@Lonsoleil Historically there are not any accounts of Octavian having sex with Octavia. They took considerable liberties with some of the content in Rome for HBO's typical "shock value" they put in so many of their shows.
ugh the EXACT thing that happened with him and anotony happened with my mom n her husband. it was uncanny. except i didnt call her a whore or spend a lot of money :P i wish i could do something more about it like octavian but :P i dont have an army etc
I love Octavian as a character in this series. He always looks like he knows what he's doing. Even when he allowed himself to be seduced by his sister he knew she had an ulterior motive. I don't mind the song. It is a nice contrast to Octavian's cool and restrained personality (at least as shown on Rome).
OMG! I just had the greates idea! Someone should make a vid about Livia and Octavian and use "Closer" by Nine Inch Nails!!!!! Its not even funny how much that song relates to them!!!!!!!!!!! xD :D
But this a GREAT vid too, i love Octavian! Not only is he smart but he's also very handsome and good looking :)

@TheAlmostAngel Hey, thanks. I would make a video but I can't get the video (uncensored) until I travel to the UK or the US or something. They show Rome where I live but even the kisses are edited (however the violent scenes are acepted O_O ).
Octavian probably my favorite historical figure, and Rome was a great T.V. series, gotta love both Caesars, Julius and Augustus. I love how his brilliance shines in this show, he was a masterful leader.
Giaus Octavian is really an awesome character. Cleopatra really changed since her first appearance. It's sad to see what she became and why she killed herself.
Urrrgh, I prefered the young Octavian, the older one gets on my nerves; he's so cold and even more blatantly manipulative than his so-called "father" !
My favourite is Vorenus, hands down ^^ Very nicely constructed video (though the Evanescence singer has much too much of a melodious voice to sound good in this kind of song xD)
Hmm, I'd say yes and no- while I find the older Octavian's acting to be quite stiff and completely lacking the intelligent mischief of his younger counterpart, I still think he makes a good "twisted, power-hungry, over-intelligent" leader. He's cold, he's eager, and he's trying to put into action all that he's learnt from the ancients; popularity isn't his main concern, I think. But still, the actor's icy!
(there's also the SM sex scene with his wife xD PERFECT acting. "I like birds...")
The younger one is a way better actor. I doubt the real Octavian was that cold, but I read that they think Octavian's Myer's Briggs personality type was INTJ or "Mastermind" personality which is the coldest, most logical one there is out of the 16 types. I think he was motivated by what had to be done, not so much by fame. What a great leader. I bet he would think Obama and Bush are terrible leaders
@DracoMalfoy87 The actor perfectly captures the qualities of Octavian's character. Clever, cold, capable, ruthless - prepared to wait patiently for the perfect opportunity for revenge.
@ libertyaction. who posted. loving all the rome videos on you-tube. ur right what an awesome 2 series. sex, drugs, scandals and sandals, lol. defo 1 of my favs. hoping thyll make a 3rd,but wont b the same without mark anthony. it looked like vorenus died at the end but he could survive 4 a 3rd series PLSSSSS. send me more vids if u make them pls...thanksx
Octavian according to the histories I've read and studied was not just a politician, he was a master politician. He knew how to win the loyalty of the army (far far far better than Antony ever could), plus he knew how to wield power, even better than his adopted Father. He was not a general, not interested in conquest for the sake of conquest. He brought peace to a republic at civil war (on and off) for about a hundred years or so. Truly a great leader.
@Mrblancnoir he was able to consolidate all the power in rome. he held the authority of every position in the senate, controlled every providence in the empire and commaned the enitre army.
he was granted the civic crown and power over all the proconsuls. meaning every providence was his to oversee. after his consulship he was considered "imperium" and control the entire army. He slowly took on the power of every office in the senate without officially claiming it - all was given to him by the senate. he was named pater patriae "father of our country" and titled Augustus and Precep - the revered one.
A statesman? How, when he wasn't capable of defending his conquers? The major task awaits you after the victory. To win a crown is one thing, to keep it an other.
Great personalities are always a little different. They think outside of the box. For men like this concepts of good and evil are like farie tales and pixie dust. Octavian balanced that out with piety and a brutish sense of fairness. I wish we had men of vision like this in today's America...too bad TV and media ruin it. They make it near impossible with the niddy-griddy giving people more information that is sometimes false or just unrepresentative of whats really going on in a leader.
I love this video, it's so well done! I used to favor Octavian before seeing Rome, James Purefoy, the guy who plays Anthony is just too good, he Is Mark Anthony!
I don't think so. One way or another the Republic would have fallen, Rome would have easily survived. The real key was that the Republic fell into Augustus' hands, not some near sighted fool.
I disagree with you there. There were many other great romans who could have (if they worked together) achieved what Octavian achieved. He had his achievements but you cant ignore that he was there at the right time and had a very large inheritance
Pity our masters and betters won't allow a modern Augustus to shape the U.S.A and the Western world the way Augustus brought peace and stability to Rome in times of turmoil and chaos.
Uhm. I kinda see a difference between Octavian and George W Bush. Very subtle but you might recognize it. And the U.S is pretty much run by those that don't care if it survives at all. Octavian at least had the right priorities.
Well they were both in absolute command of their empires and immune from any justice. They both acted with impunity. At least the Romans had the ability to violently and legitimately despatch their tyrants and despots.
Well their overextending themselves now. They only control Iraqs oil and thats not going to last forever. They would do well to start bowing down a bit more to the Chinese and Russians, its their time now. The Chinese are so superior economically that they dont need to be military superior. Even though all they would have to do is stamp their feet and they would annihilate the rest of the world.
The chinese economy is overrated, and very dependant on the western and US economy. All the west or the us has to do is stamp their feet and china and the world would also be annihilated. Western strengt isn't really economics though we rank first in the world, or military, even though our armies are the strongest. It is our beliefs, china is a tolitarian state and a democracy does not bow to tolitarianism. Even if the west were to fall our faliures would still outshine the PRCs successes.
It's always anoying when they change an actor playing a character especially mid-serise and he's a main character as well. All the more so when they look so different. Still the curly haired boy could'nt have pulled it off like the guy with stairing eyes.
man i loved this series but i didnt lik how it ended i meen from the first episode i was looking foward to Octavian being pronounced emperor of the roman empire and having his name changed to Augustus but they didnt show it!!! it onli went up to his victory over Antony?!?!?!? i meen to me it wouldve been an important scene cause it kinda shows how Octavian finishes wat Julius Caesar was not able to fulfill
well thats true u do hav a point but i do think it needed to be shown, its a defining moment in his life and its a title that truly shows his transistion- afterall history doesnt remember him as Octavian but as Augustus. The best line he ever had said in that show was the morning of Caesar's funeral, when he was in bed and said "I will not rise from this bed until i've fucked something!" I was like hell yes! Lol.
Ofcourse Illyria was situated in ancient times...precisely where Croatia, even Bosnia Serbia and Slovenia are located today. Croats and other slavs didnt arrive in the balkans until after the 6 century A.D

- It looked that nobody could save Rome in that bad age...Octavian did!
-Pax Romana - pact of 200 years long peace
-creator of Praetorian guard.... he was first and last one Imperator, who could count with real loyalty of PG
-rebuilt a town - using marble
Minuses - bloodlust
-not a good war leader
-often ill

Indeed. I was only sad that they left it at two seasons. When there is SO much more in Roman history that is definately worthy of HBO.

The best line he ever had said in that show was the morning of Caesar's funeral, when he was in bed and said "I will not rise from this bed until i've fucked something!" I was like hell yes! Lol.

You do realise Illyria is modern day Croatia right?
ssj4sesshoumaru1389 3 years ago
Ofcourse Illyria was situated in ancient times...precisely where Croatia, even Bosnia Serbia and Slovenia are located today. Croats and other slavs didnt arrive in the balkans until after the 6 century A.D
So what exactly is your point?

this was very well done. Congrats.
you might want to let the last scene play out for 2-3 more seconds so that we see octavian sitting and looking out from the throne :)
