A fabulous mix of cars .. Porsche, Jaguar, Chaparral, Cooper, Elva, Ferrari, Sadler and my favourite, the Lotus 19. The sixties was a great era for sports car racing in North America. These sort of events were a prelude to the Can-Am series that started in the mid 60s.
Absolutely fantastic piece of history ! The Dailu MKI was such a beauty. Unfortunatelly the car was destroyed in a fire in 1963. They rebuild it in 1977, but it looks not even 50% as good as it looked originally. Interesting story about the driver Oliver Gendebien and his relation to the car:
During practice and qualifying, the car had been driven by Oliver Gendebien, a three time winner at LeMans and a Formula One driver. Gendebien saw the oil leak, climbed from the car, and left the race. Some say that he later admitted that the reason for not racing was the cars extreme speed and aggressive acceleration. It was a drastic change from his European rides and this apparently gave him discomfort.
