This is beautiful, however, I don't know that the birds add to it. They aren't in pitch, and it kind of sounds like bad background noise, like playing near a construction sight or large birdcage. Anyway-did you purchase this or transcribe it for piano? If its purchase-able I would love to buy it, I love this piece. However, if you're reading the open-score choral arrangement, you've got talent, because that's no easy feat!
There are no birds chirping. All the extra you hear is ambient echo. And I lifted this completely by ear at the time, although I got the sheet music later, and have now misplaced it. :( I could re-transcribe it and send you a sheet, however, if you are interested in acquiring the notes.
I'm David, from Australia, and I'm starting up a youth symphonic bands program to educate primary and secondary kids. Could you please send me a copy of the transcription, I'd be able to arrange it for band, and adjust the parts to meet different players abilities, to make it fun for all levels. Please, please send me a copy if you can,
I find it, however, that whoever said it about not having it on the mysterious sounds...if that's what their called, and accentuating melody a bit more would do well for this piece. I've never actually heard this on piano, but it does sound good. You did well, and you have the hands for piano.
thats pretty beautiful. I want to hear it on a piano and not the mysterious sounds on the keyboard.
My only suggestion would be to accentuate the melody more, because whitacre writes a lot of melodies in the middle and lower voices sometimes and the higher parts are a little too loud when that happens
It was very nice though I think it'd be even better if you slowed it down and played it with more emotion...seems like you're just kinda going through it mechanically and it doesn't sound as good. It has to have more push/pull feel to it than you're giving it right now. Maybe on your second recording it will be better, but it just sounds sort of mechanical on this recording.
Take a closer look, if you pay attention to how much worth I'm giving each quarter note, its not following a meter of time at ALL, thats because I'm putting a lot of emotion into it, but an electronic keyboard can only show so much of that. On a grand you'd be able to feel that more.
Actually I clocked your meter at around 55-60 bpm in most cases...I know this because I was able to conduct a steady beat with what you played. You pushed/pulled on the tempo a little...but you still definitely did not give it anywhere near enough push/pull to give it justice. You do have a valid point with the electronic keyboard/actual piano difference. That I'll give you.
Nah, I think that I'm the only one outrageous enough to actually do that.
By the way, as much as I love this video, if you have the time could you post it with your preferred settings? I'm sure it would sound a lot better without that ambient noise. Pleasseeee :)
You said in a previous comment you couldn't find the right setting. You messed around for like 15 minutes or something and still didn't have it? I would just like to hear this the way you originally intended.
Oh, well that would mean going back to guitar center. I have this rerecorded now, on a grand piano. I made the recordings today!! I will have new videos up tonight.
Well when I originally made this video, I spent 15 minutes fiddling with the stupid keyboard because I couldn't find the setting I wanted, so I had to pick a different one that had a really abstract effect. What you are hearing is the remnants of that.
It actually sounds a lot cooler in person, but on the video it just sounds like annoying feedback. =/ Maybe sometime I'll make another video that does justice.
yeah man i think if you lost the wierd sound in the back it would be cool with just the oregon (or how ever the hell you actually spell it) but no matter what man the choir always sounds better.
Nice accent. :-p

What's with the birds chirping in the background. I assure you that wasn't in the composers mind.

Beautiful...I love Eric Whitacre's music isn't it crazy that he's only in his mid 30s?
