The character's in the animated series, Avatar - The Last Airbender are all one of the four following races. Water Tribe, Earth Kingdom, Fire Nation or Air Nomads. All are fictional ethnic groups that live within in the fictional world that was created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. Asian people do not exist in this world, neither do African's, Australian's nor American's. Therefore no one particular race qualifies as being a better choice to play the parts of any character.

I think I can see why people would be upset tho. It's not because its exactly white washed, But it diminishes the opportunity of casting future characters. To be honest, it's completely biased. the fire nation will consist primarily of Indian and Mediterranian people
and finally the air nomads will be a mixture of all races.
You have no idea what races they're going to include in the movie. For example, M. Night just stated recently that the entire Earth and Fire nation will be made up of Asians. That's more than the majority of the entire Avatar fictional planet! Water and air nations have the smallest populations, and they're the only characters that will be casted as white. OK, all of you make a pretty strong point, but there is a video I think you need to see. It is a video called The Last Airbender Movie Update #8 - Score Composition. The video's maker has created a whole series of updates just for this movie. It is #8 in particular that I believe you need to watch (at least the first half of it) It sort of explains that there IS diversity of nationalities in this movie and it is not entirely a white cast.

The reason why people say Aang looks more white than "asian" is probably the way he is drawn like many animes the characters don't have the "asian" look (as in almond shaped eyes but not all asians have almond shaped eyes) so they cast white actors.
The simple fact of the matter is nobody knows Aang's race. I grant you that Sokka and Kitara are inuit or some such thing, but Aang could be caucasian or asian, nobody knows. I personally think he looks more caucasian than anything, but I can't say for sure. There are various agencies representing Inuit/yupik actors in Canada and America. Even if they cannot find an Inuit/Yupik, there are Native American Actors available.

This might be the stupidest boycott that I have ever heard of. The film makers are simply filming the movie in a way that will most accurately portray the original series. Apparently you didn't watch that, because EVERY CHARACTER IS EITHER ASIAN, INUIT, OR CAUCASIAN! Why should they cast anyone of different ethnicity? That would define diversity for the sake of diversity (aka reverse discrimination) my friend, and it would only detract from the accuracy of the film with regard to the tv series.

The character's in the animated series, Avatar - The Last Airbender are all one of the four following races. Water Tribe, Earth Kingdom, Fire Nation or Air Nomads. All are fictional ethnic groups that live within in the fictional world that was created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. Asian people do not exist in this world, neither do African's, Australian's nor American's. Therefore no one particular race qualifies as being a better choice to play the parts of any character.

I think I can see why people would be upset tho. It's not because its exactly white washed, But it diminishes the opportunity of casting future characters. To be honest, it's completely biased. Yeah, you have a right to boycott the movie if you want to: I just think you're missing out on a potentially great movie for one of the stupidest reasons I've ever heard. We do not "owe" any race casting roles in a movie. Shyamalan didn't pick only white people because he doesn't like other races-he's Indian himself, I think. You have no idea what races they're going to include in the movie. For example, M. Night just stated recently that the entire Earth and Fire nation will be made up of Asians. That's more than the majority of the entire Avatar fictional planet! Water and air nations have the smallest populations, and they're the only characters that will be casted as white. OK, all of you make a pretty strong point, but there is a video I think you need to see. It is a video called The Last Airbender Movie Update #8 - Score Composition. The video's maker has created a whole series of updates just for this movie. It is #8 in particular that I believe you need to watch (at least the first half of it) It sort of explains that there IS diversity of nationalities in this movie and it is not entirely a white cast.

First off, let's establish that Avatar the Last Airbender cartoon takes place in an Asian based world. The core of the series is based on Chinese martial arts. There is little chance that there wouldn't be any Asian actors to audition.
If you support this, you are supporting Hollywood's racism. In two movies prior to this, the main characters in the original stories are Asian, yet they were played by white actors.
