does this work in other sports as well such as throwing a baseball, boxing, or soccer? Its been months for me to find the answer in weight shifting. This video seems to be the most insightful tutorials on weight shift ever!
Tried copying your swing tonight hit some great shots with lots of distance I always felt my arms got behind me in the backswing, I see you keep your arms out in front while turning the body and when I got my body out of the way it worked really well it felt totally different, should I also feel that the left arm brings the club down while my body gets out of the way to prevent coming over the top? thanks for your advice you truly are a great teacher.
@eddiebutt1 Thanks Eddie; the best video for this is called "arms and body timing; shawn clement" as well as "stop crashing; shawn clement"; the body is a gravity expert and when it feels the weight of the arms swinging freely from the shoulder sockets, it knows instinctively how to get out of the way; try the drill in that video and you will understand what I mean; Shawn
@eddiebutt1 Hey Eddie; OK man, I have seen what you have "favourited" in the golf swing with the x-factor swing coaches and if you only knew how the spine was actually made and why it was made this way and how the human body was wired from over 2 million years of evolution, you would completely change your tune; you are a gravity based machine that responds to weight; arm and club swings and body responds and gets out of the way; it was wired to do this AUTOMATICALLY out of self preservation!
Hi Shawn, Love the videos. I am having a real problem with the driver, even though I am hitting my irons & woods very well. I think I rocking backwards and putting most my weight on the right foot (right handed). As I follow through I am literally falling backwards with a very pronounced chicken wing.I am sure my tempo is an issue, as I swing quite fast. It is at the point were I just cannot take my driver out of the bag on the course.Keep up the good work, you have many followers in the Uk
damn shawn, loooovvvve the sound of that impact !! effortlessly superb and sweet :-) bought your dvds, watched almost all of your youtube videos, over and over and over ..... but still can't create that consistent solid contact like you. are you taking some vitamins or something that makes your foundation super solid all the time??? :-) oh btw...where/how is steve (that korean kid w/ that beautiful swing) now? if only i could immitate his swing...mannnn..
Hi Shawn, I used to have a bit problem of losing my spine angle on the downswing but seem to have pretty much gotten rid of it, however from DTL on video my rear end, if there was a vertical line on it at address would still just move slightly off it towards the ball. My question is, should i feel as though on the downswing my weight shifts towards my left heel? as when i do this i dont move away from the line, but i dont want to do this if it will cause other problems!! Keep up the gr8 vids!!
Have a look at my "golf pro lesson downswing weightshift" and "golf pro lesson get more power and club speed" it will demonstrate how important it is to allow for that squat in the downswing to prepare for that explosion to the target! See also golf pro lesson the insanity of golf" (target focus) and "golf pro lesson tilted twirl" for the expansiveness of the arm swing to the target! Shawn
Gday Shawn, this is a great video. Everyone should watch it!! I have been golfing for around 9 months now. Can you believe I paid money for a coach to teach me to deliberately shift weight!! Had me digging holes before the ball cos I couldn't get forward of the ball fast enough. Obviously, NO LAG!!! Awesome, sensible instruction from you. Many Thanks!! Cheers, Steve.
Have a look at my "golf pro lesson downswing weightshift" and "golf pro lesson hogan power drill"; they will help deepen your understanding in feeling the shift in pressure; Shawn
Hi, Shawn I have been golfing for about eight weeks. I have been watching your videos for the same amount of time. I have been telling everyone that I have played with about your videos and what a great instruction that they have. I have be playing with my Dad who is 81 years young and love beating every time out.
I have progressed much thanks to you and your great instruction Matt
Thanks Matt! I appreciate the great comment! It is great that you are able to share this great game with Family; I am enjoying getting out with my Wife, Son and Daughter every chance I get! Shawn
shawn or anyone.can you tell me if i should get a taylormade burner 2008version for 170euro or should i get the taylormade r7 for 80euro off my friend?thanks
Hi, after watching a few of your videos i think from what i can see, that your right leg and knee straightens on the backswing, i was wondering if this is ok? as my coach is always correcting me when i straighten it.... cheers
The right leg must extend a bit; it is necessary for a proper hip turn; see my "Golf Pro Lesson Head Bobble" video for info on it; Thanks for your very valid question! Shawn
Hey, just wanted to say thankyou for these videos you have made this particular video and the short chipping video have improved my handicap from 7 to 4 so thanks once again.
hi do u know the way u said to move your head with the swing i was told to keep my head in the same place in the swing to keep proper spine angle and i was just wondering if it's true
if you are doing an out to in swing and you are told that you are not doing enough hip rotation and if u do the proper hip rotation it will go along the same plane??
i think you're an engineer of golf swing... you could explain it all logically and easy to understand. I will get your dvd soon. BTW, Iam from Indonesia, will find a way to get your dvd.
The analogy when you talk about us that exercise in the gym, could that be used as a balance drill?
I tried only 40 pounds on my shoulders yesterday in the gym, and turned and returned just like a swing. It was really forcing me to stay in balance throughout, or else I would have to use a lot of effort or fall over.
Shawn - is there a feeling at the top of your backswing that your body wants to naturally "fall" back into your left side? That is, due to the momentum of the club going back, there is a pressure on the inside of your right foot. As the club reaches it's peak in the backswing, that pressure is "released" by "falling" back onto your left side and then your rotate through the ball. Sound about right or am I way off? Chris PS - I'm enjoying the CD immensely.
Shawn - for the first time, I understand "weight shift". Great stuff !!. Question: I've had lessons this past winter where the instructor had me swing with a beach ball between my knees to quiet my lower body. I've also seen very quiet, "stable" lower bodies of the pros in Golf Digest. You seem to have pretty active legs. Can you comment on this apparent contradiction? PS - looking forward to getting your DVD this week.
Your question have an realy simple answer, you should never put your weight on your heels, because you loose balance, but yes, you should have your weight on the inside of your right foot. I hope this is answer enough for you. Good luck with your golf 2008.
When you perform the hands on hips motion you feel weight moving to the right heel and weight on the front portion of the left foot. So I think Shawn has to make this clear.
Shawn, you really make things clear. Cannot wait to go an try out the tips you gave! You are a really great instructor!thanks so much for sharing this stuff.
Have looked at lots and lots of different golf tips by various instructors, and must admit your instruction is one of the best for all your videos on youtube. Well Done.
If I was in the US I sure would take a lesson with you.
I think this is a great video. I never really made the connection about maintaining a 50-50 balance during my backswing and letting my arms make up the difference; I was always overcompensating and... well... just not hitting the ball well. Thanks!
Excellent presentation Shawn. I will be checking back. In line with this, could you perhaps provide some help on the dreaded "transition move" or do you feel if one is swinging properly this will occur naturally. Thanks again.
Hello and thank you for your kind words; This is a very important question that I will answer with another video; it should be up in the next couple of days; stay tuned!
