  • Singing this on Sunday and can't get it out of my head, glad I've now found somewhere to listen to it!

  • The devil disliked this...

  • ah, the brilliant and amazing Haydn - will there be another like him?

  • I'm so used to hearing this oratorio in German. This is the first time I've heard it sung in English. They did a VERY good job!

  • I love this! We're singing it at evensong this week - but with an organ instead of strings. It's pretty intense!! <3

  • The heavens are Yelling!

  • @bakelitetim they are for sure :).

  • Anyone else hear this on Final Fantasy VII during the scene with President ShinRa?

  • @FeartheConstrict That's what he's hearing when the Sector 7 collapses.

  • This is a fabulous recording! We're singing this tonight and I just love it.

  • bi way or another that's remind me of beethoven >>> i don`t konw why

In other words, the first time that I feel the impact of Hayden on Beethoven

  • @ahmadti oh, for sure, Haydn had a very large impact on Beethoven. If you want to hear an even better example, listen to "Aus Rosenwolken Bricht" from the 3rd part of the Creation (it's the beginning of the third part), the clarinet playing will definitely sound very much like Beethoven made it sound.

  • @Olegstuff21986 that clarinet sound if some one but it in 6th symphony of beethoven no one will Notes any thing .. you are righty right

  • This is the best recording of this piece that I have ever heard!! I am a violinist and I play with the MAYS youth symphony orchestra in Orlando, Florida and we played this piece with choir. I would like to know who performed this piece! This really is the best performance I have heard and I listen to it pretty much every night. Thanks for posting.

  • @pjpbfcbdab I do not know! Sorry :(

  • @pjpbfcbdab I think it is performed by the Royal Festival Chorus conducted by Robert Shaw.

I agree about the quality of the performance and in thanking BachnerTrpt for the posting.

  • O my, this sounds lovely but I prefer the original German language version. Haydn didn't write it in English!

  • @AmericanEvita Correction, Haydn took the original English libretto back with him from London and then set his oratorio with dual English and German text.

  • It's a shame most classical pieces are religious, but Haydn was just an awesome composer.

  • @moraesfmk Many classical pieces are religious and many are not, but I agree Haydn was an awesome composer.

  • My High school does this every single year as well as the Hallelujah Chorus. I love this song. The Tenor part is amazing.

  • My high school chorus did this song this past school year. I got the tenor part in the trio :))). Love this song!

  • The Heavens are Telling the Glory of God!

the wonders of His works displays the firmament...

Ever delighted to hear this music.

  • Thanks so much for posting ! GLORY TO GOD !!!

  • What an EXCELLENT piece.

  • There is no information about the singers/choir and musicians who performed this version. Could they be the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Singers, conducted by the late Robert Shaw?

  • An inspiring performance of a great piece.

"When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy"

    (Job 38:7)

  • One of the finest choruses ever written. The brilliant cranking of the climax up to greater and greater heights and intensities gets me every time.

  • To the tenor who wishes he could chest a good G, this actually goes up to A in the tenors. The A is in fact the top regulation note for the tenor register. I always back myself to hit the top tenor note in this work (the A) cleanly.

  • The English version is best for me

  • I think what matters is the not the language itself, but the original texts in the original language intended by the composer... I assume the compoer had the ability to matchwell the texts (and the way they are pronunced) with the music.

  • the tenor solo in that is so much fun to sing !

  • Comment removed

  • This is indeed the Atlanta Symphony "Expanded" Chamber Chorus. I remember that Mr. Shaw rehearsed the entire ASO chorus for this event, then chose forty members to round out the Chamber Chorus to 100 voices. I was not chosen, but I was at the final rehearsals -- and it was breathtaking. And Mr. Shaw had reservations about about the recording. He was not happy. I believe he almost scrapped it. Thank goodness he did not.

  • This is the way to do this piece. I like the word "firmament" fffffiaarrrrmmMMmaauuwwmmennnt. The tenor solo Is cool too, I wish I could chest a good G.

  • I can! yay. But none of the other tenors in the A level choir i'm in can, so the teacher had to put it down. :( lol

  • What nebula is this?

  • looks like orion

  • What CD does this come off of? please tell me specific year singers and conductors and choir please. :)

Thanks for sharing I LOVE it.

  • I'm pretty sure this is the Atlanta Symphony and the Robert Shaw Chorale. And even if its not, the Robert Shaw version is really good.

  • Thanks. Yes I thought so it sounded like it :) Thanks

  • Oakwood University did this with the first part being Awake the Harp Aeolians.

  • Hey, what happened to my favorite part—"Today that is coming speaks it the day"? These cleaned-up versions have nothing on the original :-D

We just sang this with the original English libretto, so maybe I'm a little biased. Certainly any given retranslation is gonna be a lot more musical... just less hilarious.

  • FYI German is the original version, and I think it sounds way better.

  • Right, I meant the first English performance libretto, not one of the modern reconstructions. Actually, the *original* was an anonymously-composed poem in English that would have been several hours long. (Wikipedia says four; my old director told me six!) Both Händel and Haydn refused to work on it, but Haydn's friend Baron van Swieten rendered it in German, to which the music was set, and then again in English, to match the German "reduction" in length and scope.

  • Watch a complete performance of Haydn's Creation this weekend 12-15 June, free, online at the London Symphony Orchestra's website. Visit our channel for more information.
