Hate to say it/point out the obvious but in think Dizzy got majorly shown up by Arturo in the Start of this video :P

Arturo just plays really high, load and fast - to the point where it just sounds like noise, and not melody, which is dizzy's style.

Check out 1:00. I mean, that ending by Arturo is just awful.

I did Arturo's playing, just Dizzy's is so much better. And the other trumpet player on this gig is so tasteful! check him out later!

I disagree. Arturo has shown many musical lines despite playing very high and fast. he is always able to develope ideas and keep the listeners interested.

compared to dizzy though he is just totally out-blown in reference to his developed ideas and lines. Dizzy is so much more down with the music. Arturo's just a machine - a virtuosic one, but still just a high fast note blowing player.

a little bit late on this.... lol. I'm actually playing in the south Louisiana area. Never met Danilo Perez, but my experience with Sandoval wasn't so great. That's cool that you got to see his good side though!

if you met the guy you'd understand. If you're not Hispanic or African American, he thinks that you shouldn't play any sort of jazz. I should know, I had a gig with him in a latin group, Caliente, and I was 1 of 3 white guys. When rehearsal didn't go exactly perfect, he flipped out. In general the guy is a real jerk on and off stage.

For example, there is bad blood between him, Jon Faddis, and some other trumpet players (can't think off the top of my head) because each player was given a specific amount of solo time to end the concert, and Sandoval just disregarded that and soloed the whole time. Ask anybody in the music program at Florida International (that's where he "teaches") that has crossed paths with him if you don't believe me.
