Hey Jared, question, How exactly does one "Practice", I've been playing for 2 years and a few months, I've Improved Greatly, however, how can i improve my skills, come up with licks, chops, grooves. Also, how can become a more "well rounded drummer" improving on all genres of music. Also, how do I warm-up? rudiments, grooves? etc.
Nice kit Btw! your eared it, i've been watching your videos for 1 year, and a half.. congratulations on the endorsements! Best Wishes, And PLEASE Reply
hey jared. i wanna ask you why most high end drummers don't mind their cymbals hitting each other. in most live videos the crash or china over the ride cymbal actually touches the ride when the drummer hits it.
thank you for this video! it really helps a lot new drummers and not onlyy! it pretty much helped me in being most comfortable with positioning my duble pedal and snare. THANK YOU!
@philthese985 Well for his kit its around 2,500-3,000 I would say. As for cymbals he got them for free I would think because of his Paiste endorsement. But those I would probably say around 1,500? Cow bell about 30-40. Petals around 600. and for stands I'd say around 500 maybe more depending on what kind they are.
Great lesson! :) I've been playing thr drums for more than 10 years now and this video still has some really amazing tips and explanations for me to try! :) Thanks for sharing this for free with us, Jared! :)
I own a druck rack. & I find it somewhat hard to setup it up with my toms and cymbals. & I know you don't really use drum racks yourself from the past videos i've seen. Any tips or suggestions will be really helpful. Thank you. & Good video lesson.
all those stands...you could get both left side crashes, both splashes and the tom on just the one stand... sorry bro just one of my pet peeves is seeing all this tripod stand with a tiny little 6 inch splash on it..its like why? clamp on booms are eaiser and cheaper..
Jared i have my kit in my room and its a smallish room and my kit is kinda cramped. do i move it back to the damp (terrible for my cymbals) basement? or do i purge my bed?
Do you have overhead mics because it sounds really good even though it's not miced (as far as I can tell)? Or do your drums just sound that amazing? Nice video!
Very very nice sounding kit and cymbals! It's really cool to have people like you teaching us online! Because not all drummers have the funding to go for lessons. Really appreciate all this you're doing man! Thanks Jared and the team!
You should try out a drum rack they make the setup a lot easier. If you ever want to add another tom I would suggest a floor tom on the left. It took some getting use to but it has become a great tool for me. Just a suggestion and thanks for the vids!!!
Nice video jared as always, I wonder if you can do a lesson of how to "prepare" a room for drums (noise, etc). Maybe sounds strange but could be useful. Thanks for all the work that you've done and sorry for my bad english.
where u put your ride is where i have my china cause my mid tom i dont use so i only use 2 toms i place the ride above the bass.... i want to start using that tom so where can i put the ride cause my chinas in the way and i like where my china is
Hey Jared, like this video a lot; it's great for those stuck positioning things. However, it'd be really nice if you could provide some tips for two bass drum set-ups, placement of hardware stands to avoid clutter/hitting, and a few types of various clamps or stands in which to choose from (I've seen some interesting block clamp requirements, or odd spaces to place them in but can't quite fit).
hey jared, i've got two cymbal clamps for mounting my toms, and i like to put them both on my crash cymbal, which enables me to put my 12" tom in the place where your 10" is, and my 10" to the left of that. this enables me to get my ride closer, which i like. the 10" tom kinda get's in the way with the hi-hat though, and the close ride is kinda in the way when iu', doing rolls between my mid tom and floor tom. which should get priority: the 10" tom or the hi-hat? and the floor tom, or the ride?
Interesting video, Jared. I agree with you- comfort is key when building a personal kit. The performance will suffer if the drummer is not 100% comfortable. I was wondering though- no love for China cymbals? ;)
@MightymanofGod21 Thanks for your kind comments. I actually have added a china to my setup since I got endorsed by Paiste :) It's a 16" Signature China.
@drumlessonscom Hey, about the tom thing. What if two people share a kit, (me and my brother) and the owner of the kit refuses to change any thing (being the tombs being SUPER angled) and the user of the kit hates it, but enjoys playing. Is this hurting him?
@drumlessonscom should the screw on the top of the cymbals be fairly loose, or more tight???????? Also, I was wondering your opinion on mutes??????????
Can you make a lesson about adjusting settings on a pedal? Everyone always talks about spring tension and beater distance etc. but i don't really understand what all those things are and how to actually adjust them. Thanks
How big is your kick drum? I'm kicking myself in the butt because I got a 24'' and I can't place them the same way you do. I'm forced to keep them to the left of my kick with the 12'' at the position of your 10'' and the 10'' tucked in beside the hi-hats since they would end up being too high up over the huge kick drum.
Jared I plan on getting my first set...I've been playing on my Dad's Ludwig vista-lites for...a couple of years and Im no where near a beginner, any ideas of a good shell kit? (Btw I'll be playing church style music)
Hey jared, have you ever put ur ride where you 12" tom is, and had your 12 and 14 to your right and your 16 to your left by your snare. Just curious since this is the setup I use.
@markmodder Thanks man! We filmed videos talking about our micing and eq'ing techniques. Those will be out in the next couple of weeks so stay subbed and you'll get em :)
i have a problem with my set. i got the usual 3 toms snare bass drum and i got my ride up. and i have to somehow arch my china over it and it kinda looks weird but if i move it to the side of the ride its too far away. any suggestions?
@drumlessonscom by weird i mean out of place. i like everything close and then there is one cymbal stand far away from the kit. i guess its just my ocd kicking it. but it feels good though. i just wanted to see what u would recommend. thank you!
nice video , only thing i kinda feel weird when i watch u is ur ride , doesnt seem natural to me since its to far away , as u said is personal choice and asu say , if that works for u is perfectly fine :) . i move my toms to the left so i can have my ride where ur 12 rack is , personal choice again .
do a video of how you hold your sticks because they are alot of different ways and when i do fast fills i find it hard to find a good way to hold it when im doing a fill
Very good video. I noticed why sometimes I would have trouble playing just because the drum set wasn't set up properly. Since I was using my school's drum set it changes constantly because a lot of people use it and change it to their liking.
gosh I really love this set up! hope i grow 6'3 so I can have my toms that way! I have tried and tried to get less of an angle on them just cant do it.. I'm to short my throne has to be lower then yours... (sad face)!
Does mounting on the cymbal stand and mounting on the bass drum make a difference in sound? Some people say it does but i'm not entirely sure.. but i am going to try to buy a kit that mounts their toms on stands in the future, ive looked into some dw's or crush drum kits. Can you tell me a good suggestion for a kit thats not too pricy? thanks. :]
i have 12 and 13" toms, and i have them setup like a "mickey mouse" shape in contrast to the snare (toms are the ears, snare is the face) and the toms are always super close to the bass! if they rest on the bass, the sound is cut off. but i like how the toms are set up for me (height, angle, etc)...can you help me?
@Maidenfan4497 hey man i have 10,12,13 rack toms. i went through the same issue before i got my pearl drum rack. i am 6'3'' but i sit low. you can get separate stands for them or raise your seat a tiny bit along with your toms. Just make sure to keep the height even between them..
check out how i did it. the older vids don't have the rack and you can see how i morphed into it.
@Maidenfan4497 are the toms attached to the bass? if so you could try getting separate stands for the toms or if the toms aren't attached to the bass you could try moving the bass around. hope this helps :)
@Maidenfan4497 You gotta go with comfort first. There maybe are multiple options that will make you feel more comfortable so I recommend experimenting and figuring out if you can find a solution that will provide you with both comfort and optimal sound. Cheers!
@NickWishesHeWasCool The ideas I talk about in the video can EASILY be applied to whatever type of kit you have. An electronic kit, pots and pans, books, kitchen counter and sink, etc. I use these same principles when setting up my practice pad kit as well, which is very similar to an electric kit. Hope that helps!
@drumlessonscom Yeah that is true, I definitely used the throne and double pedal tips to my advantage. Thanks Jared, I really appreciate the videos. :)
Your lucky, you have 2 floor toms.

@Maidenfan4497 are the toms attached to the bass? if so you could try getting separate stands for the toms or if the toms aren't attached to the bass you could try moving the bass around. hope this helps :)

@DOORHEAD5 nope, theyre mounted off a cymbal stand, and after moving stuff, they still sometimes touch the wood of the bass......

@Maidenfan4497 You gotta go with comfort first. There maybe are multiple options that will make you feel more comfortable so I recommend experimenting and figuring out if you can find a solution that will provide you with both comfort and optimal sound. Cheers!

I hate how there's all these really useful lessons, but I can't apply them to my electronic kit :p

@NickWishesHeWasCool hal. i used to be like that but then for christmas i got a simple 5 set kit for like $200- and just build off of that.

@prodrummerboy13 I know, but I live in a condo :( Still, thanks for the great lessons Jared :)
