Here's the deal, the chest strap is not illegal in the EU. It is illegal for a company to sell a car seat with one one, but its not illegal to buy a strap and put it on yourself.
If you looking for a chest strap in the uk id suggest houdinistop.co.uk its been crash tested
@jaz3mummy , I don't know where you get your info that all seats have black harnesses. Dorel's seats have black harnesses, this is not a Dorel seat. Britax uses grey or tan on most seats, they have some that have black as well, and Sunshine kids uses grey harnesses. This seats DOM is sept. 05. It's still good for another year and a half. And it is a 5 point harness, just loose to show how easy and quickly she could get out with it that way.
Excellent demostration. I see straps this loose far too often. To clarify to anyone not realizing the point of this video, there are no aftermarket products on this seat. The plastic pieces on the harness come with Britax seats. That's not the point of the video. The point is to show how important it is for a child to be properly restrained. Chestclip at armpit level, straps tight enough to not "pinch an inch".
As a car seat tech (the one below me) you should know that the HUGS system comes with the Britax seats. It will not void the warranty as it was made with the seat and tested with it. They "patent" the HUGS system. I do believe she stated that this is an EXAMPLE of why the harness needs to be tightened. This is not showing what she does in the car. She tightens them proplery and is NOT using any after market products. Great video!
As a car seat tech I will say that this product is NOT recommended. Nothing should ever touch a car seat's harness. If your child moves the chest clip you need to stop the car and fix it. This clip won't help as it leaves a child in danger.
Secondly I think the shoulder strap is too short for her height (which may make it easier for her to get out) once I re-adjusted my daughter's shoulder strap to the next one up as she was getting taller - it seems to have fixed that problem!
You are right, the harness is below her shoulders. The reason it is, is because she's still rear facing in the car. For rearfacing the harness should be at or slightly below the shoulders, for forward facing it should be at or slightly above the shoulders
cute girl would hate to see her hurt or dead put the straps tighter no matter how mad she gets or how much she hates it her life depends on it one finger between her shoulder and the straps that is all the space no more that would kill her the chest clip breaks in a accedent so she would get so hurt
Actually, you're info is slightly outdated. You are supposed to use the pinch test now, if you can pinch a vertical fold then it's too loose. However, as I said before, the purpose of my making this video was to show other's how loose straps are dangerous. My daughter absolutly does not ride like this in the car.
Baby Huggables are stupid. They void your carseat warranty. Proper use of the carseat means no aftermarket products! No, you cannot push a chest clip down if the straps are properly tightened and the clip is in the correct position.
I also checked out your site. I looked at "questions" you never answered if it was approved by seat makers. Thousands of products are made that void the liabilty of a manufacturer and if you don't have approval from them your product is considered an "aftermarket product". I have emailed your link to 3 manufacturers and am awaiting responses. I will let you know what they say about your product voiding their liability or not.
@car4yourbabes opps sorry didnt know that. I am happy that you are very well informed about carseats. I wish all moms and dads knew the safty of them. I try myself to tell my friends that are moms or dads the safty of keeping their child refacing for as long as possibial and also in the 5 point harness system for as long as possibial.my 4year old daughter will be in her 5 point harness till 65 lbs. and I am going to get the my ride 65 for my 4 month old to keep refacing till 40lbs.
@jsrcamp When replies and such are removed it can be difficult to follow a thread. My 6 yr old and 4 yr old are in Regents and my 22 month old is in a My Ride 65. I wish I could afford the Radian seats to put my 4 yr old back RF since she keeps asking and if I got her a MY Ride 65 she would have about a year left to RF due to height now weight. She is 37 lbs and it takes her a long time to gain that 3 lbs.
But they will all be harnessed until they don't fit.
@car4yourbabes how do you like the My Ride 65? does it fit well in your car and what size car do you have? like i said it is the next carseat I am looking at for my 5 month old. she is only 13 lbs and 24 inches so I have a feeling she will be in the seat she is in till she grows too long for it. but she will be able to reface for Quiet a while. Please tell me what you like or dis like about it so I can Judge if taht seat is the Right one for my family? Thanks
No Offense I think you have a point, but why are the straps not tightened against her chest. Many peopple do not use the straps correctly trying to make their children more comfortable. My child hates her car seat, but at least she is safe.
The whole reason I made this video was for training. I have seen friends and random people put their children in their carseats like this and think it's safe. My point was to show one reason why it's not.
I see so many parents putting their kids into a car seat like this!! They think as long as they are buckled in, they're safe. Obviously, that isn't the case! The straps have to be tight! Thanks for the video.

Not true, that is a newer Britax, you can tell by the clip. They still have some color patterns with tan straps. And BTW, that IS a 5 point.

I think she was talking about the huggables mentioned in a previous comment (the aftermarket thing to prevent kiddos from moving the clip down).
Great video! :)

There is no aftermarket product. That's how the seats come. All HWH Britax seats have the HUGS.

I checked out your site. I don't understand how your product is supposed to work. Can you clarify?
dabushii 3 years ago
I think it is supposed to go above the chest clip and be difficult to push down therefor stopping the child from moving the chest clip.
Though it is a good idea, I am not sure the manufacturers would approve it's use.
car4yourbabes 3 years ago
@car4yourbabes actually the thing that is on this carseat actually come witt the carseat. so it is not an after market product.
jsrcamp 1 year ago
@jsrcamp When I replied there was a link for a site that had a product to put on the harness to keep the chest clip from being moved down.
I own 2 Britax seats I know the rubber things on the seat are the HUGS and come with the seat. I am very well informed on car seats.
