If this video were of a random twelve year old that was not famous today, people would definitely not define him as "genius" or "savant". People are saying this boy is a genius because they know that he is in the popular alternative rock band Muse later in his lifetime.
Looking at things objectively will really help you keep a level head in life.
this is kinda general.. i mean yes some do not speak objectively but when a kid can play like that it is genius. whether is now famous or not doesn t matter. playing like that is a gift which either practise on and increase it or let it just be and then grow up and cannot anymore be separeted from lots of adults piano players that worked their ass off to reach that level (hope makes sense what i said)
It doesn't take genius at all to play this piece at age 12. If it takes 6 years to be able to play a piece like this, then the student is going at average pace. To be honest, Matthew Bellamy is good as a rock pianist, but as an actual classical pianist, he falls short. He plays many one-dimensional arpeggios that repeat over and over, giving an illusion of complexity.
But hell, I still love Muse, just not for its piano.

first of all, not many of those young musicians stick with it for the rest of their lives, and if they do, most of them dont understand what they are playing, and only know how to play it. Matt Bellamy went on to form what i consider one of the worlds greatest bands. Not only do i believe it is impressive that he was rocking hard from age 12, i think it is pretty fucking inspiring.

Why do people think this guy is some kind of great muso? Sure, he can play both guitar and piano, but you fanboys would have people believe he's some kind of genius. His piano lines are solid but unremarkable. His guitar lines are utterly pedestrian compared to the likes of Tom Morello. His vocals are flawed from a technical perspective and fail in comparison to the likes of Jeff Buckley. And as for songwriting, well... he's never going to be a McCartney or Lennon is he?

Why do people think this guy is some kind of great muso? Sure, he can play both guitar and piano, but you fanboys would have people believe he's some kind of genius. His piano lines are solid but unremarkable. His guitar lines are utterly pedestrian compared to the likes of Tom Morello. His vocals are flawed from a technical perspective and fail in comparison to the likes of Jeff Buckley. And as for songwriting, well... he's never going to be a McCartney or Lennon is he?

Trying to assure people that they've failed usually means that they've in fact won. Muse are incredibly pompous and ridiculously over-the-top live. Live performances have moved on since the days when histrionics were cool. Christ, it's not the 80's anymore.

The thing i find the best abut yourself is the fact you lack the knowledge that everyone has a different taste in music, just because you don't like it doesn't mean it "perpetually blows". I myself am not a fan of bands such as Metallica but I won't deny the fact there one of the best bands out there. So maybe you should realise tht the world does not revolve around yourself and keep your personal opinions to yourself!

I use to like matallica untill they became greedy bloody wankas. After that me along with alot of my friends who did like them just don't want to listen to there music because they got to bloody greedy. I personaly tho think MUSE is a way better ban then Matallica for very strong reasons.

You can't tell people that this person and that person is better than Matt. It's a taste that people have, what they like, what appeals to them. It's something that can't be shown by statistics. Some people will say that he is a genius because Matt appeals to them.A lot of people say that rap is crap, but somehow it's the most popular music today.

If you don't like Matt or Muse then why even watch the video. It's just a 10 second clip of a little boy playing the piano at a recital for his school and you have nothing better to say but that everything he does is basically blah. I don't understand people like you. You came onto a clip of someone who obviously hase natural talent-genious might be a bit strong, but he is definately a musical savant.
