it's solid state. setting the scruff higher makes it sound more like a tube amp. i own a JE150, and i dont think it does a very good job of doing that, i have it turned off.
Is there any footage of you playing live. Your playing is really smooth and clean. I also enjoy your cretique on amps and guitars. I try and see if I can apply them to the equipment I have.
Thanks for the comments and interest. I don't like much of what's on our website but do plan on loading it with new live performance stuff. Thanks again..............
@xxmanx1 I think the combo of the room and the reverb on the amp put it over the top. When I'm sitting up close to the amp it doesn't come off like that but the recording does. I don't do any editing so it's not really under my total control. I guess we could scrap it and do it over but whatever.
@marklippelmann Get either a one-12" speaker or a two-10" just because one-10" is a little thin. Find a place to try out amps and make your own choice.
@marklippelmann I just joined this modern jazz group and don't want to have to carry a Fender and this Evans amp to get two different sounds. I tried a Rat distortion pedal with the Evans amp with my Gibson 175 and it sounded great! I was suprised.
i don't think they plan on you turning it up all the way when they build it. They only put that much power in it so that it would have massive headroom is my guess...
the line 6 is no comparison to an evans amp in terms of clean tone. the evans amp sounds very natural and gives a very warm tone. i would advise you to try to hear one live if you possibly can to really understand the difference.
In the style of Ted Greene. I've taken a couple of lessons with Ted but have had his books since the seventies; Chord Chemistry and Modern Chord Progressions.
These books are so deep they're scary. You have to want it very badly to persist in learning what he has to offer. I know a few jazz standards and just mix that with my own inventions but really most of it is Ted. I don't feel like a master of that medium but sure love the way he can play. Check out Ted Greene on youtube. Thank you, JH
I recall going to Zenith Music in Perth, and I had a Ted Greene book under my arm-you were working at Zenith in those days, and you noticed the TG book and you asked me about it.
Well I went on to study the book, and yes very scary stuff-very scholarly-you could make it a life's work if you wanted..
Great to see you playing John, all the best to you and your family.
think the reverbs fine

The mic or during the game?

@johnhguitar
The microphone gain seems to have been set a bit too high, so those louder notes don't sound too great.
I'm sure you get a good sound though!

where do you record these videos?

At a friend's house. He set up his living room like a studio. He also does all the editing. Thanks.

If you had to choose between the 335 and the 175, what would you take? i can only afford one. I mainly play clean with some reverb or chorus.
Great posts on all guitars/amps reviewed!!

So is this S/S or tube? You explanation of scruff dial confused me?

It's a shame youtube has killed the treble so I can't hear the scrub control in action. Tubes amps can be bright yet not sound harsh.

NO. Go with Fender for that.

ok, that combo (guitar + amp) sounds just BRILLIANT, i wonder how would SSS stratocaster sound like with this amplifier

I did a country tune in the studio and went for a big telecaster sound with this amp. It was great!!!

The best jazz amp I've heard in years!
Thanks for posting!
Dave Evans

OH. Are you related to Evans? I love this amp for gigs. It's light, it's clear, it's easy to get many types of sounds.....Love it.

best clean amp I have ever heard :D:D

I'd like to see this amp compared to a Line 6 Flextone III XL 212 combo. (As a clean amp).
Same wattage at 150w.
IMO, the Line 6 reverb sounds better than any other digital reverb I've experienced.

Sounds like blues or rockabilly instead of Jazz.
