  • This is an unbelievable movie O.O

  • @TexAngel999 Yes, acordign to the (top) critics anyway. Per Metacritic (assembler of teh top critics ratings), it is the most highly rated/acclaimed movie so far in the 21st century. Acedemy (purposely?) ominated the film in 2006 for both Best Flim and Best Foreign Film, thereby splitting the votes -- Pan's won neither.

  • so the faun was a combination of prosthetics with animatronic??? fascinating...

  • Holy crap, If I were those special effect artists while painting the costume I'd be freaked out as hell.

  • Oh yeah...this is how it's been done right. Great "old school" special effects. Nothing can replace this in terms of looks. For the film itself I feel ambivalent. On the one hand there is this great phantasy story and I like the concept of bringing the trauma of the spanish civil war into it but these two storys don't really connect that well during the film and drift side by side most of the time. Plus I don't think that some of the scenes were nessecary. It feels a little bit "half-baked".

  • @lordoid Certainly, your opinion. Contrary though with the consencus opinion of the top professional (make a living at it) movie critics of the past decade, who have rated this the top film of the 21st century so far. Get the Blu-ray and watch the director's commentary and all the special features on the DVD, and let Del Toro explain the whole vision and story to you. Brilliant.

  • @innismor11 Nahh it isn't that contrary. It just sounded a bit harsh maybee cause I'm not a native english speaker. I think overall it's a great film and I understand what del toro want's to say. But It's good to think for yourself and don't let the critics do the whole work. As I see I'm not the only one with this opinion cause the international critics also differ. Anyway...good film and I really dig the workmanship! Thx for the hint (features on the disk)!

  • @lordoid Hey, agree. Do go through all the features, including the director's commentary. Some DVD productions do not put much effort into it, and the maybe the director gets together with a couple of stars and blabs scriptless for the whole 2 hours, but not with Pan's Labyrinth. Del Toro did a great job, adn explains his use of colors and mood, and the meaning behind shapes -- all that he intended. It's good stuff. The director's (Darabont) commentary on Shawshank Redemption is good too.

  • @lordoid

well dear friend, the process of editing was made by GUILLERMO DEL TORO himself and ALEJANDRO G. INARRITU ( best director at cannes for BABEL ), and those two guys desagree with you so i'm zorry that you feel HALF-NAKED but i have to side with the 2 genius on these one and love the movie the way it is with the oscars and cannes prices and to 10 lists around the globe. tata...

  • @memofly29 Ouch ;) Don't take it too serious. It was just my opinion in terms of the script. It's a good and interesting film. The Awards seem to be important for you but then I have to say that this movie won 99percent of it for the Art Direction, makeup and camera (wich is absolutely phantastic) not for the script. But that shouldn't be a benchmark anyway. Either a film captures or speaks to you or not. And that depends on your personal, cultural background. Art is not universal.

  • @lordoid

did you jus write art is not universal, oh man!. Well i guess u are unic becouse even if the world says is god not always is but when the tru artist a cannes like it and the hollywood jerks like it and common people like it the movie must be something unic and so are you the one persent tha dislike this groundbreaking film. art is not universal "nuts".

  • the fact that the pale man was made real and not from CGI just makes me even more scared of him O_O

  • fucken great movie

  • that's amazing! how do they get him to blink and move his face in the costume?

  • @iloveyoujoex3 inside the head/face prosthetics for the Faun there were motors that moved the eyebrows, eyes, and ears, which were all controlled mechanically by puppeteers :)

  • oh my god someone's in that frog!

  • I look at this and wonder: Why are we replacing make-up with CGI? Why are we spending $300 mil for blue cat people when on $19 million Del Toro and his make-up team created far more fascinating creatures? And to top it off his creatures are REAL. They are actually interacting with the actors/actresses. CGI cannot do that. CGI should ONLY be used when make-up simply cannot accomplish the visual, but lately Hollywood has just used CGI in excess and it looks ridiculous. We need Del Toro <3

  • No actor has spent more time in makeup than Doug Jones.

  • Doug Jones is amazing. A real actor. You know the horns alone weighed ten pounds!?

  • alice in wonderland..? xD

  • Hand's down, the most beautiful movie ever made!

    (in MY opinion, at least)

  • Gotta love Doug Jones for playing the faun and the scary Pale Man xD he played Abe Sapien in Hellboy as well :D

  • on of the most fucked up movies ever made

  • How does the pale man breath? and how can he see? :O thanks :P

  • is that animatronics or masks

  • @uunanimous Animatronic masks.

  • @uunanimous Animatronic masks.

  • @uunanimous both, its a animatronic mask

  • @uunanimous obviously masks as you can see

  • @uunanimous Both,

  • para mi este es el trabajo mas perron que existe

  • How does the guy that plays Pan is moving his ears ?? It's so awesome !!!

  • @MrExtremeNoob all of the top half of pans face is mechanicly made theres puppitiers off set moving his eyebrows, eyelids and ears. hope that helped (:

  • I always loved Pan, he's such a beautiful creature.

  • unbelieveble :O

  • 5 people just got eaten by pale man.

  • impressionante., complimenti.

  • I thought it was so freaking scary.

  • It's a shame that many people completely bypass this movie for the fact that it's a foreign film. They're missing out on an amazing movie.

  • One of the reasons this film is so beautiful is because it's -real-. In any other big-budget Hollywood movie, that girl would have been acting at a little blue ball that would have later been CGed in. In this movie (as in most of del Toro's masterpieces), the creatures are -real-. They're standing there, people are talking with them, and it makes the scene seem so much more vibrant and believable. Long live special effects artists! CG will never replace them! <3

  • @TheDeathBunnie Hear! Hear! Well said!! I TOTALLY AGREE!!

  • @TheDeathBunnie I know right! Where's the art in sitting at a computer and editing a creature when you could be sitting at an art table sculpting his back feeling the clay under your fingernails literally creating a character when all you are doing with CGI technology is straining your eyes at a computer. Also its really hard for the actors and actresses to imagine a beast but if you have it infront of you you can literally see it how your character would see it

  • @TheDeathBunnie perfect special effects will one day be a comnbination of animatronics, cg and practical effects. but we really need more practical effects these days.

  • @TheDeathBunnie Agreed. Also need artists with passion for the journey and the product, rather than the almight buck. Del Toro had to forego his director's salary and then his producer's one in order to keep the project on budget. His vision was more importatn to him. He wasn't going to let go of that. He had to can In the Mountains of Madness because the studios insisted on telling him what his vision should be.

  • this movie was so amazing. it touched my heart. everytime i watch it, I have to cry a bit at the end.

  • wow. really graet job.

  • increiblemente bueníisimo !!!!

  • It's amazing that all of the creatures weren't just computer generated. I think there's something so much more magical about it.

  • wow *Q* die haben die kostüme aber echt gut gemacht!! waaaa geil XD vorallem pale man und pan XD geilsten kosrüme i love this fim <3

  • it is one of the most incredible films i have ever seen yes agreed! it stays with you its so moving.

  • I bought this on DVD last night, and watched it all the way through for the first time, and I can happily say this is a master peice, and i'm not going to spoil it for anyone i'm just going to say i loved the ending, it leaves it open for the audiance to decide what really happened to Ofelia. I'm still not sure what to think, not in a bad way just their are two things what i think might have happened. If you've watched you might know what i mean.

  • Wow i actually thought that the captain really did get his cheek sliced cause it looked so real!

  • @SOADVSSOAD wow that was so moronic!

  • @plplplplomg Hey! it looked real.

  • @SOADVSSOAD i know right. i would keep that scar and be like: you ever wonder how i got these scars??? LOL

  • What's the background music called? It's freaky ^^

  • @zeronotdu It's the movie's music, won an Oscar for best music.

  • @zeronotdu pan's labyrinth lullaby

  • @toughmenpink54 coming from a guy named toughmenpink54 wow hahahaha

  • @toughmenpink54

you have no taste, its not us, its you.

  • @toughmenpink54 it was gay?? and the plot was shit? lol u clearly dont know what a good movie is.

  • @toughmenpink54 well it sucked for you because you clearly like tough men in pink you Fag!..

  • @toughmenpink54 your shit LOL

  • God I love this damn movie! Especially Pan, he's my favorite character! ^_^

  • fuck CGI. pan's labyrinth proves that movies cud make great make up like this instead of cheap ass cg. i guess movie makers are too lazy these days to do make up anymore. now, it's all about the damn cgi. anyways, these make ups and effects are friggin sweet!! one of the best movies ever made, pan's labyrinth. well done del toro

  • @atomichead777 CG effects are as difficult as make-up, and natural lighting.

  • @liyosan i dont agree with that, it takes months to scuplt a prosthetic, prop, or costume. it takes a couple days to sculpt in cgi. thanks to james cameron, his new technology will replace makeup and practicle special effects. makeup artists and sculpters cant find anything to do right now, cus there isnt anything TO DO. cgi takes the creativity and the reality out of special effects.

  • @liyosan Actually, CGI is easier than actually creating something. Its kind of like cheating. Making something that looks real with a computer isn't as impressive as making something with your hands that looks real. It actually takes artistic talent, which not everyone has.

  • I love CGI. But traditional puppets and latex still rule!

  • This film is one of the best!

  • If you want crazy hand-made special effect go look up scenes from the movie "The Thing" (i advice you not to if you can't handle gore)

  • "Real" effects are still the best! Not like the stupid computer shit!

  • Terrific film, I would highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it.

  • Comment removed

  • The part where the Captain is yelling with his cheek sliced is the cherry on my cake.

  • @Sarahmajig Yeah! My favorite part. LOL

  • lol Pan looks a lil bit like a na'vi

  • Beautiful........and extremely creative!!

  • Great movie loved it

  • this is insane. loved this movie to death.

  • @redkitestring The people who make movie's like Pan's Labyrinth, which features an innocent little girl falling in love with Pan, are sick-minded, demonically-inspired, sexually-perverted, evil individuals as far as I'm concerned. The evidence speaks for itself. There is no downplaying the facts about Pan. The occult has always been synonymous with child exploitation.

Pan is Satan — the god of sexual deviance, rape, and torture!

  • @MsTruthbetold2010 in the director's interview he talked about how the fawn isn't actually supposed to be pan because he thought that was too sinister and dark. pan is just the direct translation. fyi...just sayin.

  • wow it looks SO real!

  • i thought these "things" were cg. o.o

    wow, theyre good.

  • lol @ the frog!

  • lol then there was nearly no cg in this movie! thought the pan, the frog, the alraune etc were fake!

  • 0:41 lol

  • Perfect movie ever.

  • i wish they would've spent more time on pan

  • Featured in this video: Everything that lives in my front yard! XD

  • wow such talent

  • i love so much this movie !! so so so so much ! cant wait to see the hobbit !! ( in case somebody doesn´t know... guillermo del toro its directing the hobbit)

  • shit that frog was real?

    thought it was CGI

  • soooo brilliant movie !

  • Excelente! Amor de la musica.

  • ahhh!! this is the exact kind of job i want to do!! be able to sculpt and make the characters!! does anybody happen to know what that is called? and how to be able to get a career like that?

  • it´s called ¨being amazingly lucky¨

i use to dream about this king of job too... its so awesome and fun!

  • that was such an amazing movie

  • so kewl

  • wish I could've gotten ahold of that pan costume for halloween lol

  • What is that clay type stuff they are using to make the faun costume out of?

  • 0:51 what heck!!!!!!???? 0_0

  • I think that was done by painting that part next to his mouth blue, and then layering on a skin colored material to make it look like that.

  • its for when the general gets cut in the mouth by Mercedes

  • Great film it was one of the scaryest horror movie i have ever seen !

  • this isnt even a horror film!

  • Epic movie, pretty weird LOL

  • Magnificent!

  • the frog is cute.....hahaha

  • Fantastic Movie

  • hawesooome. *shiver* that cannibal creature thing still freaks the crap out of me, though.

  • Yeah no shit, I just wish he was more "deadly". He's so fucking slow and has difficulty seeing anything.

  • Amazing job,fantastic film!!!!!BRAVO!!!

  • Unforgetable*

  • omg what is this movie never seen or heard of it in my life lol

    it looks awsome!

  • Pan's Labyrinth. Read the title next time lol. It's a great film

  • it wasnt on the title when i watched the vid he must have changed it! but thx anyways!!

  • Doug Jones is amazing in costume! And has great patience getting in costume!

  • Doug Jones must have some extraordinary patience to sit there time after time and endure all the costumes and makeup.

And btw..I would freak out if I had to wear that pale man costume, you can't see very well out of it I would imagine.

  • Still confused about 0:52 . Oo

  • amazing... i can't believe how people can be so creative and so perfect in visual arts..... the best artist ever!

  • This has to be one of the most phenominal movies of all time.

  • Absolutely amazing, this movie is art. In art we are doing this film making project and we had to watch movies that are considered art. And i recomended this movie to my art teacher we are watching it in class^_^

  • Stunning...

  • at least you get straight to the point

  • LOL at :41 to :43 xD This was a really good movie! ^_^

  • THAT IS FUCKING COOOL!

  • awesome movie

  • beautiful. its incredible to see such artistic vision come to life

  • These special effects are INSANE!!!

    thaxs 4 posting this... :)!

  • best movie ever

  • I love the Pan costume. But Doug must have gone through hell and back putting it on and taking it off, for 5 to 6 hours a day.

  • watch?v=l4-ezbp-7Gc&feature=related

  • you have to feel bad for doug jones.his career is being measured by the hours in a make up chair.

  • he plays these creatures because of his unique ability to move with such elegance and grace. its as if he's completely consious of every joint in his body. he's almost like a puppeteer. its not only the costume that makes an incredible character.

  • well i want to see him do some acting as a man. he has that quality .he can't be a "beautiful creature" forever. he will want more if he already doesn't.

  • this film is pretty awesome. creative and imaginative. blended the real world with the fairy tale world perfectly. good job guillermo!
