@Congeal101 Oh, they've been through a lot more than internment camps and as far as compensation goes, if you can prove that you're of a tribal bloodline you'll get monthly payment from the government. (My brother-in-law receives this for being Cherokee). In addition, some receive land I suppose which are notably used for "Indian Casinos". Same with the Japanese put in interment camps. They were paid $20,000 along with additional payment for lost land.

The injustice of living in America is that if you're born American Indian in America, and want the government to respect that, you have to apply for a CIB (Certificate of Indian Birth) which you may only get if you belong to a set amount of tribes AND are actively involved with the tribe. Most dont.
@wobbledobbleish each registered tribe defines this differently, and the officials notify the government that this person is actively involved. Most commonly this is participation in certain events or a certain amount of events, living on community lands, etc. It's usually not ridiculous stuff. However your CIB will read that you belong to that tribe, not your own. Another way is if you can trace your bloodline to someone with an existing CIB living on a reservation only. Not easy either.

@Congeal101 Oh, they've been through a lot more than internment camps and as far as compensation goes, if you can prove that you're of a tribal bloodline you'll get monthly payment from the government. (My brother-in-law receives this for being Cherokee). In addition, some receive land I suppose which are notably used for "Indian Casinos". Same with the Japanese put in interment camps. They were paid $20,000 along with additional payment for lost land.

@wobbledobbleish i just wanted to clear up the compensation issue.. i've bumped into a lot of people who think that american indians walk around being supported by government checks.. not the case. The injustice of living in America is that if you're born American Indian in America, and want the government to respect that, you have to apply for a CIB (Certificate of Indian Birth) which you may only get if you belong to a set amount of tribes AND are actively involved with the tribe. Most dont.

@wobbledobbleish each registered tribe defines this differently, and the officials notify the government that this person is actively involved. Most commonly this is participation in certain events or a certain amount of events, living on community lands, etc. It's usually not ridiculous stuff. However your CIB will read that you belong to that tribe, not your own. Another way is if you can trace your bloodline to someone with an existing CIB living on a reservation only. Not easy either.
