Clyde Drexler is only second to MJ. DREXLER could have won 3 rings. Blazers were best regular season team to start the 90's. definatly should have won titles in 90 and 92'. instead he got one with Hakeem. WE LOVE YOU GLIDE!! GO BLAZERS.
Almost all of his points were on fastbreaks and broken plays or bad gambles by the defender. I think there was only that one lowpost move that showed any semblance of a tough score.

But during games, he had some of the most spectacular slam dunks in history (jumping over people's heads in college; dunking from close to the foul line during games). He was no slouch. It's a matter of preferance, and some people prefer Drexler (or Dr. J, or Vince Carter, etc.).

Durin Drexler's yrs in portland the only 2 times did someone on his team avg 10+rpg Buck in 93-94 & Kenny Carr in 86-87 (plus he only played 49 games that season). Most of his season in portland the leadin rebounder avg'd 8+rpg. In houston Hakeem didn't avg up to 11rpg those seasons. Barkley did avg 13.5rpg in 96-97 but only played 53 games.

Watched Michael Jordan hundreds of times, too. Don't trust me, though: Mychal Thompson said Clyde was as good a passer as Magic, Isiah or Larry. Rick Adelman said CD was second only to Magic. Steve Jones, Robert Horry, Danny Ainge, Jack Ramsay, Bill Walton, Rudy T., these guys all praised Drexler's passing.

I'm a huge Clyde Drexler fan, but I'll be the first to admit that Jordan was best player I've ever seen. Only Hakeem in 1994 and 1995 comes close, and that was only for two years.
He was also the most amazing player I've ever seen, partly because of his athleticism but also his drive. He had the best "motor" of any player I've ever seen, whereas Clyde tended to conserve energy at times.

Drexler definitely lit up MJ a few times in this game, hard even for the GOAT to always shut down a superstar like Drexler. But MJ had 52 pts, 8 reb, 3 ast, 2 stl, and 3 blk on 21-34 FG in this game alone (despite the desperation shots at the end), so it's not like he got dominated.

The thing about DVD's "size" B/S is that most of Clyde scores in this video are due to just lousy transition defence by MJ, and too much time arguing with refs and trying to be Deion in the open court intercepting everything. Jordan had more poster dunks then Drexler did in their careers. More prolific rebounder? Jordan career rpg 6.2>6.1. Drexler does have a .3 higher apg but Jordan shot the ball way more than Drexler did & Jordan only had a .3 apg off so if he decided to cut down on his shots pg he would have a higher apg.

But during games, he had some of the most spectacular slam dunks in history (jumping over people's heads in college; dunking from close to the foul line during games). He was no slouch. It's a matter of preferance, and some people prefer Drexler (or Dr. J, or Vince Carter, etc.).

@badpdx From 86-87 - 87-88 Jordan played with Oakley who avg'd 13+rpg & then from 95-96 - 97-98 he played arguably the best rebounder of all time Rodman. Durin Drexler's yrs in portland the only 2 times did someone on his team avg 10+rpg Buck in 93-94 & Kenny Carr in 86-87 (plus he only played 49 games that season). Most of his season in portland the leadin rebounder avg'd 8+rpg. In houston Hakeem didn't avg up to 11rpg those seasons. Barkley did avg 13.5rpg in 96-97 but only played 53 games.

He was actually more explosive (many, many NBA experts agree that Clyde's second and third step were as explosive as anyone's in NBA history). During the 1992 All-Star game, Mike Fratello and Dick Enberg debated who covered more ground at full speed, Drexler or Pippen. Jordan wasn't in the conversation. Jordan had a higher vertical leap, but Drexler was up around 40 inches.

BTW, Jordan was the best player of all time. That doesn't mean he was better at everything than everybody else who ever played. Drexler was a better passer, better rebounder, and better pure athlete. That takes nothing away from MJ.

Watched Michael Jordan hundreds of times, too. Don't trust me, though: Mychal Thompson said Clyde was as good a passer as Magic, Isiah or Larry. Rick Adelman said CD was second only to Magic. Steve Jones, Robert Horry, Danny Ainge, Jack Ramsay, Bill Walton, Rudy T., these guys all praised Drexler's passing.

I'm a huge Clyde Drexler fan, but I'll be the first to admit that Jordan was best player I've ever seen. Only Hakeem in 1994 and 1995 comes close, and that was only for two years.
He was also the most amazing player I've ever seen, partly because of his athleticism but also his drive. He had the best "motor" of any player I've ever seen, whereas Clyde tended to conserve energy at times.

@hangtime23ful : Hmmm. I wouldn't say MJ was a better athlete or a better driver to the basket. I wouldn't even say he was a better dunker, though that's obviously a matter of preference. And Clyde was, on a per minute basis, a more prolific rebounder and passer for assists.
But everything else you said I would agree with. And none of it is a knock on Clyde, who was tremendously skilled, very clutch over his career, had a great will to win, and was a great defender. MJ was just GOAT.

People today only remember the 1992 Finals when they think of MJ and Clyde. But prior to that, Drexler played Jordan better than anyone else in the NBA.
In 1990, Clyde held MJ to 16 points in a Blazers victory.
In 1991, Drexler averaged 29.5 ppg (8.0 above his average that year) on 59% FG against MJ in two matchups, both of which Portland won.
In 1992, Clyde averaged 32 ppg in two games, but the Bulls swept.
MJ was a better player, but Clyde was a better athlete and underrated.

I find it laughable that there are many Jockers that downplay Pippen, after watching footage of a game like this vs. another NBA great.
As for Portland of this era....I kinda feel bad for them, they were after Showtime THE most exciting offensive fast breaking team I'd ever seen. They just couldn't play 1/2 court basketball when the tempo slowed. I think if Sabonis had came over before injuries, they'd have won a title at some point. Imagine Sabs' sublime passing with Clyde's athleticism!

every player in the nba gets scored on....as far as comparing jordan and drexler check the 92 finals....who played better offensively?
drexler- 24.8 ppg,5.3 apg....shot .407%
jordan- 35.8 ppg,6.5 apg....shot .526%
this is what seperates jordan from kobe......kobe was outplayed by rip hamilton and ray allen in the nba finals....that cant be disputed....he has been outplayed by others,but those are the opposing 2 guards in the 2 finals he lost....2 uconn sg's owned kobe's ass

The thing about DVD's "size" B/S is that most of Clyde scores in this video are due to just lousy transition defence by MJ, and too much time arguing with refs and trying to be Deion in the open court intercepting everything. I hardly see any effort from Clyde on most of these scores. I mean I don't even think Shaq or Wilt in any 1 game in their careers got as many dunks as Clyde did in this video,lol.
Isn't this the sort of defensive effort that caused MJ to throw chairs as guys??

my other point is that jordan was a guard. listed at 6 foot 6 but really 6 foot 5 around 215 pounds. Drexler was 6 foot 8 inches and 230 pounds. It makes no sense to put jordan on clyde pre93. Jordan didnt have the body to combat and absorb the power of a big player like clyde drexler early 90's or 80's. Maybe 96-98 it make more sense. but different positions and weight class. Only on occassions did jordan guard clyde. In this video drexler scores like 15 points on jordan and shows drexler
