  • This is a historic jam, yes? I recognize Grissman and Vignola. Who are Nolan and Papillo? Other credits or tunes to their names? All work great together.

  • Sounded bluesy, jazzy, breezy -- real.

  • 日本語ではこういうのを、「いい味だしてる」って言います。

    in English..."good taste!!" maybe..

  • lindo! gostaria de ouvir mais!

  • this is fantastic

  • ...superb

  • this is seriously good

  • Allez tous voir sur youtube la vidéo: "La vie Django" !!!

with english subtiles for the noobs !

  • great VIGNOLA!!! the best

  • Frank sounds so good!

  • this is great and to those who think any comparison to django matters get a grip....this is jazz today and tomorrow hopefully!

  • that bass sounds lush

  • Fantastic. Django would be proud.

  • Dawg Music.

  • just wonderful. lovely. thanks for sharing.

  • Excellent... who are they?

  • Very nice! SO enjoyable!

  • I can see this going to a video montage of a summer getaway vacation of two young lovers somewhere in the tropics with that old film look.

  • that's kinda how i play half the time, without even realising it. leaving out my fourth finger!

  • Fabulous, guys. Great sounding video , too.

  • beautiful!!

  • the interesting thing I've about the three fingers thing is that while many things can be done with more fingers that can't be done with three, using only three or even two in some cases can make it easier to smoothly & confidently play fast or complex passages, I think it is because using fewer fingers allows more brain and neuron power to be directed to each finger, thinking about all the fingers reduces the brainpower and neuromuscular effort that can go to each finger & to the music itself

  • Wonderful!

  • Good Gawd Dawg!

  • Muy buena versión muchachos,gracias

  • Great playing and I love the soft black & white.

  • I wanted to see django not those jerks

  • @fendermaxime Lol - I wanted to, too. But I've never heard Grisman referred to as a Jerk before. lmao!

  • @fendermaxime Dick

  • Beautiful.

  • I have to get the CD. These guys are the remedy to popular music.

  • This is so great

Is there a CD of this session

  • Macie jaja!

  • Great "hot-chug" music !

The mandolin-god is great ! ... and so are the rest.

  • Great version ! ... of a great song. Happy Jazz, (no matter what th words say).

  • what is the song at the end

  • Great version.

  • Inspirational playing especially Dave Grismans mandolin!

  • Nice video but I still thing Stochelo Rosenberg is the best guitarist in the world 1

  • Gorgeous!!!

  • Corect mikerudjazz ....My personel opinion is leave Dave out and this song would be okay....it's got no soul that's what happens when most people do Django it turns into a cup of sleepytime tea.....how bout Grisman's ending? He mangled it....not something you see a master do that often.....Mandolyn seems like a good choice for a Django style tune but what do you do with the guitar trills?????

  • Absolutely fantastic...

  • These guys did a fantastic job! Would like to hear more of them .....

  • i love it.who doesn't ....should start to listen country music

  • DEEElightful

  • whats the name of the last song?

  • hmmm awsome, now try with just 2 fingers ;) as django was playing :P

  • So sweet!

  • sounds awesome!

  • I WANTED DJANGO BATES

  • NICE!!!! Atmosphere makes a difference in the way I play and a rainy afternoon in a living room would be just about right! We're talkin serious chops here!!

  • great job!!!

  • September Song is not by Django. It's a standard.

  • "September song" is a song from the Opera of three Pennies, by the composer Kurt Weild.

    It is a beautyfull song.

  • Yeah, have you heard Sarah Vaughan sing it? It's great.

  • @awesomewelles90 People keep making this comment. Of course Weill wrote the song. The original poster probably refers to the gypsy jazz STYLE of Django and does not intend to suggest he wrote the tune.

  • @RailroadBill76 Bullshit.

  • @awesomewelles90 Which part?

  • That's simply beautiful. You guys can sure play.

  • this has nothing to do with the music itself, so don't any of you jazz snobs go and get butthurt, but why do jazz guitarrists always make tnose stupid faces when they're playing? I mean, with rockers (eg Angus Young) its always the cum faces but with jazz it's like a sad eyed please come fondle my balls look. just thought i'd point that out.

  • @nuggbubbler I've never made that analogy. Shows how your mind works and probably reveals repressed homosexuality. Jazz artists in a recording session are not deliberately making any faces. That's concentration and a sincere appreciation for the combined sound.

  • i guess the next time i see someone making a dumb face, i should now recognize that that;s the look of concentraiton and appreciation for a combined sound instead of being annoyed. thanks for the advice.

  • BLOODY GOOD STUFF!!!!!!!!

  • Top draw! I never tire of the music Django played . . as another poster said; therapy for the soul

  • Lovely! Thanks for posting this!

  • Some people have a gene that let's them appreciate music . Some don't. I am utterly convinced that for those with the gene, listening to a lot of django and guys like this, playing like this, is much better therapy than blabbering to some disinterested therapist. Music for the soul, indeed..

  • Great music & a great mix of muscians that jammed out on this classic . Thanks for posting

    Dave -Calgary

  • Not on the album! Bummer. Oh well, it's here, and that album is smokin! Couldn't find it at the websites, had to use amazon. Worth it though. Thank you!

  • written by KURT WEILL

  • Thanks a ton for this posting. It might be a worth it to post the title as a tag so it can be easily searched: September Song

  • Ahh ! That atmosphere, just on the spot, creating..feeling also the joy of making the music, what I also hear in the recordings of Django. Never mind the fingers, playing this music made me find out also it's useful to use only two, most of the times.

Hope this kind of creating music will never die.

  • Imatation IS the greatest compliment,,, don't you agree?

  • That is how my soul flows...or at least while the melodies were moving here...well done

  • Amazing recording... especially for totally on the fly like that. I love this whole album. And I adore Greg Ruby's Favino that Robin Nolan is playing...

  • I don't know what instruments the original arrangement was for but this particular grouping works wonders for this tune. It seems as if Kurt Weill had writtent it especially for Django, or at least for a Gypsy jazz band. Remarkable! A real treat!

  • Django may not be there, but his influence certainly is! Very nice indeed!

  • Absolutely freegan great............

  • except you need to play with only 2 fingers man

  • Yeah, Ok, Nice music,

But why are these 'CLOWNS' using Django's name' 'WHEN THEY KNOW FULL WELL' IT IS NOT THR EAL DJANGO IN (HIS) RECORDING STUDIO!

  • so we'd watch...duh....great playing though....i like vignola and grissman

  • Hermoso canto de violas... Great Django!

  • Good catch Jinbston I hate it when people think it's OK to ignore a composer because of a particular musicians incredible virtuosity with a song. It's that type of history rewriting that's dumbing down our culture. While we are at it Maxwell ANderson wrote the lyrics.

  • corny ending...QHCF never would have ended it that way. But Grisman keeps it in the tradition.

  • They're playing in the gypsy style, though.

  • september song is not by django, is by kurt weill

  • why the third guitarist don't use the other two fingers? he has got it!

  • He suffers "Django Reinhardt Syndrome" :P

  • @ilcongia because DJango did not have them. ??

  • @ilcongia Django only had use of two of his fret fingers . .. guess he's keeping it "authentic"

  • @ilcongia I don't play guitar but have heard that some of the arpeggios done with all fingers take away from a django sound.

  • @ilcongia He could be playing with his toes, who cares its just brill.

  • @ilcongia Django only had two fingers on his playing hand. This guy must be paying tribute by only using two.

  • @ilcongia

    He can't use em

  • This is fantastic!

  • David Grisman: *The Man*!

  • Solo a 0:52 huge!!

  • September Song was composed by Kurt Weill. Unless these musicians are imitating a specific cover by Django Reinhrardt then the title here is wrong.

  • now try paralyzing two of your fingers and not using a pick

  • django used picks

  • @grotonhomie - " and not using a pick " ? ! ? -what are you talking about ??

  • This is truly remarkable.

  • The album was called 'The Living Room Sessions'. It has some fantastic playing on it...and some great classics such as 'Black Orpheus'

  • So beautiful.. thank you so much.

  • TOKAN CHIDO FELICIDADES....

  • The groove at the end of the second guitar solo was the real group...Bravo!

  • sound good. uh, loosen up a bit when playin though. try smilin more

  • es la hostia, tiene una sutileza y a la vez una fuerza, ooh si nena!

  • Does anyone know the name of the album they did?

  • Comment removed

  • genial,graaacias.

  • That's a bit special.

  • god damn ther all so fucking good

  • Hey, mikerud jazz, what do you mean by 'jesus' you arrogant knowit all. Just be thankful the guy posted the track, you musical snob.

  • David Grissman??? C'mon, if you're going to post a video of a master, at least spell his name correctly.

  • you swingers are serious as hell huh

  • Comment removed

  • @mikerudjazz : The Kurt Weill song is being PLAYED in the Django jazz style, jacknut. Get a grip.

  • @mikerudjazz As opposed to all the Reinhardt songs that Weill covered.. lmao.

  • ????????

  • Absolutely out of this world!!

  • beautiful. congratulations!!

  • Thanks! VERY-VERY tastefully!

It`s not "music for music" if you understand me :)

very musically. It`s so rare now...

  • Lotsa notes, guys.....what about the C minor chord the first two beats of the 6th measure (and each time that phrase happens)?

  • this approach will get u no where

  • Thanks for the intelligent comment.

  • very nice acoustic sound....

  • very, very nice. wonderful recording quality too!!!!

  • I honor the work Django and the entire Quintet of the Hot Club of France as well as 98 % of what the Dawg does too. This is great!

  • So sophisticated and so easy to listen...Wonderful!

  • This is what You Tube's all about! Wonderful!

  • the only mandolin player that I like is David Grisman

  • what a great find on YouTube... thank you so much.

  • love it!

  • Get it straight folks: it's David Grisman. Check out the David Grisman Quintet DGQ. My favorite is Dawganova.

  • muy bonito, bello escucharlos, from Argentina Congratulations!!

You can never have enough Django!

  • David Grissman rocks! The Dawg doin Reinhardt! Fantastic! Thanks for the post.

  • Wow -- wish I could have been the lucky person who is sitting on the sofa watching and listening to this as it was recorded!

Yet another interesting version of "September Song" to add to my (ever-expanding) collection.

  • i tingle all over! fantastic! ah!

  • but djangos september song is my favorite. i loved it from harry james first than i rereasoneded it

  • Enchanting, and inviting...absolutley overwhelming my senses at this time, Kudoz, Love it Luna

  • Very well done. Stellar.

  • Magnifique !!!!

  • is there no colour cameras available then?

  • the tone out of all those instruments is stellar. the giacomel mandolin is unreal.

  • September Song is NOT by Django — it's a Kurt Weill tune.

  • September Song is NOT by Django — it's a Kurt Weill tune.
