  • This is real music.. I hate all the other bullshit that's coming out. Wish there was more new young rappers that would take on this style.

  • he was the ONLY one that did something to tribute Roger troutman. All the rest of yall are wack as fuck for not paying the Master of the talkbox. A decade late and we still miss u RIP Roger

  • i guess 1 person doesn't respect a tribute message that says RIP Mr. Troutman, from one of his best friends....

  • Man such a dope song, how many new fake ass rappers would give a tribute to Roger Troutman? DJ Quik kept it true with the same sound. Unlike all these fucks today! He's one of the best in my book..

  • Amazing. I don't know which I like more between this one and quik's groove VII

  • Tha TIGHTEST beat U made. Fa'reel U held it down. CA all day!!

  • composition to commemorate is super!!!! But there is nothing to find of it here....

  • Sometimes when I listen to this cut, I wonder if DJ Quik suprised the Troutman family by performing this song live at the family dinner after the funeral..

Could you imagine all the deep emotions of sadness, and tears of pain, being overcome by shock, joy, and utter disbelief...

I know hearing this song, at that particular time, would only acknowledge that Roger's Legacy and Music is not lost, but lives on thru a real musician

    DJ Quik.

  • man dj quik is the muthafuckin truth!!!!! i love dr dre but to me quik is on of the the best if not the best producer on the west coast and here is a fine example!!! R.I.P. ROGER TROUTMAN

  • When i hear this i need a blunt; when i have a blunt i need to hear this.

  • dis beat make a nigga wanna roll da windows down feel da breez an cruize down da coast classic off top

  • Such a gorgeous tribute...I'm sure Roger would have been proud of this. Ditto for Snoop's 'Sensual Seduction' , lol... :P

  • @jmbaugh81 DJ QUIK AINT DEAD,

  • A Heil Talk Box is NOT the same as Vocoder...I am reading all of these comments about the good the bad and the ugly concerning auto tune,etc.....the fact is that Troutman used this device to SHAPE a sound. It is NOT Auto Tune!.

A Heil Talk box is for the guitar.(I.E Jeff Beck)

ALL Auto Tune comments should be null and void...

PLEASE just say something nice for Chrissakes!

If Roger and Quik saw all these bullshit comments, they would laugh at all of you!

    R.I.P Mr. Troutman.

  • well i am from the south-central LA moved to PIttsburgh,pa and people out here dont know nothing about quik that dude is no joke and my kids love this song love the hell out of the west coast #1 travis.steven

  • well i am from the south-central LA moved to PIttsburgh,pa and people out here dont know nothing about quik that dude is no joke and my kids love this song love the hell out of the west coast #1 steveo

  • the shit....I meet so many kids these days that don't get it...at least we've got Quik.

  • Quik always been official!!!!!. nuff said.

  • Roger was down to earth and always willing to share his knowledge to any person who asked. I was a young drummer in Dayton at the time and jazz was my preference, but you couldn't help but get caught up in the Funk scene in Dayon at the time because of all the bands there. This was before all the computer enhancements and you had REAL musicians. Roger was an excellent guitarists and was very diverse, but of course he too loved the funk scene. He showed me the ropes and my skill grew!!!

  • i luv cruising to this song

  • R.I.P. Roger much love

  • RIP Roger Troutman

Long live the legend DJ Quik

  • I wanna say Rest in peace for you Mr. Troutman.

  • hot!!!

  • Love to listen this after hard day before going to sleep... Groooove..

  • Quik most definately did Roger right...he's the only one whoz doing the talk box right...Quik learned from the man(Roger Troutman )himself. R.I.P. Mr. Troutman

  • @MrLakerslakers oh yea.....he put it down exactly how it shudda abeen doe homles.

  • the real auto tune shit

  • @Zmw192 NOT AUTOTUNE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @salkku yeah whatever you know what i mean...

  • @Zmw192 nope! - no one does! never ever ever ever mention auto-tune and talkbox in the same sentence, unless it's too bash how fake auto-tune is compared to the box! - thats like comparing bush and christ man!

  • @sthazeb i wasn't i was dissin auto tune i was sayin this is the real shit and where it came from haha

  • @sthazeb fuck you hater, auto tune is cool... you fuckin haters never touched any microphone or isntrument all you can do is hate you ofaggots, for me its laughable as an artist because i always thrown on people like you.... close minded CONSUMERS you dont make shit, you just buy what we create, be happy you have shit to hate on pussy.

  • @peterscoop well if i wasnt a musician myself this wouldve been a valid comment, but i do enfact play talkbox myself - i own a Dunlop Heil Talkbox! ;) so fuck u too u fuckin "cock"loverautotunegettingitintheassonadailybasis run of the mill jackass!

  • @sthazeb if im a cock then your a pussy and at the end of the day iam the one fuckin you, diot. also you play talkbox? nice i play everything, good bye hater fag.

  • @peterscoop can't you fools find something anything else better to do than to curse each other for crying out loud you both sound like childish idiots. Grow up already

  • yea.. groove's shit.......

  • Yo lik no bullshit i wish quik can mak another roger's groove lik the way he makes his quik's groove that roger's groove is tight very chill, much respect to roger & quik.

  • That niggah Quik always had some cold as intermission grooves joe!

  • good shit r.i.p roger i was a big fan and still is luv ya quik

  • the good old dayzzzzzzzzzzz

  • really nice tribute song DJ Quick im sure Roger would have loved this song, me too. "Keep the talkbox alive" nice one. R.I.P Roger Respect.

  • Keepin' the memory alive. I must admit to getting a bit misty eyed whenever I hear this track. Music lost a true pioneer the day Roger died, but his music will live on... long after the bland shit that passes for R&B these days dies out. R.I.P. Roger.

  • how did roger die?

  • @ nibno... Shot by his brother Larry....

  • brother Larry shot him in Dayton Oh. (20 min up the road from me) then himself in a murder suicide.....horrible tragic loss for music

  • R.I.P. The Legend Mr. Roger Troutman

  • Roger Troutman we love and miss u, this groove is hot this is a song u can just get in your car and ride

  • QUIKS GREATEST GROOVE. LUV YA BOO

  • Eiht is still dope both are dope ...

  • Quik is so genuinely melodic in his music. So soulful. And that line to Eiht is still the greatest battle line of all time! Respect to Quik, RIP to Mr. Troutman!

  • I love this track. Dj Quik is a genius. I wanna talkbox. Keep it alive. R.I.P Roger Troutman. The talkbox Master.

  • It always seems that dj quik is a different person when he is on the talk box. Like this side of him comes out that in rap you rarely or never get to see. You really have to know Quik's music to really know it's him. It's just raw talent. I think that's why he hasn't been as active in the game as before. His talent is too much just to be unappreciative towards it. The public is just not ready for it and I think he sees it like that. Pearls before swine...

  • @Jesus1229 I agree. Quik needs to get out of hip hop and move to a genre like smooth jazz or funk or r&b. He's too talented to be wasting it in hip hop where the majority of fans have little to no appreciation for real quality music.

  • @jgk381 I agree. I'm over "Hip Hop" like Nas said, it's dead. It's not like it used to be.. these "artist" of today with the exception of some, just plain and simply aren't cutting it. I'm more into R&B and music with emotion

  • @CeazeThaBeast I second this.

  • mr troutman rest in peace we love you

first fuckin thing he says, and he goes on to sing MORE BOUNCE TO THE OUNCE

and this is probably quiks greatest track

  • MAN!!!!!!!! The way this sounds it really upsets you that he is so underrated when it comes to producing, I use to sit on my prison bunk and jus fly away off this groove for Roger.........

  • i.e., Peter Frampton.

  • 100/100 homie 5 stars*****

    "migue3333"

  • Lets make it clear to every one you have to know how to play a keyboard to truly master the talk box.

Auto tuner is cool but its kind of cheating rember Roger can play several kinds of instruments. but hey shit its whatever.

  • I have not heard the entire album, but the few tracks I did hear was dope. I am going to pock it up today along with Maxwell's album. Quik is like a second degree black belt with this music shit, the older he gets the better he gets. He can get into his zone quickly and put out amazing albums in no time.

  • DJ Quik is one of the best producers of all time in music history, not just hip hop. His sonic ability is out of this world. R.I.P. Roger Troutman. (Quik is killing T-Pain on the talk box with this record)

  • Yeah but T-Pain only uses the Autotune....

There's a really distinct difference between the Talkbox and the Autotune......

  • Great point bro, I guess I was just thinking about the sonic quality of quiks productions and him freaking that style. plus I heard T-Pain say no one was repping Roger Troutman like him and quik did this before T-Pain got in the game. The talkbox seems more difficult to master then Autotune though.

  • Yeah because you got to attach the talkbox to a workstation keyboard in which you have to 'play'!

  • Lol, why don't more people know that? Talkbox and Autotune are really different. Autotune just fixes pitch problems. The Talkbox is something where you need to put a tube in you mouth, sing into it, all why playing a little keyboard to the tune you want to come out. That take tremendous talent. Autotune is exactly what it's named... AUTOtune. Plus they sound different.

I love this track. Quik is one the only REAL composers left in the hip hop industry.

  • Quik is a surely a fool fo this one the greatest tribute to da late roger troutman! but i didnt get ur point on da sonic ability n stuff??

  • What I mean is that he seems to have an advance knowledge in sound design and also the enginering aspect of music production. He not only creates a dope beat but he also creates a sonic evironment to where the vocals and instruments occupy the correct space within the record so that it can sound clear but grimmy or soulful if he wants it to. But this is just my oppinion of his work. You should check out SCRATCH magazine's article on him, it can most likely explain the point I am trying to make.

  • yea i got u now! Quik is one of the few who's perfection in his music comes within the mixing parts of it, and that wat seperates him from other producers is that he could "show off wit his production abilites" in his albums (for example lik all the Quik's Grooves hes got over the years) And especially when it comes to the newer sound he perfects that easily (wit new technology etc.) did u check out BlaQKout w/Kurupt? DAMN he did that lik in 4-5 months only...

  • @DMCclassic Which issue of SCRATCH is it? I miss that publication. I have about 6 issues off hand, and I'd love to check out that piece on Quik.

  • @02Stratus Sorry to get back to you so late its the one with Eminem on the cover (Madlib has a feature in that issue too)

  • great track * * * * *

  • Quik killed this trak and the TALK BOX. Roger Troutman taught him how to play it, thats why it sounds so good.

  • I dig all of Quik's grooves...but this is the one that sends me into some of my deepest modes of thought and meditation. As someone that was in band from almost 5th grade, I can tell Quik has a deeprooted appreciation for live instruments much the same way as I do. This type of style set Quik apart from the rest of those in Music Production. The guys very very very underappreciated in the game.

  • Masterpiece

  • a long respected classic ..im high and wanted to her ....ggrrrrrrrroooooooooooooooooooveee 4 uuuuuuuuuuuuuu

  • R.I.P Roger troutman we miss you ..........OHIO

  • i like diz roger's groove......... much respect 2 dj quik 4 deciated dis one 2 roger troutman................ r.i.p. roger troutman we miss u so much da first singer who started da robot voice............

  • actually youre wrong...Stevie Wonder did if before Roger...long before Roger...and so did several popular rock guitarists too...back in the 70s

  • thank you roger for leaving us something to remember you by.

  • grooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooove FOR uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

    FUNKY SHIT RIGHT HERE

  • Quik is the only one who gives respect. As soon as RRoger died, Cher came out with that "believe in love" shit and it made me want to cry that the man's legacy was being tarnished already and biters were in the midst...waiting. No one else even does it right. By the way, quik is hiphop's best producer. The way he layers his beats is comparable 2 none other than Organized noise. Dre, Preem, depend on samples 4 the majority of their work. Try 2 count the instruments this brother uses in one song.

  • Hear, hear...Quik is one of the best behind the boards. He's a true music fan which is why his ish is so textured - he's educated in the funk :)

  • Roger Troutman

    OHIO Respect

    R.I.P.

  • R.I.P. Roger Troutman

Not only did he teach DJ Quik all about the talk-box but without him we wouldn't have More Bounce To The Ounce or California Love.

  • Roger taught Quik talkbox its a shame no other rappers did a tribute song in Rogers memory. Everybody and their mama sampled Roger.

  • passion4bosh:Actually theres a whole all-star tribute album to Roger Troutman.I have it all on my page.Check it out.

  • i used to listen to this in highschool in 99 or so when this came out.. while all my commercial rap friends didnt know why this song was soo cool..

  • there not supposed to know.. there supposed to listen

  • BEST OF BEST ***

    THA OLDSKOOL

  • Notice how Quik doesnt have haters polluting the comment boxes on his songs?

He's straight up too amazing for bullshit.

  • i love the talkbox sound i have it 2 with vocoder and a bit distortion!

  • In the words of Redman:

"PRES REWIND IF I HAVEN'T BLOWN YOUR MIND"

    This is a timeless track.

  • R.i.p Roger troutman

  • Quik is better on tha talk box than T pain. ON THA REAL. HOLLA IF YA HEAR ME.

  • true that son

  • for the 94747564 times, we must explain yet, t pain dont plays the talkbox or even not the vocoder, its the autotune he plays..

  • y would a self respecting man know aobut t pains business stop defending a queer

  • yea i had to explain to all da kids in my school a million times i guess we gotta explain here too,its autotune that tpain uses it takes no actual talent y do u think wayne is using it now

  • t pain can still sing without tho trust i think he snd betta without it

  • T-Pain doesn't play the talk box man.....He uses a vocal effect in an audio program(Autotune)...I have both Autotune and a talkbox, and autotune is the easiest thing to use, but there is still some technique to it, but no keyboard just a regular microphone...You play all the keys on a keyboard for a talkbox, and the plastic tube subs in for the user's vocal chords...

  • exactly.. autotune is ridicilous.. if you can get good production behind you, you may as well cash in with the autotune right now hahaha

  • insane

    outta this world

  • this is the shit

  • man a nigga can ride to this shit from sunrise to sunset!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great track.

  • That's real, I get that same feelin' everytime I hear this. I get all choked up. I grew up on Zapp and Roger, and I still hate the way Roger passed. He was a legend and an originator of a lot of the styles in West Coast hip-hop. R.I.P.

  • howd he pass?

  • his brother capped him

  • dam thats some fucked up shit.. RIP

  • Bout 30 minutes from here.

    :/

Bootsy / Hi Tek / Roger Troutman are the big Cinci 3.... (guess Isley Bros too... but meh) But Roger was Cinci's finest.

  • this almost brung a tear to my eye

  • me too!!!

  • every musician has to appreciate this...

  • roger must be goovin in heaven to this

  • this is da bomb

  • dj QUIK IS SO UNDER RATED...DEFINITLY

ONE OF THE DOPEST PRODUCERS IN THE BUSINESS...

  • RIP ROGER!

  • true westcoast g-funk!

  • Further proof that Quik is a genius. RIP Roger.

  • rip roger. da brimhats are rocked n tilted in ur honor

  • R.I.P. Roger Troutmen ..you're missed deeply..you're ina better place now ..Peace and One Love...

  • This song shows how incredibly talented DJ Quik is. Gave me the Chills when I first heard this back when it first came out! Amazing! RIP Mr Troutman! Thanks for the perfect tribute Quik!

  • CCorrection> I don't want to say ROGER troutman built the talk box....thats sketchy..I can say he was the first artist to fully incoporate the sound and technology of the talk box into R&B and rap. Had a lot of success with this organic sound. Roger worked with Quik, Dre, 2Pac and a host of R&B artist. Saw him for the last time In Kansas City, he was off the freaking meter!!!! A showman and originator... Killed by a family memember in a petty dispute. RIP MR.Troutman and thx for the music!

  • Zapp is still out there doing there

  • Sorry I was saying Zapp is still out there doing there thing. I saw them not to long ago and Roger would be very proud of his brother's and the rest of the band. If you get a chance to see them do it you won't be disappointed.

  • search him on google wikipedia

  • who is roger...i need to be school

  • Roger troutman the greatest dude ever to hold a talkbox

    search on here

you know california love by 2pac? he did it first

  • Roger Troutman is the shyte!

    Funk Master!

    king of the talkbox!

    Da king of Funk!!

  • Thanks roger R:I:P

  • thanks fo playin this groove fo us
