@lilstackzful Why? Tornadoes can strike anywhere. Just ask the citizens of Salt Lake City when, in 1999, they became the first major downtown area to be struck by a tornado. It was an F2 and caused 170 million in damage and 100s of injuries. Oddly enough, that is only the 2nd tornado in recorded history to hit the region.
@20Akshay Excuse me, I have the Atlanta Motor Speedway on the phone, and they would like to have a word with you about the damage this tornado did to the track.
@20Akshay Cloud/Rain wrapped tornado. Much scarier than funnels because you don't know what's there until its too late.
Kind of like what happened in the Tri State Tornado of 1925. People just saw a rolling cloud, and before they knew it they were either severely hurt or much worse.
@20Akshay I honestly don't know. I was out of the country on business when this happened. I'm sure some warning was given as to the severity of the storm.
@KC8YOQ Nope, that was part of a tornado outbreak in March of 08. Confirmed 45 tornadoes in and around the city of Atlanta. Phillips Arena was hit by this one during the Hawks game.
@Landrar This was actually a separate storm system from the one you are talking about. The tornado you are talking about happened a few days earlier and was a little later in the day. I'm not sure if this one was a tornado or not.
Had I looked out my window and saw this, ALL bowels would've been lost!! Even though it's not what I consider a tornado tornado! The sight of it would've brought back horrible memories
I was in Atlanta when this happened. I was wondering where the hell it was too but evidently I went into the city a day later and found debris and glass everywhere.
@lukealandrummond It was a Tornado, it damaged the Georgia Dome during a basketball game, the westin, the congress center, CNN center, and parts of the hood. it was clearly a tornado.
It's an intense, heavy downdraft. You can see the front squall line & rear flank. (It is a textbook supercell!) The tornado would have to be embedded (rain wrapped) inside the heavy rain shaft, probably close to the front squall line.
@aa9g1 You're exactly right. The updraft was being undercut at the time thankfully. I remember this day and that supercell had the potential to produce a violent tornado. Luckily it didn't.
Reckon I don't see it. It was either wrapped in rain or not there at all.... I'm no expert but not an amateur either. Been spotting and chasing most of my adult life. Sorry, with the video shown here during these brief seconds, I don't see a "tornado"...

I got hit by a tornado only 2 weeks ago. It was scary but cool, and also very overwhelming. It took down a bunch of massive trees (oaks), busted a bolted down lick off the door, destroyed powerlines, an a lot more.
@AirForceRabbits Quite a few idiots think that just because it doesn't have the traditional shape of a tornado, then it's not a tornado. So the ? is questioning if it really was a tornado. No, this was not a tornado. The actual Atlanta tornado was photographed but most people viewing the photos though the rainstorm accompanying it was the tornado; the funnel cloud was actually off to the side.
