@warhawk9566 The F-22 is going to have some upgrades yes, but the Aircraft will be the same, the range will still suck, the maintenance will just get worse, time between overhauls will steadily decrease. It is a good aircraft but development took too long and it was outdated before it went into regular production. It is also totally dependent on aerial tankers, they designated prey of the J-20.

@zebadee277 they stopped building them because f-22s are enormously expensive and because there is no practical use for them at the moment... the raptor wasnt even deployed to iraq/afghanistan. there was no loss of faith in the f-22, only a lapse in demand for it.

The lack of all aspect stealth of the F-35 had already been viewed by defence analysis (Carlo Kopp) - incapable to penetrate integrated air defence belt without heavy support, why would I go for a design which restrict my ordinates loads and pots that are too expensive to discard with the requirement of support remains the same.

@ps3bandit8 The F-35 is NOT only visable in those two bandwidths. The F-35 concentrates on a small part of the bandwidth, which the European jets are not. The S-500 was reckoned by USAF generals as able to find the F-35. And the F-35 produces one hell of an IR-signal, just like its older brother, the F-22. That's also the reason why Eurofighters were able to lock upon the F-22 with its PIRATE IRST system, way before the F-22 managed to lock onto the Eurofighters.

More than 600 planes would be bought before 2022, around 200 S-400 and S-500 systems would be purchased and placed along the eastern borders. Russia has signed contracts of 12 new radar systems, which all have very varied radar bandwidth-modes. So if you ask me, an F-35 will not be able to penetrate Russia with ease. Far from it.

@HMSBeagle200 From what i know the AIM-120C has a kill ratio of 50% vs. USSR aircraft and poorly trained pilots barely deploying chaff. Imagine a well trained pilot equipt with an Su-35BM. Counter measures have developed considerable with towed decoys, Radio Frequency Memory jammers, etc. Of course the missiles have developed too. AIM-120D, Meteor... The USAF also has the F-22 Raptor. It would be interesting to see a future air war both combatants being similar in training and equipment.

With respect, I think stealth and BVR are over rated, especially during mass aerial engagement (from a Taiwanese point of view, against a numerically superior foe), you will run out of BVR missile before you run out of target, you will get dog fight you will have saturated jamming if not saturated volley of IR seeking missile (which Russian has with BVR range) and with F-35 you will die because you are not agile and because you carries only 2 AIM-9 and because you can't escape.

Still the doubt to any modern combat aircraft is how well do they fair in sustaining sorties over designated air space, air to air duel do not win the war, air force need exert their power to immobilized enemy movement and close air support.
THE frontal RCS of Eurofighter, Su-35BM, Rafale is about 1meter^2, detection range of APG-81 is about 80KM+/- roughly the range of AMRAAM. These 3 fighter all have super cruise (not sure about SU35), at Mach 1 plus 800+KPH of F-35 the time to merge is 2.5 minutes, 40KM is about the detection range of modern IRST, detection advantage is about 1.3 minutes. The exacerbate the problem because of the heat boom and the opening bomb bay, the moment that AMRAAM is fired the position of F-35 is known.

@zebadee277 they stopped building them because f-22s are enormously expensive and because there is no practical use for them at the moment... the raptor wasnt even deployed to iraq/afghanistan. there was no loss of faith in the f-22, only a lapse in demand for it.

i wonder why many people r wrong about the F-22's maneuverability with it thrust vectoring in games like you need to slow down to do a cobra but its kinda true but its not a Sukoi, in order to do a cobra in an F-22 u must Full Throttle around 141-252 Knots w/ airbrakes on and pitch high around 120 degress more like -70 degrees inverse in ur hud and u put ur throttle to idle once u hit that degree mark and that is it u accomplish a Cobra

@seriousssm F-22s have limited ground attack capabilities in the form of the SDB which it can carry 12 internally or two GBU-31 JDAMs. F-22 deployment in Libya is useless because of lack of opposing aircraft. Besides, bombing was initiated by the UK, France and smaller members of NATO with the US leading the charge since we can strike instantly no matter where we are. Now the US provides aerial refueling, AEW and SEAD missions and drone strikes on occasion.

Hey has anyone seen the Block III Super Hornet? Its still in mock up stage but its seems they have been taking note from the Boeing Silent Eagle program and making their fighter stealthy or should i say stealhier. Super Hornets have some form of limited stealth already.

@TuAFFalcon If the battle field/theatre is already cleansed you could have send in F-105 as well, if the operational theatre can be cleansed at the first place. The lack of all aspect stealth of the F-35 had already been viewed by defence analysis (Carlo Kopp) - incapable to penetrate integrated air defence belt without heavy support, why would I go for a design which restrict my ordinates loads and pots that are too expensive to discard with the requirement of support remains the same.

Yes but the F-105 will incur heavy loses as it is technologically weak and can not drop any modern ordance. F-35 is a mini awacs and it can carry long range stand off missiles unlike the F-22 and take out targets from outside the perimeter.

@ps3bandit8 The F-35 is NOT only visable in those two bandwidths. The F-35 concentrates on a small part of the bandwidth, which the European jets are not. The S-500 was reckoned by USAF generals as able to find the F-35. And the F-35 produces one hell of an IR-signal, just like its older brother, the F-22. That's also the reason why Eurofighters were able to lock upon the F-22 with its PIRATE IRST system, way before the F-22 managed to lock onto the Eurofighters.

Russia can only afford to make 1-2 of each new fighter as we see these days. How many Su-37's does the RuAF have? How many Su-34's does it have? MiG-35's? And for the love of god the F-35 does not have to fly literally 1m up to the SAM sites to take them out. It will be equipt with long range cruise missiles like the Storm Shadow and JASSM.

@TuAFFalcon I do agree with you that Russians are a bit "over-confident" regarding their equipment, but Russia recently announced a major modernization. More than 600 planes would be bought before 2022, around 200 S-400 and S-500 systems would be purchased and placed along the eastern borders. Russia has signed contracts of 12 new radar systems, which all have very varied radar bandwidth-modes. So if you ask me, an F-35 will not be able to penetrate Russia with ease. Far from it.

Mig-23, Mig-29 of poorly trained, poorly motivated pilots with monkey export model (with doubt, even the state of art USSR avionics at that time air any better). The target almost never attempted to evade the incoming missile, this is the same for later AMRAAM - the target were all blind. Will that grossly unequal scenario hold true in any future engagement? I'm kinda old school in thinking that superior doctrine, training & command will prevail.

@HMSBeagle200 From what i know the AIM-120C has a kill ratio of 50% vs. USSR aircraft and poorly trained pilots barely deploying chaff. Imagine a well trained pilot equipt with an Su-35BM. Counter measures have developed considerable with towed decoys, Radio Frequency Memory jammers, etc. Of course the missiles have developed too. AIM-120D, Meteor... The USAF also has the F-22 Raptor. It would be interesting to see a future air war both combatants being similar in training and equipment.

With respect, I think stealth and BVR are over rated, especially during mass aerial engagement (from a Taiwanese point of view, against a numerically superior foe), you will run out of BVR missile before you run out of target, you will get dog fight you will have saturated jamming if not saturated volley of IR seeking missile (which Russian has with BVR range) and with F-35 you will die because you are not agile and because you carries only 2 AIM-9 and because you can't escape.

@HMSBeagle200 With all due respect, I talked to an F-15 aggressor pilot here at Nellis AFB and asked about how his fighter compares to the F-22. I remember him telling me how agile it is, but the main thing he wanted to point out was the stealth capabilities of the Raptor. He told me that the Raptor is so very hard to locate out of visual range. True stealth isn't the greatest asset to the Raptor due to the fact the Raptor's stealth can malfunction, but when it's working

@TheMRUndead Su-37 doesn't exist (it was a technological remonstrater), it can't out manoeuvre the F-22, the throttle respond and engine durability is inferior to the F-22, (thus the pitch and yawn authority during extreme AOA). Still the doubt to any modern combat aircraft is how well do they fair in sustaining sorties over designated air space, air to air duel do not win the war, air force need exert their power to immobilized enemy movement and close air support.

THE frontal RCS of Eurofighter, Su-35BM, Rafale is about 1meter^2, detection range of APG-81 is about 80KM+/- roughly the range of AMRAAM. These 3 fighter all have super cruise (not sure about SU35), at Mach 1 plus 800+KPH of F-35 the time to merge is 2.5 minutes, 40KM is about the detection range of modern IRST, detection advantage is about 1.3 minutes. The exacerbate the problem because of the heat boom and the opening bomb bay, the moment that AMRAAM is fired the position of F-35 is known.
