I sometimes recycle junk cars but everything I've ever taken is was just that, junk. I saw several "Cash for Clunkers" victims - cars that looked even better than the one I was driving - hauled in to be crushed.

The sad part of that whole program is that there are thousands out there who could have used those cars. Sure, some were truly junk, but many of them could have been donated to help the less fortunate - and could've helped them get back on their feet.

The next generation of cars are so complicated, owners cannot repair them. They can't handle 5 mph collisions and need towing and resetting of fuel line, airbags and electric circuit each time. The fire brigade present for leaking and exploding batteries.

They won't run without a software update each year at a ever increasing price.

After 10 years software updates will seize, and you have to pay another 2000,- to have your perfectly maintained car crushed because of the toxic batteries.

Yes it will make the percentage of vehicles on the road more efficient, but why dispose of perfectly good vehicles when they could just as easily have been donated to families/people in need or cars for kidneys etc? I have no argument against the fact that this program is a waste. There could be many possible places that the vehicles could be donated.  But this car in particular was not a good car. It had a dead miss on one the cylinders and was burning and leaking quite a bit of oil. ...It needed to be put down.
