@lilstackzful Why? Tornadoes can strike anywhere. Just ask the citizens of Salt Lake City when, in 1999, they became the first major downtown area to be struck by a tornado. It was an F2 and caused 170 million in damage and 100s of injuries. Oddly enough, that is only the 2nd tornado in recorded history to hit the region.

Kind of like what happened in the Tri State Tornado of 1925. People just saw a rolling cloud, and before they knew it they were either severely hurt or much worse.

It's an intense, heavy downdraft. You can see the front squall line & rear flank. (It is a textbook supercell!) The tornado would have to be embedded (rain wrapped) inside the heavy rain shaft, probably close to the front squall line.

No, this was not a tornado. The actual Atlanta tornado was photographed but most people viewing the photos though the rainstorm accompanying it was the tornado; the funnel cloud was actually off to the side.
