because of right of free speech and bloody things will be 18+, in Holland the only thing censored is Mein Kamf. But everything els is legal.
The European version is exactly the same as the Japanese version. They added blood for the US market.
Suda 51 has stated that the European/Japanese version of the game is his original vision of the game. The European game was not 'censored' - Rising Star chose to release the "proper" version.

I was disappointed when we got the censored version, but if you didn't buy a good game because of that then I just feel sorry for you because you're missing out on something great. And it's also been pointed out before that Suda51 had both versions in mind. So we did get to play it how it had been intended. So in this case, I don't think it's a political thing. I think Suda wanted both versions of the game published.

Official Nintendo Magazine said that the censored european version was actually better, I can't remember why exactly...I think they said it looked more stylish with that dust stuff or something. If you ask me I'd say europe is going a bit oveerboard with the censors. It used to be america that wouldn't allow gore an stuff, but I guess the tables have turned, and now, not only does europe get much later game releases than america and japan like before, we get to look forward to ridiculous censors

Yes, your version has ash instead of blood, but that's only part of the appeal. The art style, the story, the boss fights, the gameplay. Oh yeah, dude, don't knock on identical gameplay because of a graphical detail. Those should be grouped separately and judged accordingly that way. This video also dragged on for 6+ minutes.

Bought it yesterday. After the deathblow the enemies just burn down into black ashes. Not only the gameplay sucks but also the cutscenes. After you fight Shinobu, her arm is not cut n of course, no blood, but the awkward thing is that the 2 guys (who were supposed to mop the blood) keep doing their work, cleaning nothing. N when you fight Destroyman, there's still blood everywhere, he still gets stabbed, but the guy won't b sliced in 2, he just turns into another pile of ashes.

i returned this game because i didnt know the european version was censored. i was pretty let down by the fact there was no blood. as sick as that sounds it does add that gorey asthetic to the game. also i dont think its right to sell an edited version in other countries and cost more (games cost more in the UK). i want the full game for the money i pay. it could be to do with the Wii's market in th EU, its more directed at children which.... really sucks because the GC was'nt. it sucks :(

both are mad up from the same creator yes, but both games are actually different, no more heores is actually normal compared to killer7's insane characters, scattered story that you have to put the puzzles togther for, and overall mature themes, i never played killer7 {too scared and too young} but i can say this, both are different.

I totally agree, I looked at lots of reviews "all had blood btw" I thought the combat looked abit repetive though and the only thing that saved it from not being that was the cool finishes you could do with spectacular effects!
but now the effects are gone instead they just turn to dust. If it was Black or green blood I wouldn´t mind but just turning to dust? You never feel like you kill your enemies.. Imagine playing gta 4 and every time you shoot someone they just turn to dust... LAME

So the blood isn't in the European version. It wasn't in the Japanese version either. You still get the humorous cutscenes and bad-ass nerd kicking peoples' asses with a lightsaber. If you're going to whine about a game just because it's not the American version, just buy a freeloader and buy the American version. We'll then proceed to hear a lot less ranting.

The European version is exactly the same as the Japanese version. They added blood for the US market.
Suda 51 has stated that the European/Japanese version of the game is his original vision of the game. The European game was not 'censored' - Rising Star chose to release the "proper" version.

@apoptosis61 I appreciate that the US version of the game makes more sense, especially with No More Heroes 2's story line, but I stand by my point that No More Heroes is a good game, regardless of censorship. I also can understand why people were pissed that it got censored, but it wasn't the main selling point of the game. The game play was. The story was. The characters were. Not the blood.

I was disappointed when we got the censored version, but if you didn't buy a good game because of that then I just feel sorry for you because you're missing out on something great. And it's also been pointed out before that Suda51 had both versions in mind. So we did get to play it how it had been intended. So in this case, I don't think it's a political thing. I think Suda wanted both versions of the game published.

Official Nintendo Magazine said that the censored european version was actually better, I can't remember why exactly...I think they said it looked more stylish with that dust stuff or something. If you ask me I'd say europe is going a bit oveerboard with the censors. It used to be america that wouldn't allow gore an stuff, but I guess the tables have turned, and now, not only does europe get much later game releases than america and japan like before, we get to look forward to ridiculous censors

Geez, that's it? No Blood? I like the coins in my Irish version. Apart from the scene where the guy is whailing his severed limb around without Blood to strange effect, I don't see the problem. Yes, your version has ash instead of blood, but that's only part of the appeal. The art style, the story, the boss fights, the gameplay. Oh yeah, dude, don't knock on identical gameplay because of a graphical detail. Those should be grouped separately and judged accordingly that way. This video also dragged on for 6+ minutes.

Bought it yesterday. After the deathblow the enemies just burn down into black ashes. Not only the gameplay sucks but also the cutscenes. After you fight Shinobu, her arm is not cut n of course, no blood, but the awkward thing is that the 2 guys (who were supposed to mop the blood) keep doing their work, cleaning nothing. N when you fight Destroyman, there's still blood everywhere, he still gets stabbed, but the guy won't b sliced in 2, he just turns into another pile of ashes.

i returned this game because i didnt know the european version was censored. i was pretty let down by the fact there was no blood. as sick as that sounds it does add that gorey asthetic to the game. also i dont think its right to sell an edited version in other countries and cost more (games cost more in the UK). i want the full game for the money i pay. it could be to do with the Wii's market in th EU, its more directed at children which.... really sucks because the GC was'nt. it sucks :(
