nikkei and asians, like chinese, vietnamese and koreans, have been assimilating in japan for decades. some are raised in japan or they learn to speak perfectly, and change to a japanese name. many asians have naturalized to japanese citizenship.
I find that if you're asian, you are expected to speak Japanese there, but if you're white or anything else it is assumed that you only speak English even if you attempt to speak in Japanese.
The only way for a culture like Japan's to preserve their beliefs and way of living etc. is to do exactly as they're doing. It's all about protection and it makes sense. Non-Japanese are only guests. While guests are welcomed and served in the home, they're just not part of the family. It's when foreigners in Japan are given more rights we will see the decline of beliefs and morals the Japanese now may hold. Not only that, but Japan as a whole will change. Japan needs to stay 95% nationally and
I love so much about japan, but honestly, I like the things that make it unique, and even the attitude is part of that. Everything is a package deal to me.
@1412Bunny Indeed, teaching a class can sometimes get boring. But my students still find ways to do some pretty amusing/weird stuff. I'm usually making lots of faces and/or thrashing around like a wild animal for everyone's amusement. That keeps things interesting.
