I think the prosthetic limbs probably give him an unfair advantage, unless someone can prove me wrong with a scientific study. But I haven't seen any on this.
Everyone's going to hate me for this but...I feel like an unfair advantage would be that prosthetic limbs can't get tired unless they break, which they probably won't during a race. I like that he has been given the ability to run again but I probably wouldn't feel okay with it if I were racing agains him in the olympics. I probably wouldn't do anything about it though.

This is a very inspiring story, but personally I'd prefer it if they'd keep the Olympics and Paralympics separate. Looking at the future, it is only a matter of time (and not that much time) before prosthetics actually bring along an advantage. (A dog's "knee" is actually it's ankle) This all results in much more "spring" as they say. As an Exercise Physiologist, it's awesome to see someone like this doing the things he does; however, his Cheetahs are a huge advantage in running.

Sorry to disagree with Oscar, but prosthetics could be an unfair advantage in a race vs those with full human legs. He may feel it's unfair, but it's a perfectly valid position.
@MadyWolfe Simple: technology can surpass human limits. I'm not saying it's easy or painless for him, it's the fact that normal body parts are being substituted for artificial parts that don't tire and are not subject to stamina. It is however, perfectly arguable that his hamstrings, which do all the major pulling work (the leg is actually doing more pulling when you sprint, not pushing) in sprinting in the first place, are being worked all the same/similar even if he had normal human legs.
@mobius1aic i tend to disagree, at least technology hasn't yet surpass human limits. i can understand if we are looking at two fully bionic limbs, that are taking the human work out of running and doing it all for you, but that technology hasn't been perfected for speed just yet. and besides, he only has a prosthetic foot, that isn't doing any of the real work for him. that foot can't be conditioned to be any better than it is, and his body has to work harder to move that dead weight

People who think he gets an unfair advantage with these legs are absolute dumbasses. The only way those flex feet could give someone an advantage is if they were worn by someone who has legs, then they have the advantage of their own plus the prosthetics. They have tested their ability to return force and found they only return 80% of the force applied compared to the 200% of a human leg.
The flex feet absorb more energy than they return, whereas the opposite is true with the human leg and this is because the flex feet do NOT simulate the forward flexing of the foot with the calf muscle. They would be comparable to an able-bodied runner not being able to flex their foot forward, pointing the toes and propelling off of the back leg with the calf muscles. They may bounce slightly, but in no way is this bounce as powerful as the forward flexing of a human foot with the calf muscle.
this gave advantages on races little bit longer than 100m... because the Gastrocnemius muscle (on people who have it) start to build up lactic acid wich decrease very much the performance (reaction time, and force aplied), and in case of Pistorius his reaction time on "foot" in each step and the force he applies on the ground keeps constant, wich make him catch the others guy on the end of the race.
Pay attention to :54 - :56 seconds. His fake legs have spring to them just walking, imagine the spring action when hes running. Now take someone who has legs, when we walk, our legs and muscles absorb the impact, giving us no spring. But Oscars fake legs absorb the impact by bending a little, which in turn gives him a spring foward.

I say he has an advantage because if you pay attention to the prosthetic legs, they have a bounce to them. When he runs, each time his fake legs touch the ground, they spring him foward a little. They would have to have some bounce to absorb the impact of the ground. And also, he can't get leg cramps, muslce aches or anything.
Hamstrings are the most important muscles in sprinting, what do you mean he can't get cramps or pains? He's not a robot, he still gets tired. If anything, he can't use his calves to help him.
ofc they give him an advantage, his prosthetics are springier than human legs which give him an extra force forward. They even sell "spring" shoes for kids now, so they can 'Run faster and jump higher' !
Imagine running without calf muscles,, the the thighs will have to compensate,, and that is what takes training , dedication , and balance of energy application.
Go Oscar ,, and lets hope others will also use similar technology.

@mobius1aic i tend to disagree, at least technology hasn't yet surpass human limits. i can understand if we are looking at two fully bionic limbs, that are taking the human work out of running and doing it all for you, but that technology hasn't been perfected for speed just yet. and besides, he only has a prosthetic foot, that isn't doing any of the real work for him. that foot can't be conditioned to be any better than it is, and his body has to work harder to move that dead weight

People who think he gets an unfair advantage with these legs are absolute dumbasses. The only way those flex feet could give someone an advantage is if they were worn by someone who has legs, then they have the advantage of their own plus the prosthetics. They have tested their ability to return force and found they only return 80% of the force applied compared to the 200% of a human leg.

The flex feet absorb more energy than they return, whereas the opposite is true with the human leg and this is because the flex feet do NOT simulate the forward flexing of the foot with the calf muscle. They would be comparable to an able-bodied runner not being able to flex their foot forward, pointing the toes and propelling off of the back leg with the calf muscles. They may bounce slightly, but in no way is this bounce as powerful as the forward flexing of a human foot with the calf muscle.

this gave advantages on races little bit longer than 100m... because the Gastrocnemius muscle (on people who have it) start to build up lactic acid wich decrease very much the performance (reaction time, and force aplied), and in case of Pistorius his reaction time on "foot" in each step and the force he applies on the ground keeps constant, wich make him catch the others guy on the end of the race.

Pay attention to :54 - :56 seconds. His fake legs have spring to them just walking, imagine the spring action when hes running. Now take someone who has legs, when we walk, our legs and muscles absorb the impact, giving us no spring. But Oscars fake legs absorb the impact by bending a little, which in turn gives him a spring foward.

I agree that he has an advantage over other running athletes.. The fact he has no legs does not play in any part in this. I say he has an advantage because if you pay attention to the prosthetic legs, they have a bounce to them. When he runs, each time his fake legs touch the ground, they spring him foward a little. They would have to have some bounce to absorb the impact of the ground. And also, he can't get leg cramps, muslce aches or anything.
