  • @revazakh thanks!

  • love your shredding bro....... sounds phenominal

  • i can get it but not fast so just play it non-stop untill fast?

  • @togood4798798 basically, unless there are technique problems that limit your speed (excessive movement, etc)

  • even the camera couldn't catch up with the speed of his playing.........lol

  • 00:39 im likin ur wa wa lol

  • 1:04 weird picking technique. I like it =)

  • The riff at 12 seconds is great.

  • Rapid tap 5 and 7. Hehe

  • DUDE!!!!!!!!!! this guy knows my guitar style Phrygian to minor YES!!! \m/(><)\m/

  • Your tone is GODLY. Your playing is really, really great too--do you have a band or something where I could hear more of your stuff?

Great lesson--this really helped me with getting a grasp on the scale.

  • your style is mind bending

  • Dude, that stuff you did the whole beginning blew my mind. that was frikken sick. i been workin on some similar things with that middle eastern flavor to it but dang, i kinda feel unworthy after that. haha, ima keep practicing tho till i get it down

  • @The8thGateofDestiny thanks and good luck!

  • What chords go with the harmonic minor ? like for example a g harmonic minor

  • @dimebag21491 harmonic minor is just a natural minor scale with a raised 7th. so any minor chord that works in key should work

  • from 0.12 to 0.18 what scale is that and where can i find that shape in internet

  • @CriZiS22F it's all phrygian dominant. at that part i was playing on one string so not a shape really...i played the open E string as a pedal, along with F G# A B C D...so open E, 1st, 4th, 5th, 7th, 8th, 10th, 12th, 13th, 16th, 17th, 19th, 20th, 22nd, 24th fret

  • @wkriski can you please tell all the frets you played from 0:12 to 0:18 in order you played them? It's not just ascending phrygian dominant

  • @leaderoflostsouls666 1 4 1 5 4 7 5 8 7 10 8 10 12 13 12 17 16

  • @wkriski major props to you kind sir! Do you have an album out? Would be really interested in hearing some more of your stuff

  • @leaderoflostsouls666 thanks@ just individual songs on my website, now i'm studying jazz but might be soloing on a friend's metal album

  • @wkriski will look it up, also - subscribed, please do notify ,on this channel, when said album comes outĄ

  • I would use E harmonic minor to solo over E major or use it to solo over minor keys?

  • @dverhonich minor keys

  • man you play like a orient god AUHSUHAShuaShuaShuASuhsa

amazing i want to play like you do 8D

    amazing good job

    thx for the lesson

  • @igor230693 thank you!

  • Looks like the guy fom the hangover lol

  • No locking nut? :O

  • @joellesperance took it off and put a wood block by the springs to remove the floyd rose function - also the whammy bar broke off years ago :)

  • @wkriski What is the size of the block? Like dimensions

  • @joellesperance maybe 1" x 1" x 1/4" in. it goes between the base where the springs connect ( the black base) and the guitar body

  • @joellesperance watch rob chappers how to hairdtail a guitar.

  • @JohnMartinV my pinky's all over this

  • What backing track was that?

I really just need to get how to bring my playing fast up and down the strings to sound nice.

  • @pimpmasterEionk you can get it at my website under 'my songs' loop in e. i made a backing track that sounded like the theme to Real Time with Bill Maher, using Reason 3,0

  • My band uses those diminished patterns in several solos, mixing both diminished and harmonic minor sounds awesome!

  • Hey!

Could you do a lesson about those cool arabic-hindu-like licks? Like, incorporating them into riffs or solos etc? I bet a lot of ppl would like to see sth like this. Cheers!

  • @Opozot yeah i like those scales too!

  • Ever thought about doing an instructional youtube video explaining exotic scales and all the modes of the harmonic minor scale as well as examples of licks based on them? It would be a valuable lesson for those of us trying to get better at neoclassical shred guitar. By the way, the pedal tone licks starting at 4:03 sound really cool, and to the ear, they transition very well into those diminished licks that followed. Keep up the good work!

  • @6672rock yeah with my last few years of jazz studies it's been tempting to get into that area

  • wtf is this shit. listen to marty friedman, loomis more... you might get some lessons on how to solo with a bit of feel.

  • @whiteliongate i haven't seen one able to do this but i'm doing jazz/fusion and other things now

  • @whiteliongate i hardly think its just noise, all type of music takes some emotion, just cause he isnt playing as slow as you can and isnt making stupid ass orgasm faces when he bends the string doesnt mean there is no emotion

  • Mayde skills!

  • 4:56 is pretty much the same as a part in Jeff Loomis' "Jato Unit"

  • @Shun101010 jato unit!!! haha

  • these solos would be great for death metal and blackened death metal

  • dude what's your guitar

  • the picking is not accurate i think? tremolo picking is ..

  • grow some hair ,you look like don't play guitar

  • @guy2j i can kick any long hair's ass :)

  • @wkriski haha indeed man (Y)

it's never about the look or the guitar

    it's about the player ;)

  • @wkriski try me ;)

  • @guy2j I loled.

Also this makes me wish I knew anything that he was talking about. :C guitar looks fun.

  • @guy2j ehhh, maybe he has a job that makes having long hair complicated, or just doesn't feel right to him having long hair, things like that shouldn't define who plays a certain instrument, statements like that are why so many people say things like "blacks don't play guitar they have to play rap" etc.

  • nice job

  • metal and flamenco use this alot

  • great lesson, it's fun to build riffs based off these scales thanks man

  • SOUNDS LIKE NILE!!! haha is this tabbed? if it is can somebody send me a message and i'll give u my email?

  • @celestial- almost every black metal band, and many of the SUPER shredders use this scale and its variants- harmonic minor also has another name" spanish flemenco", which is very influenced by middle eastern culture via the moors invasions of the middle ages...

  • sounds so exotic, like iraqi or ancient egyptian, sounds so sinister. nobody ever learns scales like this though

  • @CelestialSactuary803 thanks, it's awesome. arabic is cool too, 3 semitones in a row!

  • @wkriski check out the band acrassicauda, thrash metal from bagdhad, check the song garden of stones, i think theyre playin is some kind of spanish mode, idk.

  • I love this scale. You can do so much with it.

  • i hear Petrucci

  • help me to find the tab at your site, please.

  • @fghful i added a tablature link in the top menu

  • You have to want in youtube Phrygian.

  • fuck ur really good!!

  • very john petrucci

  • awesome!

  • hmm... rapes the bends a bit. but pretty sweet!

  • hmm, sometimes i wish i could also speed up time

  • What are you playing through exactly on this video?

  • @BartlesvilleGuy28 just a line6 podxt through computer speakers

  • man, you shred.

  • thats awezome

  • sounds like kurt cobain on the early nirvana stuff.

  • @Denapz yeah he could really shred

  • @wkriski he learned from the guy in eddie money's band.

  • LOL xD thumbs up!

  • What preset or tone? Is it a floorboard pedal pod xt? By the way your videos are very helpful. Thanks

  • I downloaded some patches from the site like satch marshall, vai, by demons. i have EMG pickups, and I guess tone comes from the fingers as well :)

  • downloaded from Line 6 edit or monkey thing? can you get it to sound that good through an amp with an xt?

  • @BartlesvilleGuy28 the line6 website. i haven't gotten a sound i like thru an amp, it changes the sound. for recording I use 2 different patches and 2 different rhythm tracks panned left/right sounds pretty thick -like the metal mayhem tune I did.

  • The first few seconds sounded like some death metal soloing, amazing video.

  • I have subscribed to the website but the tab is nowhere to be found, please help!

  • harmonic minor scales are so awkward i cant play fast with them

    i just go slow

speed is for the majors aha

  • @kumar1280 lol.

Me too xD, you can use regular Phrygian when you want to go fast though lol.

For some reason with Phrygian and Phrygian dominant, even though they have minor/major tonalities, you can interchange them without too much of a clash.

I like to do a E then Fadd9/E chord and play E Lydian then E phrygian, or Phrygian Dominant, if you use the major 3rd as a shifting point in can sound really dramatic.

    Try it!

    =D

  • allright, i suscribed now all i need is for u to give me the tabs. thanks so much! =D

  • please go to my website and subscribe below facebook section on right sidebar to get tab

  • Hey. Do you mind telling me what equipment you use to produce that noise? Or what settings on the amp? I'm failing at trying to imitate the same noise of your guitar + amp

  • i use line 6 podxt with EMG pickups on my guitar

  • i subscribed can u send me the tab

  • Awesome! favorited! although i am having trouble finding the tabs on your site

  • if you subscribe on right sidebar of site you will get an email with the tab

  • I subscribed to both youtube and the site and I didn't get the tab. Please email it to me. email: joskun7@(dot)com

  • i'll send it but subscribing to youtube and blog won't do it. please use form on sidebar below the facebook page.

  • awesome!! some of my favorite scales!! you shred man! 5 stars :) peace. connor

  • AMAZING guitar player and amazing teacher. thanks haha damn your video helped out a lot :)

  • hey...where can i get the backig track of this video....i need to do my solo practice...XD

  • go to link I just put in the description - this is a 'real time with bill maher them song' sounding song

  • This video was pretty cool actually!!!

You're a pretty rad guitarist dude!

Check out my video, I sort of do the same thing... (not as well :p)

  • Oh, by the way, Must you be in drop d tuning?? Can it be in standard tuning??

  • standard tuning is fine

  • Any tips for building up speed other than practice,practice,practice....That's what people told me to do..

  • yeah there's really no magic. play slow and clean, use metronome to gauge speed, minimize pick movement at really high speeds as inefficiencies will be limiting as you try to go faster.

  • wow.. u get right to the point and play the scale at perfect demo speed.. u sir are a good teacher.. 5 fuckin stars

  • thanks 'garth'! party on!

  • love this kinda shit thanks man..

  • holy shit your good"! man why arent you a super rockstar???

  • thanks! that's a good question! and merry xmas!

  • wow! you are great! nice sound! good video

  • listen to mlamsteen..same stuff in a neclassical enviroment

  • true although he doesn't usually use this mode...but i'm also teaching and trying to help :)

  • diminished arpeggios can be built from this scale. eg for E phryg.dom you can build dim. 7 arpgs off of F, so F Ab, B, D

  • whats the difference between phrygian dominant and the harmonic scale if they both consist of the same pattern? please answer

  • for any scale there are modes built off of each degree of the scale. so phrygian dominant is the name given to the 5th mode of the harmonic minor. 2nd mode of major scale is dorian, etc. each mode has a different sound.

  • harmonic minor consist of a Phrygian and an AeolianLike flip floping it back and forth

  • @smithfam4 They use the same notes but the phrygian dominant mode begins on a different note of the scale, creating the feeling that this new start note is the tonic or root note.

  • great phrasing

  • Thanks Dude!

You helped me out a lot.

  • great stuff...

great lesson, your licks are very cool!

"5th mode" is also called Phrygian Dominant right? - may help to stick that in your notes on sidebar for viewers to see, then they can google Phrygian Dominant for more examples and stuff, just an idea. cheers! keep up the good work!

  • what effects should u use for shreading

  • some good distortion should do, maybe a drive pedal a noise gate and a compresser. wammy and wah are fun to add it, but never a neccecity to shred

  • nicee dude!!

  • wow u are the best

  • thanks man you helped me get some ideas of shred

  • I can't wait until i get that good! I'm getting my first guitar by the time my school year ends (June 15)

  • you wont continue playing it, it takes true dedication, i would spend 1 hour a day just sliding my finders on the string, FUCK THAT HURT!!!! but no i dont feel a thing

  • I dunno, I'm pretty determined...

  • u shuld change ur name to fuck them ass holes

  • at beginning it sounds kinda shitty

  • you should change your name to iwishicouldplaylikeslaaaayer

  • well, i dont have money to get good gear, but im very happy with what i have.

My guitars are an LTD M-50 (basic 22 fret guitar, with some really great basic pickups), and an B.C Rich Warlock KKW ( wtf, expensive and not worth at all), and as distortion i use an Line6 Über Metal, that gives just the distorion i love, but could u tell me a good pedal that gives that echoe sound?

  • you want a boss dd3 digital delay, they're awesome :)

  • Much thanks, gonna look after this one.
