  • 5 and a half I didn't speak properly till I was 7-8 :(

  • shades of grey like the staind albun huh?

  • If you learned language at the same rate or near the same rate as your peers you have Aspergers. If you have delays in language development then you have autism. I live in a special needs school and that is what they told me here the difference was.

  • it doesn't matter if ur autistic or have aspergers because people will love u the way u are

    :)

  • I don't get it! In these videos he doesn't have all the crazy tics...wtf happened?!??

  • @sean919191 I know it's sad isn't it. I was mild back then and suppressed all my tics until off camera usually at midnight. I hid them from my parents too, but they figured it out at 13 and I got medicated for it. It really helped back then as you can see.

  • smoke some weed, that might cure the meltdowns ;)

  • Haha...didn't realize I already responded to this a long time ago. Apparently my opinion hasn't changed! :P lol I did have my Aspergers diagnosis revoked, and received a diagnosis of classic autism at the age of 27--so it is definitely possible to get one when you are older. I didn't start speaking properly after my regression until I was about 5 1/2 though which is, I think, the only reason she switched my diagnosis.

  • Aspergers is a spectrum within a spectrum. By this I mean that a person can be severe and still have Aspergers, or be very mild. If you didn't have a speech or communication delay, then Aspergers is probably what fits. Black and white thinking and sensory issues and difficulties with socializing are also part of Aspergers, so I don't think those things would separate you from AS.

  • Arnt' they really the same thing or really close?

  • It is really a very interesting subject as there is some question as to whether AS and high-functioning Autism are distinct at all. Some argue that it can be best explained by clinical variations within the same condition. As of now though, they are still obviously regarded as separate clinical entities.

  • "Am I High Functioning Autistic, or Asperger's Syndrome? "

I find it very unlikely that you are a human incarnation of Asperger's syndrome.

  • you have aspergers

  • Comment removed

  • I would say their diagnosis is correct: a severe level of Aspergers. I consider myself to be severe on the high-functioning end of things as well. My official diagnosis is Aspergers, but I didn't speak until age 2 1/2 then became nonverbal again shortly after age 3. Because of that, I fit classic autism, but we seem to be quite similar (severe AS and HFA are similar in older people).

  • Besides language differences HFA is distinguished by an earlier onset. Since you say flapping and rocking, which are uncontrollable neurological stims, came about when you were a teenager it is highly unlikely that you have HFA. I've been rocking since I could sit up in my crib because of sensory issues (low motor registration). Also keep in mind that there isn't enough of a difference for the DSM to have seperate lists. So who cares!

  • @Hazelsmom85 AS is there since birth as well, it often is just not diagnosed until later in life.

  • Wow. I am 19 and have been diagnosed with aspergers. It REALLY bugs me that I don't know wether I am HFA or aspergers. I just wish I knew! I wasn't diagnosed til I was 16, and I am just now begining to realize exactly how it affects me. I have always had short hair too, but I am a girl so it is a bit odd for others. I HATED high school, I actually had to drop out and go to online school. My first word was "cat". haha. I would love to chat with you, we have so much in common!!

  • I was diagonsed with HFA but I had no speech delay, I have like two symptoms of Asperger's. O.o

  • @laila123455 Asperger's is HFA without the speech delay. How could you have HFA if you hardly have any symptoms of AS?

  • @littlelily613 Good point littlelily..

  • @littlelily613 Ask my doctor...

  • @laila123455 Apparently he doesn't know what he is talking about. You have to have the diagnostic criteria in order to be diagnosed with it. Sometimes even people who have a diagnosis have been misdiagnosed and do not really have it.

  • You are very high functioning. Seems like you have great communication skills and reflective thinking. You should go very far in your life and don't let anyone tell you other wise!

  • @Sarnarath: You forgot to say please.

  • @DChatc ''please''

  • @Sarnarath: Hmmmm, no.

Besides why should anyone like this go when alcoholics and other addicts, the emotionally unstable, and sociopaths cause real mayhem for the world?

    Aspergers are a better people.

  • @DChatc

    sociopath here,

    i disagree.

  • @Sarnarath : Very well than. But that being the case, what then should the fate of humankind matter?

Given the content of your channel, I should imagine you ought to consider us your best friends, for 'tis our technical marvels that would cleanse this debauched Earth (humanity as it is known is like the toddler who found the knife in the drawer).

Nature is just taking it's course. We will be the last standing.

  • @valdezmiguel2 Oh wow your so smart NOT

  • @larxado. If the symptoms are being caused by the autism itself, which is an UNCURABLE condition, the symptoms are going to be out of everyone's control. Symptoms are not the cause, they are the effect.

Autistics with massive extrasensory problems will have the hardest time because it is not something anyone can easily treat and thus not be well controlled.

  • @Laraxado: And that process took something like two-three years to finish, and I still get irritated by things, I just don't react in an obvious manner; rather I withdraw into various destractions), or I try to pretend that I feel something else (an induced hallucination using hypnotic suggestion), or I get very irritable...

And even in school I had to learn PROCESSIONALLY; many teachers would be nagging me because I was trying to get one whole chapter finished on one text book...

  • @Laraxado: Now, about your comments to this person. You assume she had everything she needed during the formative years, especially since so little is known about this stuff that professionals are barely useful.

Most likely due to diet (mac n cheese, cheese doodles, doritos etc) I had extreme problems with behavior and sensations until my early teens (after finding religion and taking a self-hypnosis course which allowed me to figure myself out and toy with my own perceptions).

  • @Laraxado: You know your comment is an unpleasant brew of arrogance and ignorance. We call this drink 'naivite'.

First about this society: Yes, necessity demands we know our surroundings and it's maze, but let me tell you that from what I see, this society is not worthy of anyone's attention! It's a shoddily built, molding outhouse that is ready to sink into the cesspool beneath!

"It means nothing to be 'well adjusted' to a sick society": J. Krishnamurti.

  • aspies should care more about theirself...they look like nerds with this freak-like style.

  • @Padulas: You are indeed partially correct about that statement; we should care more about ourselves by developing a cultural conscience, band together and form our own communities were it IS acceptable to look like "freaks", and where people like you will have to play by OUR rules (if you ever been to Japan, than you would know what I mean: 'This hotel is for ASPERGERS only'). Now, stranger, on your way, Danken schenn/Domo Arigato

  • @CDB8510 Neurotypicals (as you call in your autistic language, normal people) will rule forever this world.....aspies and autistics are less than 1%,so you aspies create your own country and go 2 live there.... ;)

  • @Padulas: Yep, that was the plan, I'm suprised you figured it out on your own :)

  • @CDB8510 I;m not stupid

  • @Laraxado I don't understand your statement completely, but I want to say with regard to "but the symptoms, as far as I can see, they're not different, but with a better level of intelligence" It is wrong to presume someone who cannot score as high on an IQ test is necessarily of lesser intelligence.

  • total fail, i know you are a girl... learn how to look your gender befor posting.

  • @AubreyMan2012 *before

  • @AubreyMan2012 "learn how to look your gender" ?? Why should someone live up to your superficial expectations. Grow up.

  • I feel you have Aspergers. But you know Autism has several catergories. If you want to get book smarts, technically High functioning autism is not an official diagnostic term, though it may be used as such. It tends to describe people who have many or all of the symptoms of autism but did not develop language typically. You spoke at an early age, so you don't fit in this catergorie. Try talking with a dr that understand ASD.

  • the biggest difference between Asperger syndrome and high functioning Autism was based on whether a person developed speech typically as a toddler. Those who did develop speech typically were considered to have Asperger syndrome while those who did not (even if they developed typical speech later) were diagnosed with high func. Autism.

  • @LUUCKEEEE I agree with that distinction. Autism having delayed or non-existent speech - obviously not the case with jaydy11. :o)

  • @wiscsuzski (continued) I am beginning to see the value in changing the DSM to blend the spectrum into a single diagnosis. People can be very unsympathetic (not talking about pity or sympathy here) to higher functioning autistics. Even among themselves, they bicker over validity of diagnosis. Like - "you can't be autistic, because you can talk, and work at a job and drive a car" or "you aren't really an Aspie, you're just a self-diagnosed weirdo looking for an excuse"

  • are you a girl or a guy??

  • I have a 20-year-old high functioning autistic son who said many, many words as a baby (-2) but didn't make sentences until he was 2+. I was always told by doctors that Aspergers is autism without a langauge/speech problem. You're a charming young man and very articulate. I would suspect that you're Aspergers. My son was diagnosed at 2 1/2. But he's extremely atypical. He's always been very social which is odd. Nobody believes he's autistic when he tells them. Good luck to you.

  • @Laraxado I can't control most of my symptoms. We are clearly more severe then you. Autism is very depressing for me and my friend Adam who you've been talking to. It's a curse, it's terror when I'm screaming all day hitting my head against the wall as hard as I can I've broken bones, gotten blood clots, and seizures from uncontrollable meltdowns. Please DONT say that symptoms can't be controlled!!! Because sometimes they really CANT be.

  • @Mariotheplumber100 Learn how to speak english then come back and talk to me ;)

  • it has been very interesting to get your school experiences....as i have a son with suspected aspergers. My son is in the 3rd grade and plays with someone whose quirks are similar to yours and who has been assessed as aspergers. It's good to get some insight into your life as it can largely help to know more... Ru xx

  • Well jaydy11, HFA and AS can be considered to be the same. Actually, in the next DSM (which will be DSM-V) AS might be removed and instead integrated in HFA.

  • Hi. I am a counselor for children and teens with autism and Asperger's. Much of the research that has been done show there really isn't much difference between people who are diagnosed as "Asperger's" and those who are diagnosed as "high functioning Autism." This is why the American Psychiatric Association is thinking of changing the diagnosis in 2012 to "Autism Spectrum Disorder." Thanks for sharing.

  • I have come to wonder if there is really that much difference between the two. Some of the "differences" people point out are not considered absolute must-haves for either. Therefore, having or not having that difference will not neccessarily change the diagnosis.

  • Thank you for posting this! You remind me so much with myself! I have a great memroy and I remember the day I was born too. In fact I remember things even before that! I had problems with socializing too but I had a few good friends too. There were certain stressfull situations which I responded by screaming too. Yeah, a diagnosis of Asperger's can be late. I wasn't diagnosed till I was in 11th. grade.

Well, the diagnosis of Asperger's is a mild form of high fuctioning autisum.

  • Thank you for posting this! You remind me so much of myself!

  • I think that it should just be called Autistic Spectrum Disorder because we are all so different and it's hard to categorize.

I'm "on the Spectrum", but people who know me don't see any issues at all because I'm good at "masking".

My son is diagnosed with Autism, but he has excellent speech. His diagnosis was based on the fact that he didn't "communicate" with those words. Talking and communicating are two very different things... a lot of people don't realize this.

  • Very interesting video you did there,I'm actually a mildly autistic man who was diagnosed at four and at the age if 4 I has seizures one after another all the time then it stopped when I turned 5 and now I don't get any seizures at all.I'm able to do normal things but still have aone of the main signs of autism.

  • I think that is why the experts want to just have one label of "autism" instead of all the Aspergers/PDD/Classic labels. You're probably somewhere right in the middle of HF Autism and LF Aspergers. I think they need a new system, with something like a number, or levels, to distinguish different kinds of autism.

  • I'm diagnosed with Asperger's because I have no speech delay, but I've also read that learning difficulties often combine with autism but not Asperger's. I'm an A level student and have support in all four lessons, yet I'm still very behind my peers in academic ability.

  • yeah tis quite silly. as it stands now, you get aspergers if there was no clear indication of disability at 3 yrs old.

not just looking at speech delay, but other developmental delays. one of the dangers of this is, that we diagnose the parents ability to detect autism/aspergers, not the person affected by it.

  • Hi! How are your grades in school? HFA and Aspergers are just labels. Just be the best YOU. :)

  • I sure as heck have A.S....along woth OCD...and I HATE IT! My life SUCKS! DO I even have a life?

  • I couldn't really tell you if you've H.F.A. or A.S. because I've hard time trying to get people to believe that I've A.S.!

I mean, I got the diagnosis but because I'm sorta borderline between 'avarage-joe' and austistic, some of the 'average-joes' aren't convinced- that includes some psychiatrists as well!

Maybe it could be down to that I only got the diagnosis just before I turned 20, and that I've had to socialise with lots of other people around me nearly all the time...

  • i have Aspergers i alswas cum home crying about everyday suxd lol kinda hard for me to talk about it
