I don't ride at places like that anyway, I ride 90% street and go offroad when and wherever I like. And yes, the sound does carry for miles, but it is pleasing to my ears to be able to hear my buddy through the valley, who lives 5 miles away, coming towards my place and know instantly whether he took his KTM 450 or his Kawasaki Zx-10r, and how fast he is going along the way :)

@drzs400 YES! the 4 strokes now days have more power but only last a few races before you have to open the engine up to fix or adjust something. I love my CRF but it cant stand up to a XR650R or a newer 2 stroke in the reliability department.
@drzs400 well the 4 poke 450 may beat the 250 2 stroke but after all the 450 is going to lose miserably if it goes against a cr500. and if you want to bring up fastest theres a twin cr500 made by trickracing1 and theres 4 cylinder banshees. 2 strokes are the king and are still in production. the maico 700 is being made and the tm and ktm still makes 2 strokes.
KTM's are my favourite bikes, 4-strokes are better to ride and they aren't so "aggressive", but ofcourse the cr500 accelerates better, you just gotta be a damn good to ride it well.

@127simy no good reson my ass i've been riding trail in the ozzy bush for 9 years in that time i've seen 7 break downs 1 x 10year old cr250 6 x ktm 5 of them 4 stroke 1 was only 12 months old and seized the motor big time cost my mate $3000 and yes it was serviced by ktm i've yet to see a blue one break down so if you won't to ride ktm good luck to you but i base my comments and opinions on experience!!

I've seen many of my mate's Gas Gas's, Honda's, Yamaha's and Suzuki's break down, does that mean they are all shit? Once in revs im sure the 500 does more torque, but i bet the 560 does way better off the bottom end, With that solid torque from the bottom right the way up i reckon it would be easier to get the power on the dirt. The 500 gets pretty wild once it revs up and all the power gets delivered like a punch to the face. Like i said, its all about getting the power on the dirt, and the 560 does it better, but thats just my opinion, cld be wrong.

Just to clear up a bit of confusion on this board........the KING of 2 strokes even till TODAY is the Maico 490 from 1983 and 1984. 63 Horespower with "primitive" 80's technology. It was a FUCKING BEAST!
ALL those HP figures are incorrect, every single one of them and the KTM 495 didnt travel that fast either. It was clocked at 88 MPH back in 1984 and that was even unexpected. The fastest KTM back in those days was the KTM 500 XC, it was a desert bike and it wailed ass at like 110 MPH.
1 i dont like the sound 2 2strokes have more power than the 4 strokes 3 when you drive a 2stroke you never know when it gets crazy.. it can trew you off the bike.. crazy engine!! (thats my opinion)
I agree 4 strokes have way more low end power making them great woods bikes and great in the mud, but 2 strokes are light have insane high end power and are really fun to ride. It really all comes down to personal prefrence.
Yes thats an accurate statement. Personally I love both and have owned both. My last 2 stroke was an 1988 YZ 490 which I sold a few years back. Right now I only own 2 4 strokes.........my trusty bullet proof 1985 XR 600R and a Yamaha XT 600W...... but I am looking at a Husqvarna 2 125 stroke woods bike. I love 2 strokes and 4 strokes equally and I hope that somehow 2 strokes are going to make a comeback. It sucks that they are trying to eliminate them. Too much fun.
Oh btw I'm looking for something with a light, like the exc. But I see that they discontinued the small bore 2 stroke exc for 2010, that leaves me only with Husqvarna's WR lineup to chose from now.

i live in the states, and there is no exc version, the one with the light that you can add is the xc-w, plus you can always get a light for a dirt bike. good luck!
if the xc-w has the necessary lighting coil and other components, then yes a light could be added. If it doesn't, gettting an aftermarket battery operated light sucks. I found that getting a bike with everything in place is still the best option. I tried all that stuff before with other bikes and its just not the same. I love ktm but if it aint got a light its NO GO. Anyway Husqvarna is right up there in enduro's, they have been winning many of the big enduro's.

There didn't look a lot to choose between them. On a supermoto track CRF450's would kick the arse off my KTM 660 smc. I sold that and got a CRF.
Now KTM 560 exe and twin cam KTM 450's beat shit outta that.
Now getting rid of Honda to get a KTM. I'll buy the best performance for the money at the time, I don't care who makes it.

Once in revs im sure the 500 does more torque, but i bet the 560 does way better off the bottom end, With that solid torque from the bottom right the way up i reckon it would be easier to get the power on the dirt. The 500 gets pretty wild once it revs up and all the power gets delivered like a punch to the face. Like i said, its all about getting the power on the dirt, and the 560 does it better, but thats just my opinion, cld be wrong.

ALL those HP figures are incorrect, every single one of them and the KTM 495 didnt travel that fast either. It was clocked at 88 MPH back in 1984 and that was even unexpected. The fastest KTM back in those days was the KTM 500 XC, it was a desert bike and it wailed ass at like 110 MPH.

I agree 4 strokes have way more low end power making them great woods bikes and great in the mud, but 2 strokes are light have insane high end power and are really fun to ride. It really all comes down to personal prefrence.

Yes thats an accurate statement. Personally I love both and have owned both. My last 2 stroke was an 1988 YZ 490 which I sold a few years back. Right now I only own 2 4 strokes.........my trusty bullet proof 1985 XR 600R and a Yamaha XT 600W...... but I am looking at a Husqvarna 2 125 stroke woods bike. I love 2 strokes and 4 strokes equally and I hope that somehow 2 strokes are going to make a comeback. It sucks that they are trying to eliminate them. Too much fun.

i live in the states, and there is no exc version, the one with the light that you can add is the xc-w, plus you can always get a light for a dirt bike. good luck!

if the xc-w has the necessary lighting coil and other components, then yes a light could be added. If it doesn't, gettting an aftermarket battery operated light sucks. I found that getting a bike with everything in place is still the best option. I tried all that stuff before with other bikes and its just not the same. I love ktm but if it aint got a light its NO GO. Anyway Husqvarna is right up there in enduro's, they have been winning many of the big enduro's.

in motogp when they allowed 4 storke and 2 storkes to race together, they aloowed the 4 strokes to be twice as large! that just shows how out of date the cr500 is if a 4 stroke can whop it;s ass

Problem with the 4 stroke fan boys is they make up numbers as they go. Dont like actual dyno sheets!
2 strokes have more torque and HP end of story.
New 4 strokes have shortend the stroke to increase RPM = HP (450=1200rpm = 48hp)
Shorter stroke = LESS TORQUE!!
Smaller flywheel = more RPM = Less torque!
450 vs 250 the torque is only slightly higher on the 450 with a added 200cc The HP is less in some cases - 250sx = 50hp / 300exc = 57.5hp
4T = GREATEST CON JOB DONE TO RIDERS IN HISTORY!!

A 2003 model Berg FRESH with new piston, rings, valves and valve springs does 45hp with 39ft/lbs of torque straight from the shop floor.
Just do a Google and you will get several charts. Leave out the High and low result (Math thingy) The average will be pretty close unless you find one from a reputable dyno then I would simply take that at face value!
2003 FC501 = 45hp @ 39ft/lbs
The problem is people go on - I think, hearsay, feels like or comp to a 09
