This was the first home computer game I ever played, closely followed by JetPac and Hoppit. My parents loved it, but initially had trouble understanding what it meant by press F1 to play! Strange how little memories like that stick in your head! :D
One of my earliest memories of gaming. I remember playing this really young as a kid with all the family. Impossible to get my parents off it infact. They are not fan of computers at all..... but everyone would love playing this game!
I wrote the game! Thanks for sharing the video. I must get myself an emulator, I have an old Vic-20 in the garage, but running on the Mac's going to be easier.
If you can look at the listing, you'll see my name and old address in Sunbury in the listing. I've got quite a few letters from fans of the game! I sold it originally as 'Vic New York' and then Commodore took it on and said they couldn't really call it that, so renamed it 'Blitz'. Ironic really when you realise what happened in New York years later.
@phooto One of the first games I played on my Vic 20 when I was probably only 5 or 6 years old. Brings back a lot of memories. Can play it on my modern PC thanks to the VICE emulator! I wonder if modern kids would get so much enjoyment out of something so simple?
I love how totally immoral this game is, years before anyone thought of Grand Theft Auto (which may be more graphic, but doesn't come near the implied civilian body-count in this game). I also love the way it has almost been conceived as "Space Invaders" in reverse, finally giving us a little sympathy for those poor descending alien marauders ... Thank you for this memory-stirring post. :-)
I was actually playing this on an emulated VIC-20 on my laptop at work when the news came through about the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center. I was showing a colleague the game, who asked me to help him play it on his PC.

Good video. I'm currently remaking this as accurately as I can for mobile devices so you can get your retro Blitz fix on the move. :)

Funny how these old arcaic games require more concentration than the latest Xbox stuff.

Search out VICE - I find it the easiest to use. The games seem to be easy to get hold of, try a google on "Vic 20 games download"
