I'm not sure, the online site bios are so sketchy, but I think Peter Deyell was actually 16 when he auditioned, while Burt Ward was 19 when he auditioned, 20 when the show first broadcast, so like John Duncan in Batman and Robin (1948), he was closer to a short man in the part.
Douglas Croft in Batman (1943), with Lewis Wilson, was actually 16 when he played the part.
I think they missed the mark. It should have been Lyle Waggoner and Burt Ward. No offense to Adam West who did a fine job but Lyle has a stronger presence.
I disagree. Adam West was more intense. It didn't seem like Lyle Waggoner was taking the part seriously enough and said his lines too casually. Peter Deyell didn't act gung-ho enough, where Burt Ward did.
It's too bad that Adam West and Burt Ward didn't actually portray Batman and Robin this way in the series. Burt Ward actually seems like a pretty good actor here.
@spider9137 Agreed! His delivery totally blew away Pete Dyell's in that scene! Unfortunatley, the producers deceided to go with the campy style rather than the serious one. But at that time in history, maybe they were actually right. The same company made the Green Hornet series back then, in a really serious way, and it bombed in one season.
Never mind, found it.

The other Robin completely had a girl's voice.

Adam was the best at the part. Lyle wasn't even close, he's just not funny. Ward is also the clear choice, he's just so amped up.

I love Lyle Waggoner. Too bad his Robin was so lousy! On the other hand, I also liked Adam West....
