trip hop is wayyyyyy better then rap and hip hop, more so because of how the latter 2 are just commercialized gimmicks to get money from dumb, young americans nowadays, plus they dont have the good music to go along with the lyrics.
Robert Del Naja knows how to dance. So does Daddy G. It's a good thing they got rid of Mushroom. He was cramping their style. I heard the little twit tried to leak their lyrics to madonna. He also disagreed on the direction of the band. **hint** - Not trip hop - hip hop. What did he really do anyway, besides appear in their videos. He's just like that other guy from the prodigy, think is name is Leroy.
The other day, my sister tells me the reason she listens to most music such as hip-hop, rap, R&B, and mainstream stuff such as Lady Gaga, justin bieber, usher, and chris brown, is because - and get this- she listens to their interviews, not their lyrics. How stupid is that? That is how she introduces herself to their music. The funny thing around here is she makes funny of my taste in other music like massive attack, and when I make retorts to her music, I get in trouble. What a world!
@fealty01 i highly doubt she listens to hip hop, rather hip pop. hip hop is a beautiful form of music. and R&B as well, she probably listens to the watered down crap....just like how nelly furtado used to be called ''trip hop'' at one point.....there's good, and there's watered down and terrible. don't group them together.
I saw them in Montreal in October ... these guys are the best ever, I can't think of anyone that even comes close ... Pink Floyd at their very best maybe
It is strange seeing them actually perform this piece. My imagination is usually sparked from simply listening to it. It creates pictures in my mind. The best thing about this vid is the flashing bokeh'd lights. Seeing the mole on his chin isn't something I really care to think about. The video does serve to confirm, as if I needed it, their skill and orchestral excellence.
@ugn669 there amazing live, they play everything on live instruments, pretty amazing, considering there first album was done mainly hip hop style with sample and little live instrumentation. you have to go see them (if you havent already)
Two very sexy guys performing a very sexy song. And they're NOT in my room which means I can't have sex with them! That's not fair you know.....you should'nt be allowed to do sexy songs like that when you can't have sex with the people who are listeing to it !
Mushroom was a huge part of this album, i dont know why but it seems daddy g and del naja have some bitterness with the music but thats just me,they know there music is brilliant there really enjoying it thats all that matters, there amazing live they blow your mind away
for all that talk about the bassline. Yeah it is different but it just sounds like he is sliding to the last note.
Regardless... it sounds great. Live music is fantastic and it is awesome that Massive Attack sounds great in the studio and live. Improvisation is a great thing.
The bass beat, has changed from: Doom Doom Doom....Doom Doom....Dooooom Do-Do-Do...Do-Do Doom Doom Doom....Doom Doom....Dooooom
To: Doom Doom Doom....Doom DoommmmmmmmmmmMDooooooooom Mdoo-Mdoo Doom Doom Doom....Doom DoommmmmmmmmmMDoooooooom
The fifth "Doom" blends into long bass sound which accends up to the sixth "Doom" and the "Do-Do-Do...Do-Do" from the original has changed to "Mdoo-Mdoo" With the long bass sound, before the beat. If you know what I mean lol
If you listen to the original, the bass is highly recognisable, also more drum performance and guitar, distortion, 4:20... I believe 3D had experimented alot more during this live performance, it sounded less dark and moody a more varied performance. I LIKE IT!
3D obviously has remixed this live using the Kaoss Pad, as it is different from the mezzanine album, the start Wow Wow Wow Wow...
Is different, and throughout the song there are more lighter ambient sounds from the Kaoss Pad that you can here, these pushed the dominance of the bass sounds in the background.

kaoss pad. think he uses it to give his voice that droning quality on the "my soul's coming round" bit. but he also seems to be fiddling with it during the instrumental bits, so i dunno.

Massive Attack is always so atmospheric, dark, lush, beautiful. But for me this song is DAMN SEXY too. I love the song Mezzanine -- I think it's rather underrated.
This song reminds me of the layout of my college building back in the day, it was a spiral of mezzanine floors which sort of looped back in places, arranged around a central staircase, but with others elsewhere. It took me a couple of weeks to learn how it was put together. The architect must have set himself a challenge to make a building entirely out of mezzanine floors. I always had the song in my head when walking around. Happy memories.
