The point that Joker was making is true, anyone can pick up a firearm and kill someone from a distance. Killing someone with a knife however must be more satisfying for a deranged killer, you see your victim up close and personal. You can see the fear and terror in their eyes as you twist the blade and make them remember your face as the last thing they saw before they met their fate. I never really understood this scene despite having watched the movie multiple times. How the hell did the Joker manage to set off a bomb that killed everyone except Lau, some police officers and himself, yet at the same time the same officers who survived never tried to apprehend him before he left the building. problem with the role of the joker in now the standard is so high not just thanks to Heath and Nicholson but Mark Hamill also. Heath deservers more than the Oscar, he is one of the most psychopathic villains that I've ever witnessed in Cinema

If you pay attention you see all these little nuances that Heath does in the role, such as brushing his hair back feverishly and what looks to be licking his lips, to name a few

Heath lived for this role, he made this film what it is, Nolan is great as always and all the other casting quite good...HOWEVER It is The Joker who is just in a different league

No. I hate when people do this. Ledger was excellent, but you have to keep in mind the joker himself is a character one can work with. Hes spontaneous, theres room for freedom. As Batman or Gordon or Dent, you HAVE to act a certain way. I think Bale, Oldman,and Eckhart portrayed their characters as best as one could.

The Joker goaded Batman into breaking the glass/mirror earlier precisely so he could get his hands on a blade-like shard to use as a weapon. You can see the shard throughout this scene (it's directly behind his head). Nobody realized that the Joker was orchestrating the whole escape this way.

@ILLRICARDO The jokers aim was to try and corrupt batman so he told him the opposite locations as to were they Harvey and Rachel were, because he knew batman would choose to save Rachel, so Batman thought he was going to save Rachel but he found Harvey instead. The joker was trying to destroy Batmans Image bit by bit and was basically trying to turn him into what Harvey become but eventually the joker discovered Batman is truly incorruptable
