We use TH Marine Hot Foot, Foot Throttle Controls in them. This is needed so you can keep both hands on the wheel while operating at high speeds. They are easy to install on almost any boat.
you're supposed to put the ear muffs on when you run the motor out of water so you don't burn the water pump...my yamaha tech told me the flush hose on the side of the motor is only for flushing purposes not for running the motor...
@fishaholic2012 . Ummmm....Actually with any Yamaha Motor over 150HP you should run the hose on BOTH the flush and the muffs or you will overheat it. If you take a better look you will notice that there is 2 water hoses running to it. Most Yamaha Techs would tell their customers that so they dont burn up the pump. I dont advise that anyone but a Yamaha Tech run any motor out of the water period.
@BoatBoysLLC o wow sorry i didn't see the other hose and i think my yamaha tech told me that because i only have a yamaha 15 hp 4 stroke kicker motor next to my 115 hp evinrude so i guess it doesn't need to be hooked up on both places like a big engine does...and i'm thinking about changing my 2003 evinrude/bombardier ficht to a yamaha 115 four stroke because it keeps breaking down even though i take great care of it but do you know how the fuel economy is on the F115?
@fishaholic2012 LOL Thats Okay, The Yamaha 115 gets great economy. I think I usually get around 1 GPH with our 22' Tritoon with the F150 on it, WOT at 6K RPM, 40MPH. Yamaha has really focused on fuel economy, take into consideration that the advertised economy is the worst case senario. They dont want to make false statements.
@BoatBoysLLC We were stunned when we crunched the actual numbers. If you usually run the 250HPDI 2-Stroke in Bass Tournaments every weekend, the cost of the fuel to do this with the 2-Stroke will pay for the new boat/motor and the fuel to run on.
@BoatBoysLLC right now i'm getting about 2 gph with my 115 hp evinrude ficht on cruising speed which is 4,000 rpms does the yamaha get better? i know they're great on gas because my yamaha 15 hp 4 stroke uses only 3 gallons of gas in 5 hours on wot....i know this because i broke down 50 miles away from the ramp and i used my kicker to get back, that thing is a life saver...
@perfectpete1974 , I beg to differ. These motors are detuned from the factory so much that unrestricted the 200HP model will make an easy 400+ HP. I dont hate the Mercury's though.....with out them my service shop wouldnt have any work to do :)
@Tlarsen289 despite the gears not being engaged the movement of the oil can sometimes cause the prop to spin slightly. The same will happen if you jack up your car and start it
here is a video of a boat boys boat we bought 3 years ago and still tearin it up..search for "skeeter river run"..thanks boats boys, still lovin my rig!!!!!!
It has plasma coated cylinder walls, composite cowling and a ultra lightweight mounting bracket. They removed 30Lbs just by yanking the sleeves out and gained a liter of combustion area. Then they threw on the ram air induction, unrestricted muffler, etc, etc....Love it!
I have a 175 hp Vmax on my boat. I dont see too many of those, mostly 150's

I don't know how that engine weighs the same as a 250 pro xs merc.
A few ecu mods would push that engine above 450hp i would think
