Just talking about this place with my son who goes gigging in Liverpool. Saw Supertramp here and many others. Donuts and cheese rolls from the cafe. Rushing out to catch the last ferry or train back to Wirral. looking back it seems strange how you kinda just got dragged along in the scene- long hair, flares, ban the bomb patches, patcholi oil, kaftan coats,or a leather or camo jacket. as impressionable teenagers. Agh well those days gone.
Thanks for the post. Me and my brother Mike travelled from Ellesmere Port to see loads of great bands at the Boxing Stadium in Liverpool. The ones I remember are: Wishbone Ash, Santana, Hawkwind, Rory Gallagher, Lynard Skynard.
@xxXXHeYjOeXXxx Amazing video, were all the ticket stubs yours? Legendary place, found your vid via the Liverpool Stadium Rock Years link. Great stuff.
@richievegas01 No, never saved a single stub, took a photo or ripped down a poster. All the stubs, images, posters are courtesy of Craigs site you visited . I just have great memories or should I say what I remember :)
I was in my early teens when I First went to concerts at the Liverpool Stadium. I Got most of my tickets from "Probe" records in Mathew Street. It never seemed to be a problem getting them. I can still "smell" The Stadiums own unique atmosphere 40 years on. Saw Zeppelin, Queen, Rory Gallagher, Hawkwind and dozens of other great bands there. Thanks for putting this video together it brings back great memories....Happy days.
@PAULPONO I think you will find Probe did not move to Mathew Street until mid 70s..Tickets usually at that time were from Cosmopolitan, Silly Billies and some from Probe..on Rodney Street..I am 100% sure the Zeppelin tickets would have come from one of those sources and not Mathew St..I stand to be corrected..
@PAULPONO Tickets could also be purchased from International Travel, St. John's Precinct I've been reliably informed. (I know a fella who worked behind the counter in there)
wish we could rewind the hands of time.... tons of memories.. DR.FEELGOOD, HEAVY METAL KIDS, TED NUGENT, AC/DC...... I MISS IT... thank God i lived to see those gigs and more...
@1959child yep, in fact I reckon you'd not get a ticket if it was possible to do that, the youg un's would snap 'em up, even more so today I reckon as most realise the atmosphere/class acts of that era.
I heard me..at the beginning introducing the whole shebang...Tosh....
