@BuckyCap It just looks different than i have mine set up. the cymbals are really high up on the rod. I guess some people just like their shit set up a certain way. Not dogging it, just saying.
thats exactly my most liked drum sound :)... that loud and cracking snare, these deep and voluminous toms, and of course these bright and cutting cymbals! great! :)
@BrothersTV1 I'm pretty sure he has a double bass peddle. He's alternating btwn two hits on snare or tom and two hits on the kick. It sounds really fancy, but it just takes a little practice. A similar effect can be accomplished with a single pedal using triplets.
@abdeno100 no one can say when you become like this becouse no one on the internet have heard how you play I becamed like that in one and a half year if you are talented you can do it in this time or less but to most pepole it comes never becouse they say that its to dificult and they won't play again.... keep up practice and everithing can happen! i would sure use drum tab (not notation its more difficult to understand the beat from it) to get every fill right takes a lot of time to learn it "by ear"
@XD13011 The toms aren't sonor. The entire drum kit is yamaha, including snares. From what I can tell Schroeder is playing a yamaha copper snare in this video.
I'm 90% sure they are Coated G2's, that's what Jared said he uses in the drum tuning live lesson, so I'd assume they are the same when Schroeder plays that kit.
regarding the fill at 2:55, i can't find where to insert the left foot into the mix. can u help me understand? Love what u guys do there, lookin forward to more... keep rockin!!!
well the toms, kick, and snare sound amazing, but i know the cymbals are high quality, but they sound terrible.. i have two of those cymbals, and they sound way better in person than they do in this video!
hey people i have just started learning the drums, when i try do a diffrent beat with my leg on the bass drum to my right hand on the high hat i automaticly do the same beat with my right hand as my foot on the drum bass, (if that makes sence) is this normal for a bigginer? will i be able to overcome it cause its really annoying!!!
Off the top if my head, I can recall what the BPM is at. But you can download Audacity (freeware) and sync up a click. It's a really easy program to use too.
man it's cool but i would rather do this and add straight 16th note fills before the chorus, and add some double bass definetely. but thats just me. otherwise, pretty cool man
That's cool. Yeah, we took a lot of meticulous attention in writing the songs so that no one in the band was really overplaying on top of someone else. If you have a chance, hit up free drum lessons and download the track without drums and post how you would have done the song.
I am really stoked to start drumming! Ever since I discovered FDL, I got more and more excited to play. Now, I've finally decided to get a drum set.
However, since I stand in awe each time I see you play this set, I'm very curious to know from which parts it is comprised. Do you know, and if so, could you please also list the price of each piece (or the set as a whole).
Lastly, as a beginner, do you think I need such a sophisticated drum kit?
Well, I don't think you need a kit like this. (After all the drums/hardware/cymbals you're looking at over $8000) I would say get into an offshore made maple or birch kit. Sonor 2007/3007 - Yamaha Stage or Tour Custom. That kind of idea. Then add your cymbals and maybe a few extras and you'll probably be somewhere between $1500-$2500 depending on the accessories. You can get cheaper kits too. The best kit for under $1000 would be a pearl forum. Let me know if you have more ???s.
Hi dude i got my first set A good beginner set would consist of Hi hat,Bass drum,2 crashes 14' and 16' doesn't matter though a ride cymbal snare Hi tom mid tom floor tom.that's what my set has and that's all I need it can get intimidating and confusing playing on a huge set.I got mine from a family member for 200 but it's worth a lot more it's a pearl.
@keyetax - They're 16ths. The song (if I remember correctly) is at about 100bpm so if you're breaking the subdivisions down, I'm playing 16ths. Good eye daxwax1.
I can understand why you might think that... but those are definitely not 16ths mate. The last lot over the toms sound like 32nds... but the strokes on the snare sound more like 32nd triplets... I don't know??? Count them out... insane fill!
NICE DUDE . . been playing drums for about 3 months now in a band called Hedway. . we got a couple vids on here check us out if you want. . but MAN YOU ARE GOOD thats the exact style i want to have
You are so good at drums! xD i have been playing drums for about 4 years now and this is exactly what i want to be able to play. All that i have is a really standard drumset so i only have the 14'' hi-hat, the snare drum, the bass drum, the two tom toms, the floor tom-tom, and an 18'' crash/ride cymbal. I am hoping to get more on my drumset so i can start playing more "involved songs".
I'm really not a technical rudiments kinda guy. I'm far more concerned with groove. But I am working through Benny Greb's DVD that came out early this year. It uses a system that cover a lot of the basic rudiments, but in a way that takes it at a musicality point of view.
All of the above. Everything contributes to how a kit sounds when recorded. The drums themselves, the mics, skins, tuning, compressors, gates, EQ, the engineer and even how the drummer plays can have a big effect on the final product.
Whats the name of the drums next to hes right leg? theres 2 of them.
I want to learn drumming, but I aint too sure what beginner Drum Kit to go for any help please? nothing too expensive please £300 maximum for a beginner please.
They're called floor toms. Unfortunately Shogun777's comment isn't quite accurate. Typically, most kits will have 5 drums. Snare drum, two suspended toms ( 2 up), 1 floor tom (1 down) and a bass drum. Though with configurations evolving, there are lots of options now with 1up/1down, 1up/2down. With higher end kits you can really do what you want. I would check out your local music shop in London. I don't know how different the inexpensive gear is there. Let me know what you find.
Thanks for the more detailed part :-) So what is needed for a basic beginner set? I know I need, Snare, Base/Bass(what ever spelling), Hi-Hat, Crash.. What else?
Hi-hats, Crash, Ride (sometimes optional 2nd crash or splash)
Hardware to match (Hi-hat stand, 2 cymbal stands, snare stand and bass drum pedal)
The thrones (seat) are usually separate from the kit so that way you can buy what you like or what you can afford. One of the easiest kits is the Pearl Forum. They come with everything you need to play. But there are cheaper alternatives.
hey anyone wanna help me, im new enough at drumming that im lost, i ripped my bass drum head and does anyone know any good places that i can buy a replacement cheap, because Sam Ash costs too much for me
Unfortunately, good heads cost money. You can ask if they carry Remo Encore skins. They're factory second skins that remo sells. Some places carry them, some don't, but you can get a bass drum skin for $35 or so as opposed to $50 or $60.
When a listener hear sa tom fill, are they supposed to go left to right? Or right to, left. Naturaly as I see the video, the tom sounds on oposite sides of what I see. I mix music and assume that they should go form left to right. Because it aides the listener. And tips?
I can't remember all of them. These videos are coming up on 2 years old. I know the Kick was a Shure beta 52, and the toms were Sennheiser 421's. The overheads look like they might be AKG 414's.... but I'm not sure. Shure SM 57 on the snare (top and bottom).
What I really love about you is how your drumming isnt ridiculously complex but compliments the song perfectly. I easily prefer this to someone wailing really fast.
Nice im a drummer to

Well, I don't think you need a kit like this. (After all the drums/hardware/cymbals you're looking at over $8000) I would say get into an offshore made maple or birch kit. When a listener hear sa tom fill, are they supposed to go left to right? Or right to, left. Naturaly as I see the video, the tom sounds on oposite sides of what I see. I mix music and assume that they should go form left to right. Because it aides the listener. And tips?

Clean..... love that hi hat swell and shut.... too sweet. You make this look way too easy. Nice job! Makes we want to practice even more.

hey man, i was wondering what mics you use in all of these videos?
NCPanthers12 2 years ago
I can't remember all of them. These videos are coming up on 2 years old. I know the Kick was a Shure beta 52, and the toms were Sennheiser 421's. The overheads look like they might be AKG 414's.... but I'm not sure. Shure SM 57 on the snare (top and bottom).

What I really love about you is how your drumming isnt ridiculously complex but compliments the song perfectly. I easily prefer this to someone wailing really fast.
Great Job!! :)

Great drumming once again, awesome mix as well. Really digging the hihat sound, sounds JUST right :)
You've really found the balance between song support and experiment. Many drummers have problems finding that balance. Great work!

Are you playing the hihat completely open or just loose? I can't tell. Sounds great anyway
Bobman111222 2 years ago
Well, it's a bit of both. I don't usually have the hats too far apart when they're fully open and I make sure that they can slosh a bit too.
