  • Comment removed

  • Amazing project.

  • is your organization a profit based one or a non profit based one??

If I want these laptops for the poor children in my country would you supply them at a low/subsidized cost??

  • @queenLatifaah1 I'm sure they will sell them if you contact them. They claim to be non-profit organization.

  • @Russenboss lol, I'm with you there, you should still be able to choose your religion or have no religion at all.. That's me haha, I honestly don't think there is a greater power.. I dunno that's just my opinion haha

  • i saw a yogurt ad supporting this cause i see a figure with an X on it and it travels to africa for a kid. can you tell me what the comercial yogurt ad is?

  • Great! Now the whole world can enjoy watching porn!

  • @MrMakeman some people use computers to actually learn and become educated its sad that some people use the internet just to watch dirty stuff like you sir

  • There are two things that I hope they are addressed by this organization. 1.Abusive parents that might use the laptop for their own benefit. 2.The natural way of children being playful with it while not actually learning. As many text books i think it should also include a "curricular" guidance for teachers and parents so they can take full advantage of this.

  • @kr0wn3d

    1. why would a kindergardener need a laptop, it will be more practical if the age range was 10-high school

    2. why do they only give laptops to kids in the 3rd world, there are plenty of schools in the US that can use that kind of help

    3. before they give out laptops they should first give out food, vaccines, clean water, and textbooks

    those are essential

  • i bet it wont let you watch porn on it, no porn, no education...

  • Wery good thing you're doing.

Do the laptops have multiple languages?

  • A lot better than the existing "One AK Per Child" programmes that some countries have.

  • @walter0bz LOL

An laptop per kid is an EPIC WIN idea.

An AK per kid is an EPIC FAIL idea.

  • @ComeOn2250 - i think the AK project has a head start though

  • One-AK-Per-Child and OLPC can both use exactly the same tag-line:-

"So simple even a child can use it, and they do."

  • laptops doesn't equal education

    quite the contrary

in the usa they're trying to get kids off of electronics

    so what is the point

  • @vivlevivle

The laptops are for information access.

And the "electronics" you were referring to is video games. Nothing informational.

  • @ComeOn2250 i just fell like they are sayin that laptops are the only thing you need for a good education

and if we give these kids laptops they're gonna start competing with american children

  • All you need is wikipedia access on this thing and it's instant education!

  • Hi, im from Peru. im student of computer science of PUCP and i want to be part of development team of XO software or help your mision in my country... what do i do for be a part of the team? thanks!

    pd. nice idea

  • Paper. Cheap, requires no power or batteries, never crashes, portable, expandable, lasts 100,000x longer than magnetic media, instant on, sortable, handles graphics and color and fonts of any size or text of any language with ease, duplicate it, you can send messages on it globally, even compress it, recycle it. Sponsor my: "One Pack of Index Cards" per child program. For the cost of one useless junky plastic toxic breakable OLPC you can buy 100,000 index cards, or enough for 100 children.

  • i want that laptop but it cant get itunes on it or other stuff

  • how he use internet? 3G? you need pay?

  • Video Options: Blogspot blogs and lots of others require a 425 or 400 dot horizontal width. That should be one of the options.

  • excellent movie

  • agree

  • Education + freedom + intelligence + praying - borders = change the world

  • @MarshunMartin - praying

  • We it will but before marketing for the common people starts there giving to the ones who need it who cant drive down the street to best buy or Wal-Mart etc..

  • a book can cost 100

this laptop cost 100 but have unlimited information in it via internet ,it is a life saver for the poor and thrist for kwodlege

  • College books, they're really expensive. A friend of mine studies medicine, one of his books costed $149.99USD. He was really mad at it being .99...

  • Sorry, meant to say "what". And yah, I know what you mean. Textbooks do cost loads of cash.

  • "our mission, not our market" heh... I wonder how long it took to get that line into your literature after the Classmate PC came out. :-p

  • DO THEY COME IN SWAHILI??

  • YES

  • I have a belief that currently while it is a great idea to offer computing to the third and second worlds.

There are poor communities and poor families in the first nations. Usually making up a pretty large sum of people.

And in some places, kids don't even have food or clean water. What i think would work would be to try and help finance these places, and with that, we could then send them the computers for them to use.

And it would be good to give them to poorer first world kids as well.

  • Even the poorest kids in the first world have public schools and free libraries. Benifits that these kids don't. It's not about the laptop. The computer itself is just a means to an end; that end being education.

  • yeah but the thing is our country has those resources and the oportunity is there hard to get but its there for them they dont have it in anyway shape or form

  • how do they connect to the innternet? they have wireless hotspots on top of mountains?

  • Almost. Wi max is called here.

  • Ahh, and the good ol´sattelites, of course.

  • hmm neat stuff on se internets huh?? lots of porn for everyone!!.. Does it recharge on solar energy??:o

  • "O computador não é um instrumento como uma caneta, ele instiga a curiosidade e abre portas para novas possibilidades."

    Victor Mammana

  • thanks kr0wn3d. javi, not in any quantity.

  • good idea, but why the fuck would the laptop fall off a mountain?

  • Just out of a tree. laptops fall, you know. Mountain drop tests I haven't done...

  • Lol,But anyway this is a great idea!

  • What became of the hand-cranked battery charger in the earlier version of XO that offered so much more versatility?

  • low power output. a solar panel is much more efficient, though it doesn't work in every environment.

  • Windows is inside in Peru...boomer

  • For the Internet connection, how about using the TV Spectrum, the same stuff Google is talking about using in the USA on the 700mhz spectrum. Use that to routers that then forward a WiFi mesh signal.

  • That's an interesting idea. Also ground-based radio, if you don't need such high bandwidth.

  • very cool.

  • "must include free and open-source software" :)

  • Yup, that doesn't exclude closed and non-free stuff to also work on it if the country/school/teacher/student wants to run some closed and non-free stuff on it as well.

  • sure, because everyone needs an anti-virus in their life.
