kovalam is slighly different now compared to 10 years ago but, you have to remember that people who want to visit india for a taste and are not used to packing a bag and going under their own steam need to feel safe. kovalam offers good food, nice beaches and a relaxed way of taking a holiday, maybe they dont want rave's, drugs and getting the shits ! kovalam is what it is, a good start for people to sample india.
Kovalam has been trashed!! In 1998 there was none of that ugly development on the beach front. There were some shops and restaurants way back in the palm trees. It was still busy, but beautiful. And there were beaches within walking distance that were untouched, just fishing villages. But you would always love to come back in the evening, because the main beach was so beautiful. In the 90's this beach was beautiful, fun, and a great place to relax. So sad that it's been ruined. I won't go back.
