  • He didn't have to look at artists in the orchester, he hada had evriting easily memorised in his mind and cells. What a GREAT conductor and artist he was and still is. I was born to be conductor, but did nothing abut it. Shame!

  • The Simpsons sent me here

  • Merci pour cette belle vidéo de Karajan !!!! Amitié Raymond !!!!!

  • I didn't know this piece until I heard that part starting at 2:26 in "Violinist of Hameln: the Movie". XD It was such an epic scene that I had to look up the full performance.

In the movie, Hamel (the violinist) plays the tune on a violin, causes a girl to rise to the air and destroy Medusa with a combo of music and physical power (it's a pretty fun series, even though this sounds weird).

  • this is my all time fav overtures 5 likes bro

  • I'll save you, Nell!

  • Bravo!

  • Superb playing, great conductors can do wonders even with the not so good orchestras, but obviously these are first rate players

  • hehe find ich toll hihi

  • You can tell that Von Karajan had a lot of fun conducting this overture. So am I!

  • @beethovensbeloved ..How can you tell......half the time he seems to be asleep. Did you notice Donald Trump playing the rotary valve trumpet at about 6:00?

  • 5:45 Pals of the Saddle from John Schaum piano course.

  • @BarryRosenblau I think that's an insult to the trumpeter's hair.

  • LOL Mickey and the grand opera :D

  • majestic...

  • what time is he conducting in?

  • @andrewoidicious It keeps changing. Starts at 4/4 then 2/2 then 6/8 etc.

  • I'll save you, Nell!

  • 0:54 hairflip!

  • Before I get pilloried for not liking this video some explanations are in order:

    1. I'm a huge classical music fan.

    2. I love Von Suppe's overtures.

    3. I love Karajan and think the Berlin Philharmonic is THE best orchestra in the world.

    4. Technically I like this recording.

BUT .... when the quality of the sound is similar to a bad Internet phone call it ruins everything. That's why I "disliked" this.

  • @MikeWiggins1235711 Before I get penalized for not liking your comment, let give YOU an explanation.

    1. This is a good video, not for the actual"video, but because of the audio.

    2. I only dislike a comment if it is ofensive or stupid. (also comments including yours.

    3. I believe you are being a little arrogant for constructing your comment in such fasion to seem "Proper".

I do not believe a reply is in order from you, so we can leave it at that.

  • So,how many of you were doing a little armchair conducting throughout that one l wonder..l know l was. lt's hard to resist and...well,we all have our dreams, don't we ?

  • i get to play this song in My cities symphony!! i love this song!!! i made first chair second violinist, which is really something where i am, and i am the youngest first chair holder by two years, im in the advanced highschool symphony!! love this song!!

  • Playing this in band.

  • I use this music, when my girlfriend rides me :P

  • I love to play this piece!!!!

  • Responding to the Nazi question. Karajan WAS NOT a Nazi. In fact he hated the Nazis and they wanted to get rid of him, but he was much too popular with the public, so in spite of his disagreements, he was still director of the Berlin Opera. At least that's the way I heard it. But you can always check Wikipedia.

  • @seguidaz My mistake, he was a member of the Nazi party in 1933, but his membership was taken away for some reason - maybe because hid second wife was 1/4 Jewish.

  • @seguidaz My mistake - he was a member of the Nazi Party in 1933, but his membership was taken away - maybe because his second wife was 1/4 Jewish?

  • c'est d'un lyrisme, franchement!

  • how in God's name could you dislike this

  • @trojantboneguy

Probably pressed the wrong button or jealous that they don't share his genius. Something like that.

  • @trojantboneguy

the only real thing I could see is wishing they would slow it down at about 6:37 for more dramatic emphasis. Other than that, I concur.

  • Now THAT'S the way it should be player. BRAVO!!

  • Was it true that Krajan was a member of the Nazi party in the 1930s and 1940s?

  • @pookerville Joined it twice. I'm serious. Maybe he was a just a joiner, I don't know. Don't judge his music based on that.

  • Quién fue el idiota que escribió "Biolin"

  • @rockitoh tu madre

  • me enseñarían a tocar esa con biolin

  • @ryabovich I am sorry, my fault. He did conduct it in Vienna, 1987 at the New years concert, but this is not the one. This is the Berlin Philharmonic for sure. Thanks for pointing it out to me. Janos

  • 1:50 best part ever

  • too bad the Austrians hardly ever won a battle, but they sure had the best music!

  • @hungaryhotshot1

    Petrovaradin 1716 · Belgrade 1717 · Kolin 1757 · Hochkirch 1758 · Kunersdorf 1759 · Aspern 1809

    Leipzig 1813

  • @accon2 you sure know your history. thanks for the information. I was thinking more of the big battles against Napoleon, Wagram, Marengo, Austerlitz......

You must agree, though the music is superb. Have you heard the famous Austrian marches, Fucik, Komzak,

Alte Komraden, Florentine March, Schonfelder March .... you name it. Nice meeting you!

  • @hungaryhotshot1 Europe would have become a part of the Osman empire if Austria wouldn't have won battles – even against Napoleon at the end of his carreer. Well, it might not be yesterday's military glory what makes us happy today. It is austria's great musical tradition. Franz von Suppée is just one of so many great names. Your have mentioned some other good examples.

  • @accon2 dear me! Austria couldn't even defeat the Hungarian revolution in 1849 without the help of Russia.

In WWI they couldn't defeat Serbia without the help of Germany. same goes for Italy.

Austria did however liberate Buda from the Turks in 1686, hope I got the date right. Prince Eugene von Savoy, his statue stands there proudly. Music: sorry I forgot Ziehrer. Best regards Janos

  • This piece is ridiculously fun, though at fast tempos, the double tonguing and the end slay me... 1st trumpet part, oh, how we have a love/hate relationship.

  • into the valley of death rode the 600

out of the valley rode the 600

It was the wrong valley; onward...... and fasten yer Cardigans

  • 2:26

  • this kicks my ass on oboe -.-

  • karajan is a master of music

  • @MrDanielaronovich unfortunately he is not anymore. He was, fits better....

  • i get to play this for honor band. fun stuff man...

  • Is this the Berlin Philharmonic?

  • always

  • @borgesvive No, It's the Vienna Philharmonic. This was one of their New Years concert.

  • Karajan is so consistenly great.

  • 2:27 is too fast. Karajan or not, I only know of one conductor who gets the tempo right and that's Major Peter Parkes with Black Dyke Band.

  • @Johnboysings

You don't really want to compare Karajan with Parkes???????

  • Thank Von Suppé!!

  • I wonder in what year this was recorded? Great quality

  • Karajan was like " I could direct this piece in my sleep!"

  • wow he even had the time to adjust his hair!!! he's really relaxed!

  • makes your blood race!

  • hajduk split 1 - rest of the world 0

  • Klasse Muziek

  • The sound is pretty bad on this one. Much better on TheWickedNorth post.

  • 2:28 to 2:57 is my favorite part

  • Dommage que la prise de son soit aussi mauvaise! Cela dessert totalement l'orchestre et l'oeuvre!

  • Outstanding!

  • I have yet to hear one bad piece conducted Karajan. Great stuff.

  • I haven't heard the Dvorak but I think he really blew on Beethovens 5th & 9th symph, but was great on the others like the 7th which is one of my fave versions. He was more a theatrist, if that's a word, there aren't many about now.

  • @FFSINEEDANAME

William Tell - Rossini by Karajan...

  • not even looking at the title, It already sounds like a war with cavalry and wepons. I can really feel that effect throughout the song.

  • @lamamadind just the beginning from it u can feel it like they all lining up :-) remind me of my ancestors. they were all calvary men

  • @lamamadind It's an OPERETTA overture, dude!

  • Is it my imagination or does the song "Nellie the Elephany packed her trunk and said goodbye to the circus" fit the tune at 2.31

  • it's was funny how the conductor's arm and hand was moving, but not the body. at 1:54, the clarinet and bassoon's tonguing was well done, quick, short and on the same beat. the change of the mood, the tonguing and the dynamic was well the done

  • entry at 0:34 was a bit off, but other than that great brass section nice full sound

    beautiful slow section, very expressive

the change into major is done very well, keeping upbeat and happy, switching moods right away

    KLeo

  • the best version of this on youtube, nice and fast i have a old 78 (1914 recording)of this that is pretty speedy, but i think it might be that my phonograph runs fast, , i only wish that volume could go up higher.

  • Karjan is the best forever!

  • Karajan é muito bom, porem com André Rieu essa musica fica FANTÁSTICA

  • Gracias por ponerlo.

  • That wonderful Karajan touch! TY!

  • LA MEJORRRR!!!!!

  • FABULOUS! My eternal thanks for uploading this! Now, could we have MORNING, NOON & NIGHT IN VIENNA and POET & PEASANT?
