@Russenboss lol, I'm with you there, you should still be able to choose your religion or have no religion at all.. That's me haha, I honestly don't think there is a greater power.. I dunno that's just my opinion haha

@MrMakeman some people use computers to actually learn and become educated its sad that some people use the internet just to watch dirty stuff like you sir
There are two things that I hope they are addressed by this organization. 1.Abusive parents that might use the laptop for their own benefit. 2.The natural way of children being playful with it while not actually learning. As many text books i think it should also include a "curricular" guidance for teachers and parents so they can take full advantage of this.
Hi, im from Peru. im student of computer science of PUCP and i want to be part of development team of XO software or help your mision in my country... what do i do for be a part of the team? thanks!
Paper. Cheap, requires no power or batteries, never crashes, portable, expandable, lasts 100,000x longer than magnetic media, instant on, sortable, handles graphics and color and fonts of any size or text of any language with ease, duplicate it, you can send messages on it globally, even compress it, recycle it. Sponsor my: "One Pack of Index Cards" per child program. For the cost of one useless junky plastic toxic breakable OLPC you can buy 100,000 index cards, or enough for 100 children.
I got a free Dell XPS M1530 laptop from here and just wanted to let you know that you too can get it ..Get your Own DELL laptop For free Now!! Only for US Peoples.
We it will but before marketing for the common people starts there giving to the ones who need it who cant drive down the street to best buy or Wal-Mart etc..
I have a belief that currently while it is a great idea to offer computing to the third and second worlds.
There are poor communities and poor families in the first nations. Usually making up a pretty large sum of people.
And in some places, kids don't even have food or clean water. What i think would work would be to try and help finance these places, and with that, we could then send them the computers for them to use.
And it would be good to give them to poorer first world kids as well.
Even the poorest kids in the first world have public schools and free libraries. Benifits that these kids don't. It's not about the laptop. The computer itself is just a means to an end; that end being education.
yeah but the thing is our country has those resources and the oportunity is there hard to get but its there for them they dont have it in anyway shape or form
For the Internet connection, how about using the TV Spectrum, the same stuff Google is talking about using in the USA on the 700mhz spectrum. Use that to routers that then forward a WiFi mesh signal.
Yup, that doesn't exclude closed and non-free stuff to also work on it if the country/school/teacher/student wants to run some closed and non-free stuff on it as well.
this is a really great laptop! but one question...where can i get one?

@kr0wn3d
1. why would a kindergardener need a laptop, it will be more practical if the age range was 10-high school
2. why do they only give laptops to kids in the 3rd world, there are plenty of schools in the US that can use that kind of help
3. before they give out laptops they should first give out food, vaccines, clean water, and textbooks
those are essential
vivlevivle 1 year ago
i bet it wont let you watch porn on it, no porn, no education...

Do the laptops have multiple languages?

A lot better than the existing "One AK Per Child" programmes that some countries have.

@walter0bz LOL
An laptop per kid is an EPIC WIN idea.
An AK per kid is an EPIC FAIL idea.

@ComeOn2250 - i think the AK project has a head start though

One-AK-Per-Child and OLPC can both use exactly the same tag-line:-

laptops doesn't equal education
quite the contrary
in the usa they're trying to get kids off of electronics
so what is the point
vivlevivle 1 year ago
@vivlevivle
The laptops are for information access.
And the "electronics" you were referring to is video games. Nothing informational.
ComeOn2250 1 year ago
@ComeOn2250 i just fell like they are sayin that laptops are the only thing you need for a good education
and if we give these kids laptops they're gonna start competing with american children
vivlevivle 1 year ago
All you need is wikipedia access on this thing and it's instant education!

low power output. a solar panel is much more efficient, though it doesn't work in every environment.
