There was another 'Royal Variety Performance' when Kevin Mooney so memorably threw his bass away and exited the stage three quarters of the way in to the song. The tabloids the next day were full of it, with one even stating that the Queen's safety had been at risk! It was proper dramatic and almost subversive in the true sense - has anyone got the footage, could they post it up?

I followed the ANTS to Boston (Paradise), Philadelphia (Irving Auditorium) and Washington (the Bayou) already fallen victim to the magnificent Kings of the Wild Frontier album. After the first song in Boston, I remember looking at my friend incredulously. Whilst the band started out incredibly but the moment Adam began singing it was a downer. Even still we went on to Philly and DC. But... honestly, the guy is DREADFUL live.

I remember when the other bassist, dropped his bass at the end of the song and stormed off in protest. He was a hard line punk and didn't like the way the band was being portrayed. I remember Adam saying he knew he was going to do something but didn't know what...His face at the end was classic, mad as hell he was.

Kevin left the band (or was booted out) after the infamous Royal Variety performance where half way through his strap broke (I think) and instead of continuing to play, placed his bass on the stage and danced around it, much to Adams disgust.

I was stationed at RAF Bentwaters when this came out. There was actual fears about Adam and his makeup. Folks thought ic could start a riot or something. Pretty tame looking now.

all the instruments were mimed, and adam was the only one allowed to perform live, and Kevin started arsing about cause he was pissed off at adam.

I'm a big Ant / punk fan & collected about everything the ants ever did including all the imports, how sad :) The following month after this was shot i saw Prince Charming Review in Brighton in Dec '81 so this must have been in the middle of the tour or just before, awesome concert by the way, Adam made a loss to say thank-you to his fans, how many would do that ??
